Our normal babysitter is I think 26. She's a teacher at daycare and like kim22 I trust her more than anyone. But I thought 2 late nights of babysitting without actually seeing the kids kids was not worth her time. Especially considering she would have to wake up and work a full day tmrw. 13yo asked if n could play games on her phone. I said no. When I left they were playing a game together on her phone 😐 whatever. At least she got her to sleep. I have never found a decent teen babysitter. I feel like a good one is a magical find, like a unicorn.

So there's that.

I started babysitting at 11. Looking back I probably wouldn't hire myself. I think we've been spoiled with our Normal sitter so it's an adjustment!

I'm fortunate that we have so much family local, I've never had to pay for a sitter but we go out frequently. I'm sorry for those that don't have that option .

My parents are local... but difficult. They are watching the kids Saturday but heaven forbid I ask too much of them in 1 week. I mean.. they moved here to be close to us but apparently that doesn't mean babysit. They don't want to come to our house because it interferes with their social life. So sometimes it's just easier to hire a babysitter than take the kids to their house

My oldest niece will be 12 in July, almost old enough for me to trust her to be home alone with my children.

It was always easier to pay for care.

Off topic but I need to vent about it because I'm sure many of you can commiserate. All day long it's such a bitch reminding my kid and herding him to the potty. Then, magically at bedtime he is suddenly so enthusiastic about it and peeing on the potty, one tablespoon at a time, every ten minutes. Sounds freakishly familiar, LOL. My family is "local," but the closest ones are about a 30min drive away. So I always feel like when I ask someone to watch our kids, I have to take my kids to them (since they are doing it at no-cost). So that is a major inconvenience. Yes, sometimes it is just easier to pay someone and get exactly what you what. Although I haven't done that since I had one kid.

My mom watches my boys 2 days a week and she'll watch them on the weekends for us but she always calls me (usually just as we're eating dinner) to ask when we'll be home. If you don't want to watch them, just tell me no. I'd rather not go or find someone else than feel like I'm annoying you with my kids. So we rarely ask her to watch them on the weekends. I had her watch Jack one night while I took peach to a movie and she called as it was starting to ask when I'd be home. WTF. It's a movie! It takes a little while.
I baby sat when I was 11 for my neighbors. A 3 year old girl and 10 month old boy. I made them dinner, made his bottles, gave them baths and put them to bed and slept on their couch until they got home. They were always out late so they'd take me home about 3am. I always clean their house and did a great job that her sister hired me. But I was very mature. A's sister is 14 and I wouldn't trust her to watch my fish.. I know a 14 year old I would let watch them if I was like running errands or something for a few hours. But no meals or bed time. I don't think she could do that. I need to find a high schooler I trust.

Luckily I have two nieces that are prime babysitting age right now, 12 and 14. And when they are past it, I have another coming up in the ranks. I'm glad I'm the last of my sisters to have kids.... I get the luxury of their teenagers!

Over here most girls (that aren't related) start babysitting around the age of 15-16. I would never feel comfortable with a 12yo watching the kids. Then again, I'm a very anxious person 🙄🙄🙄.

nam2013 I probably wouldn't be comfortable with a 12yo that wasn't related to us either. I started babysitting with an infant when I was 10, but I would never feel comfortable with doing that myself now. If I had an infant right now, I would probably be ok with my 14yo niece watching her, but not the 12yo.

I started babysitting when in as 11. And I babysat a lot, infants up to kids only a few years younger then me. I had no clue what I was doing, I'm baffled that parents trusted me!

nam2013 I'm with mskatiep . I wouldn't feel comfortable unless they were related to me. This is the only part I hate about being the first sibling to have kids. Like there's 7 years between my brother and I. He should of thought of this and had children early. Jerk. His stupid "5 year plan"

I was just thinking, man my kids must be more difficult than all y'alls. I can't imagine a 14 year old handling bed time for my crazy 3 yo. I have only ever had adult babysitters (one high school girl who was a good friend's daughter and that was when I only had 1 kid). I, too, babysat when I was 12 or 13. I can't understand how those parents trusted me! Maybe I'm the issue... Maybe I should just let it go, and find a nice teenager to watch my kids so I can go out again sometime soon... hmmmm....

Okay I guess. We're still trying to figure out how to feed him. But nothing to worry about except that he's eating tons, and I'm sure that's better than not eating much at all. Basically, I have to call the vet again and figure out what we're doing. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

cagoldi, how is his water intake? I would watch for it to increase or decrease significantly.
