I’m meeting my work BFF this morning to yak and go to lunch. DD1 is coming too because she adores “Miss L”. DD2 slept great last night and cuddled a long time this morning and it was heavenly. Only DD1s hollowing for “Mom!” got us out of bed. DD1 has never gotten out of her “big kid bed” (a mattress on the floor) on her own in the 1+ year she’s been in it. Not sure if to want to “open up” that whole new world of getting out of bed independently to her or not...

I have the unlucky pleasure of being awake at 6:30 after a poop night. The last few nights have been shit but E has been sleeping in so its not been as rough. Not today... not today.
Its still really hot so I think I'm going to work on unpacking a few boxes today. Maybe. Maybe I'll just work on my couch game.

I need some not O17 related advice. I do not have a green thumb. However, I got two hydrangeas from our graduation ceremony that I've been babying for a couple of months. I've put them in the ground, but haven't put anything around them. The weeds are starting to take over, so I need to figure out a simple way to dress them up into a mini flower garden (I plan to expand it gradually when I prove to myself I can keep it up). What's the easiest option? Just add a little mulch around them? cythe and anyone else that might have ideas? Super random question, I know.

You'll definitely want some mulch, I think the ones I just planted recommended 3" (I don't think I've ever put 3" on anything but make it a good layer). What kind of light does your hydrangea get? Full sun, part sun? Oh and what hardiness zone are you in?

I'm not sure what a hardiness zone is But our yard is *extremely* sandy if that answers anything. We seriously have the worst yard. I put miracle grow in the holes when I put the plants in the ground.

Happy day today - of course I and everyone else in this country are absolutely thrilled they found the boys. Now we are all praying for no rain for them to safely get out.
Aside from that, LO also broke his constipation streak, so that’s another win. He hadn’t gone since Saturday, and he was a total grumpy yesterday. All the pears and prune juice worked 😁
Tomorrow is the 4th of July, which is just a regular day here. I’m taking off though, and we’re going to celebrate by eating some American BBQ. I might paint my toenails red white and blue too - just for kicks.

Sneaking back in here... I've been staying busy, trying to have an awesome summer before my daughter starts Kindergarten (😲😭😭). DS2 is not sleeping, so that's a major struggle. DS1 is finally almost potty trained. Nothing too exciting 🤷

Hardiness zones help determine what plants will grow in your climate. I totally feel you on the sandy soil, we also have terribly sandy soil! I always add some garden soil/compost/manure when I'm planting because yeah, sand is really hard to grow in. There are like 0 nutrients in sand

My lifelong goal is to have beautiful landscaping around my house. And, it will probably take my entire life to accomplish

It's my birthday. Baby really wanted to celebrate with me as he got up every hour or so last night. I need to get everything ready today for heading to the beach house with my in-laws. My car hasn't been starting, but DH charged the battery last night, so here is hoping that was it so i can get prenatal vitamins before we go.

thatgirlrachel last thing about plants and I'll let you be haha. As far as if you want to plant other things beside your hydrangea, I like to stick to lower to the ground things since your hydrangeas will get fairly big (some species 6-8 ft tall). If you have a fair bit of shade or easy sun (aka not noon - 4pm sun) I like hostas with hydrangeas. Whatever you plant, be sure to give your new shrubs a good amount of space so they don't become overcrowded next year when they really start to grow

Landscaping is something I think is sooo pretty, I've just never had the hand (or time or money) for it. Goals, though!

Taitai I’ve read reports that it could be months before they get the boys out. Is that correct? Those poor kids. I’m so happy they were located and are getting food now.

thatgirlrachel I love hydrangeas, so pretty! Mulch for sure, maybe periodically fertilize since your soil isn’t great? Definitely leave them lots of room to spread. Do you still have the tag? Which variety of hydrangea? I recently added a “little lime” which is smaller in size and had green flowers that turn pink-ish, I love it

Unpacking and laundry on deck over here. Just putting DS down for his nap first. He did better than expected yesterday after a long driving day (he doesn’t nap or eat well on long days in the car) and a late bedtime. He was up one more time than usual and was actually convinced to go back to bed until 7:20 (usually is up at 6:30) at which time Dd accidentally woke him (she is used to him being awake so she was definitely not quiet)

danvers My DD will wake up and ask “can I get up?” every morning and after every nap/quiet time. It is seriously the best. We didn’t actually specifically teach her to do that, she just started calling from her toddler bed (crib with side rail off) like she did in her crib and we stuck with it. It’s been over 2 years since we transitioned her to a toddler bed, and almost a year since she moved to a twin 👍

My children are doing their very best to thwart my efforts to be productive today. DD has toys on all surfaces and decided to do a craft involving snipping a zillion tiny pieces of paper. She “cleaned up” pre nap but I’m still going to have to vacuum, there is pink paper bits everywhere. I turned my back while unloading the dishwasher for long enough to put a mug away and I turned back and DS was in the dishwasher 🙄 Like both knees up crawled all the way onto the door 😳

LO is definitely working on new skills and his sleep is suffering. He's so close to crawling and getting more curious and coordinated every day. It is so funny to watch him maneuver across a room without actually crawling. Fx he'll sleep a bit better tonight, he's exhausted.

CoachTsWife DD1 is very much a rule follower. If you tell her x, then x forever it shall be. We’ve already said it will be DD2 flipping us the bird at 13. doodlemommy DD2s favorite thing to dash for in the walker is the dishwasher. Whoa to the individual who turns a back for even a second. At least I can hear the walker coming, a crawler and a climber will keep you on your toes! thatgirlrachel I have no green thumb but I like to pretend I could have a flower garden. My husband gifted me landscaping one year and told the guy “perennials only” because he knows me better bi guess 🤷♀️

We’re doing fireworks tonight with H’s family. I hate fireworks. I’m a kill-joy. I know. It goes with my anxiety and I’ve probably watched way too many news shows about injuries and whatnot. I need to chill. I feel like I’m getting better until something like tonight where the kids were playing with those poppers that you throw to pop them. My niece was throwing them AT DD1 and DD2. I moved my kids to another area of the driveway and told her No while watching my SIL stare at us saying nothing. You better believe when DD1 threw it in the vicinity of someone I took what she had and she was done.
All this to say, I would much prefer to go to some small town show at the park where someone else handle all this far away from my children.

Your SIL sounds awful.
