No projects for me this month. We are moving in Aug and I've already packed up most of my sewing room. Thread rack and fabric shelves look sad when they are empty.

Got back on my sewing machine on Saturday and made a couple of vinyl/fabric key fobs for gifts, it felt good to do so sewing after a while so I might try and do some more this week.

I'm also struggling with motivation, or maybe it's not being able to decide where to start with so many projects I want to do. I did make a belt and tie for LO (well, belt is 95‰ done anyway). I have been working on some house projects too. I put up some belt books the other day, and today I am finally getting around to making the laundry basket rack I have had designed for months.

I made simple felt fishing set for the girls. That's been on my to-do list. No sew and I used paperclips so super easy. It can also be taken outside so bonus!

I have a big stack of flour sack towels to dye. I’ve got a few folded and ready, but need to get the rest done and pick a few colors. Right now I’m thinking yellow, dark blue, and turquoise, single colors and combinations of those...maybe charcoal too.

I switched it up and made DS a portable lego table to use in the car or at home. We managed a 4hrs road trip today without the portable dvd player!

We moved last month so I’ve been super busy unpacking but I’m finally getting my new yarn/craft room put together! And I’m crocheting again. I’m going to make my own wall art for the yarn room with crochet mandalas. I finished my first today. Here it is about to be blocked

I've been making cloth pads and experimenting with different materials for the top and for absorption now that I have a pattern drafted that works well for me. And I got KAM snap pliers, which are awesome, now I want to put snaps on everything lol! I might order some more materials and attempt some cloth diapers when it gets closer to the end of the summer.

The first throw blanket I'm giving as a Christmas gift is off the needles. I need to weave in the ends, but instead, I've started planning out a baby blanket for a friend's (crossing fingers) rainbow baby. I also need to get back to my basket of mending.

What did you use for the pads? I keep saying I'm going to do this because I use so many disposable ones. I've used both microfiber and birdseye cotton for soakers, pillaged from diaper inserts and prefolds I wasn't planning on using and I don't think I have a preference at this point. I have heard of people just using layers of flannel, old t shirts, or cotton terry as well, or there are sites where you can order materials like bamboo terry or microfiber. For the top layer, I've tried flannel and minky (I think I prefer the minky, but I haven't used them for actual bleeding, just pregnancy pee-cough protection), and I use PUL for the backing (some people use fleece, which repels moisture pretty well). I looked at like 10 different tutorial blogs before just experimenting. There are a bunch of different methods and styles and shapes, I found I like a pad with the soaker on the inside. Basically I traced the crotch of my underwear to use as a soaker, and then cut that shape out of several layers of absorbent material and zigzagged the edges together. Then, I traced around that piece to create wings that would be wide enough to overlap in the middle for snaps and cut that out of PUL and the topper material. I sewed the soaker onto the wrong side of the topper (so it will end up inside) by sewing like half an inch from the edge of the soaker and then sewed the middle another half inch inside or so to make contour lines like regular pads have, I guess to direct the moisture toward the middle. Then I sewed the PUL and the topper right sides together and left a hole for turning. Then you just turn and top stitch around the edge of the soaker and all the way around the pad and then apply snaps (I tried velcro first, but it was scratchy). Now that I have a shape I like, I made cardboard pattern pieces to trace. I'll take some pics tonight of the steps if you want!

Dramaphile Thanks! I think I can figure it out from your description, especially since I've looked at a lot of tutorials, as well. If I get stuck, I might come back, though

I have a ton of PUL from when I was making diapers. If you are interested I would love to destash some of it for cheap, just to get it out of the way. I was going to make some reusable sandwich bags with them but I just haven’t made myself sit down and do it yet. And diapers are actually not too bad to do. Once I had my pattern figured out I had H cut it out on a sheet of plexiglass. And drilled holes where my elastic started and stopped and also where my snaps went. I poked my snap holes using the template and a piece of floral foam stuff from Joann’s as a backing. I marked for elastic using the template so that it was consistent. Also, you might look into a kam snaps press. It’s amazing. When I did diapers I actually really liked using an athletic jersey material instead of the minky or micro fleece. It was easier to work with, looked nicer, and stained less. It also gave a nice trim fit to the diaper. I thought about using it to make some cloth liners.

I'll have to check out that athletic jersey, it sounds like a good option! I actually have a press I use for metal snaps, but wasn't sure if I wanted to drop the $30 to get the kam snap dies, so I got an inexpensive pair of pliers instead. If I really get into diaper/pad making I'll probably order the dies to make it easier. I'll message you about the PUL, I might be interested.

I actually made something finally! I have been fighting with my serger for 2 weeks now but was determined to figure out how to operate it. I finally figured out the threading and got the tensions right and made a shirt. It was supposed to be for R but it fits C better. Guess I need to print off the next size pattern for R...

I'm embarking on making a quilt for my parents' 50th wedding anniversary. I got a Kaffe Fassett Chrysanthemum print and a bunch of fabrics with gold. Probably going to keep it extremely simple pattern wise since I have just a few nights this week to work on it.

Still need to finish the crotch snaps and I think I’ve decided to do cuffs instead of hemming the legs and arms. This is a gift for a baby shower for a Harry Potter loving mom. All fabric bought at Joann’s. The HP fabric was on sale for like $8 a yard or something crazy last week.

I would suggest trying the grand slam if sewing for a kid or the Rainer raglan if you want to make something for you. She makes her patterns so easy to make nice looking clothes! The biggest thing is just being patient and not trying to rush yourself.

I really fell off my knitting, which used to be a major passion of mine. I figure rainbow baby needs a rainbow blanket, so I've started back up with a really mindless pattern. It's very soothing and I'm glad to be back.

Felt Potato heads are completed thanks to my Cricut. I need to start another quilt. N picked out some Lilo and stitch fabric to make a skirt. Maybe I will make the first.
