Sorry about all the bug talk!!! I promise not to do it again. 😘 Baby was 11lbs 13oz at our weight check today. Her gain was better than at our previous check, but I’m pretty sure she fell off the chart. I didn’t even ask. She is such a happy and content baby, I don’t want to wake her up any more to force feed her. The nurse today suggested I offer to nurse her multiple times when she’s awake. I just... I mean I can but it just doesn’t feel right. And I’m pretty sure she’ll just spit up more. But whatever. Have they mentioned any the about the spitting in relation to her weight? DD was always spitty, and they didn't want to medicate unless she wasn't gaining weight well or started to refuse food. I'm not sure if those are typical rules of thumb , or if it is because she's a preemie.

I am attempting to put the baby to bed without the swaddle. We have done arms out for the past few nights. It has taken him forever to fall asleep but he has been staying asleep. It’s just so warm in his room that I the swaddle seems like too much. Really with his arms out isn’t much different than no swaddle. The biggest issue I foresee is him staying asleep. His swaddle is usually his bedtime cue. I’m hoping I developed enough of a routine that he won’t need it.

TTMA solids... for some reason my brain cannot remember how the progression went with DD1. we just started oatmeal a few nights ago with dd2. How often am i supposed to be offering her solids right now? And am I supposed to be offering her water in a sippy now too with her meal? I feel like such a newb right now.

No answer on the sippy, I waited until like 8mo for that with G. I started purées at 4mo. I did a half of a container of gerber 1st foods at lunch time. I do 2 days of the same thing to check for allergies. For example the first food he had was I believe squash. We did a half a container per day for 4 days. After those 4 days I switched to a fruit. I did pears first. I did 4 days of pears. After I went through all the varieties they had, and saw no reactions and he liked it, I moved on to a whole container and I alternate between fruits and veggies. I am still only doing once a day but that’s because I keep forgetting to add in another meal.

aprilz81 I agree with everyone that I would not plan for baby to sttn for a while. Honestly my perspective is that I'm away at work all day, I'll happily wake up to care for their needs at night to ensure a good bond. I miss my sleep something crazy but this time in our lives will end sooner than we're ready for it to!

Food... With DD1 I started her with mashed banana. Every 3 days we tried a new something. Her belly didn't like it though and she had bad constipation. So with O I am gonna wait and EBF to 6 months before adding solids unless my Dr gives me different advice at our check up next week.

It's like Olivia literally is reading what I'm writing here.
Today at daycare she took both naps on her belly by rolling there. She slept more today than she has all week during the day. I decided to try the crib again tonight and she wants to roll to her belly to sleep.
I'm really nervous about letting her do that at 4 mo. I don't think dd1 did before about 5mo. But she can roll both ways and can lift her chest high off the ground in tummy time so I know she's plenty strong.
Anyone's LOs already on #teambellysleep?

amesieWe started cereal at 4 mo, purees ay 5.5 mo. We are introducing most 1st step veggies first. 1 veggie for 3 days then move on and repeat. Daycare did give him mashed bananas today. After we get through veggies we will do the same for the fruit. We offer cereal if he doesn't seem into the puree of the day. I'll introduce water in sippy when he begins to hold his bottle more consistently. But I believe 6 months is when you can introduce water with meals.

I can't believe I forgot to update...
He slept on his back in his crib last night!!!! He was up 3 times but it's a step to getting rid of the rnp. My goal is to be out of it for good before his 6 month check up (next week)

sunfrogger Henry is pretty much a belly only sleeper now. He almost immediately rolls to his belly. Our pediatrician tells us as long as they can roll both ways it’s ok as long as you start them on their back.

sunfrogger we are team belly. She's very comfy like that! Our ped says if they can get there, leave them be to sleep. (I'm not a doc, clearly) Any one else going the baby led weaning route, speaking of foods? V is getting very good at sitting up by herself so I think we will start in a couple weeks maybe (or sooner). We'll prob start with steamed carrot sticks. I did let her lick a bit of avocado off my finger today, she seemed to enjoy that taste!

We do homemade purees that are chunkier and oatmeal at first then end up pretty much eating what we do. We will start closer to 6 months since he’s really not sitting yet. As far as soppy cups go we started with DDS1 at 6 months and that’s when we gave water.

Did you give her regular applesauce or pureed apples? I gave her applesauce, not strained baby apples. I think it might be too tart for her. The only food we have given J is unsweetened applesauce. He loved it. I may try baby cereal this weekend.

We had a few nights of rough sleep after Faith learned to roll back to belly, but now she seems to sleep a little better on her belly. I've always read/been told that if they can roll themselves over belly sleeping is fine as long as they are in a suitable sleep space.

Regarding water... I thought they weren't supposed to have water until a year old? Did I make that up?

sunfrogger DD1 was rolling to her belly by 3.5 months and the pedi said there was no reason to constantly flip her. I think we barricaded her in an arms reach co sleeper to keep her from rolling for a bit, but definitely by 4 months she was sleeping on her belly full time.

sparky85 they’re all sure that the spit contributes to her slow weight gain, but she’s content and medicine won’t keep the milk in, just reduce pain if she was crabby. I feel like her spit up has slowed down a little bit so I was hoping she’d take off in the weight gain, but it’s not happening.

Regarding water... I thought they weren't supposed to have water until a year old? Did I make that up? I don’t think we did water with DD1 until after a year. I think the reasoning is that it will fill up their bellies and has no nutritional value. I guess if they are eating a lot it can’t hurt. DD2 doesn’t sleep well if she doesn’t have a certain amount of formula each day so I will probably just stick with formula so I can get longer stretches at night.

aprilz81 I’m super unrealistic about baby sleep. I’m just chiming in to say I understand feeling like there has to be another way. I get exasperated when we have multiple bad nights. Here and there, ok, I know it’s going to happen but I’m still going to complain about it. I’m happy with her eating at 9 pm and 5 AM or after right now. She does not go back to sleep after she wakes. Her naps are crappy and we don’t have a schedule yet.

ajetter I’ve mentioned this many times but my DS1 bounced between 0-5%. I did not wake him at night and he always slept through. I did nurse often during the day. When you start foods go heavy on avocado. I added olive oil and coconut oil to all his food. DD is 5%. Just saying you aren’t alone.

It was a huge success but now that we are approaching food I’m nervous about it all over again. I need to find my book.

Ok so I’m doing it right by only 1 meal a day for now? When should i up the intake to 2-3 meals? I know it’s just for practice right now and not necessarily for nutritional value so I’m not super worried about it. I just don’t want to be slacking ha

By this point G had almost 4 teeth so I was able to start it with her at 6mo. Little dudes first two teeth are still working on popping through.

Regarding water... I thought they weren't supposed to have water until a year old? Did I make that up? When getting G to practice with her sippy I would sometimes give her formula in it and sometimes I would give her water. I was giving a very little bit of it like maybe an oz or 2 and she wouldn’t drink it all. It was for practice.

I just don’t want to be slacking ha I would ask your pedi what he/she thinks but I would wait until at least 6mo or when she can sit on her own. I think if my little man didn’t have his helmet, he would sit unsupported for awhile. He can do it for a little bit now.

rebeccabunch thanks. Yes, I’m hoping when I start solids, if we feed her lots of avocado that she’ll gain a little better. The nurse said she likely needs about 40-60 additional calories a day to hit our goal of gaining half an ounce a day. In theory a bit of avocado should do that right? I hope.

ajetter I just want you to know you’re not alone with the weight gain. Ds2 is only 12 lbs 12 ounces so just at the 10%ile. I often question if I’m providing enough. H and our pediatrician constantly remind me that he’s happy, smiley and that as king as he’s not losing weight that’s what matters. Some babies really grow at different rates and being im so petite they think DS2 is following that trend. Oh and our pediatrician also says spit up typically peaks around 4 months or so and slows around 6 months.
