Anyone else?
What are you guys doing?
I have a goal weight in mind and I'm hoping not to go over what I gained with DD. I'm not going to worry about weight until after LO gets here safely but if anyone wants to come and complain about eating habits with me then come on in.
I'll start.
During the day and don't eat much because I feel like crap but then I'm starving at night so I start eating...and it actually makes me feel better while I'm eating...the nausea subsides...but then I feel even sicker after. I'm not eating any junk but today I had rice, soup, toast, and rice cakes. Like 3 dinners.

Lol that sounds like the perfect (triple) dinner for nausea!
If this cycle was a bust, we planned to take off 2-3 cycles for me to lose weight (I'm right at the cusp of overweight, due to years of IF treatments, and DH also has weight to lose after back surgery). We thought summer would be a great time to kickstart better eating and exercise habits. Of course, this is better, but it's frustrating to start out already feeling very "fluffy"...I'm really hoping to have the minimum healthy weight gain, but no idea if I'll be able to keep control.
Just focusing on filling up with veggies, protein, fiber. Get enough calcium, iron, healthy fats. I also feel best with something in my tummy so it is tempting just keep grazing all day...

sunshiney I was part of a health and fitness during pregnancy study while pregnant with DD. They stressed dairy and I had to eat as much dairy as my tummy could tolerate daily (they paid for it). Luckily milk and cheese were 2 things I was able to stomach all the way through. Study shows it helps with maintaining a healthy weight during pregnancy. They also pushed humus as the fiber type also helped with maintaining a good weight. That and they had me walk 10,000 steps a day. Not sure I'll be able to hit the daily step count this time around but I'm going to do my best.

LOL I literally just posted about this in Randoms. As I was shoveling R's veggie straws into my mouth.
I gained close to 60lbs with R. (Maybe more? IDEK. I stopped getting on the scale at the end because it just made me sad.) I just ate everything. And he's almost 3 and I JUST got rid of it all. (But I was overweight when I got pg with him, so I was working on that.) With that pregnancy, the only exercise I did was prenatal yoga, which I loved, but it did nothing to balance out my excessive calorie intake. This time around I was going to Orangetheory 5x/week when I got my BFP. I bumped it down to 4x/week and I'm taking it a little easier than I have been (let all my coaches know I'm pregnant because one of them asked me if I was ok when she saw my speed on the tradmill), but I'm hoping to work out as long as I can. I want to stay in shape and just feel better about myself.
I don't know how I'm going to keep my eating under control. All I crave is carbs. It's the worst.

sammysam Thank you, that's really encouraging. I could eat cheese and yogurt all day (but I drink soy milk) so this is reassuring. I also can't do much but walk because of my ankle injury, but I've already decided to walk my way fit (the dog's in on it too!) and have been using MapMyWalk. Really hopeful it will make a difference!

stayingblonde you're in good company here. I haven't been able to work out at all this year because my iron and hemoglobin were both so low for such a long time...so I gained 20 lbs this year. Yay. I'm going to do as much walking as I can but I'm also getting old so I want t make sure baby's safe first. All I want are carbs too. My celiac is the one thing that save me because I can't eat 99% of what I crave. Of course then I just eat EVERYTHING ELSE trying to get rid if the cravings!

sunshiney walking is the only exercise I plan on doing. And I'm trying not to have any junk food. But at the moment chocolate milk is my go to everything so it's the one junkie thing I allow myself:)

I'm here.
I'm starting off this pregnancy from a much better spot than last time, health wise. I've lost all the baby weight from DD plus a few extra pounds. I'm in a routine where I do yoga 4-5 times a week and I'm cooking healthy meals each day. I really don't want to lose all these good habits, but it will be hard.
Last time, I felt super sick from 6-12 weeks, and all I could do to keep the nausea at bay was constantly snack on carbs. I couldn't stomach most healthy foods. Then, I turned into a bottomless pit and ate everything in sight. I also had terrible insomnia, so I was feeling exhausted and not strong. I expect to deal with the same challenges this time.
My goal for first trimester is to maintain some physical activity, find some healthier carb-y snacks, and just get through.

Does anyone have suggestions for healthier carb-based foods? These are mine:
I've been making a lot of multigrain pancakes for breakfast, and sometimes heating up one as an after-work snack while I'm preparing dinner to keep the nausea away.
I bought these pea snacks (Harvest Snaps. I think?). They claim to be low fat and have protein. I'm not convinced they're healthy, but they're definitely tasty.

notagoddess Those pea snacks are brilliant! I love them. I'm terrible with snacks because I can't eat the things I'm craving. I end up eating a lot of toast...mostly because GF bread tastes kind of gross at the best of times and it's one of the only carby things that sort of helps with my cravings. The only thing I've really been able to snack on in the past has been fruit. I imagine it'll be the same this go round. And really only peaches. Oh and rice cakes. But I'm following this for suggestions!

First trimester is typically all about potatoes for me! It's the carb my body seems to like. I try and do sweet potatoes either baked or roasted. Good Thins also makes sweet potato crackers that are decently healthy. Also Vans GF waffles are good.

I have an internal stricture due to Crohn's, so I haven't been able to digest things like raw veggies, nuts, seeds, fibrous fruit and cooked veggies, for years. It's quite limiting and unhealthy. Well, the last few months I've been doing better and able to add in some cooked broccoli, asparagus, cauliflower, peeled apples, slivered almonds, etc. And the last few weeks I've been in great remission, to the point that ice eaten small amounts of raw spinach, chickpeas, basically everything but a big crunchy salad. It's really lucky because pregnancy tends to make a flare even worse or remission even better. I'm so thankful and excited to eat a variety of foods textures and flavors that I haven't been able eat in some cases since 2012, it's been a real motivator to eat healthier now that I know we're expecting. I'm just feeling so grateful that I'm able so far to give the developing baby far more of what they ideally should get and hope it lasts!

So I went into my pregnancy with DD in the best shape of my life. I had a healthy pregnancy and did Crossfit 4-5 days/wk throughout the whole thing. Fast forward 3 years and I’m the least fit I’ve been pretty much ever and find it hard to even exercise 2x/wk. I’m nervous about how this pregnancy will change my body and trying hard to shift my mindset. I’m hoping after the 1st Tri exhaustion passes I can get back into a good swing of fitness and really focus on core stabilization and pelvic floor health.

stayingblonde , ooh can I have the recipe? I've never made overnight oats but that sounds so good. 2/3 cup rolled oats 1 scoop vanilla protein powder 1 cup almond milk 4 tsp chia seeds 2 tsp honey 1 tbsp peanut butter 1 banana Mix everything together and refrigerate. This makes 2 servings. I usually double it and put it in 4 small mason jars so I have 4 breakfasts ready to go. I don't like cold oatmeal so I warm it up, but you can definitely eat it cold. Super yummy and very filling.

I have a question. Is it true that you can't really do more exercise than you did before getting pregnant? Like that it would be too much on your body? I want to do more weight training (light basic stuff) and possibly replace some flab with muscle (thinking of all the photos to come, yikes!) But I have done nothing in that vein since February.

I gained nearly 50lbs with my DD. When I left the hospital I was only down 8lbs which was discouraging and it took me 2 years to lose 30lbs. I ended up gaining 10 back so I’m starting this pregnancy out with a lot more weight than I did with my first. I’m hoping to gain no more than 30-35 with this one and plan to eat better and do some light exercising to make sure I don’t feel/look like a whale by the time I give birth. Last pregnancy I ate whatever I wanted (mostly carbs and junk) but our eating habits have changed for the better so I’m hoping that will help.

I completely relate to all of these. I was a model in my pre baby life so I have a lot of my self worth (unhealthily) tied up in body image. This past year has killed me in terms of fitness and health. I'm trying to gain minimal weight this pregnancy and hope to be able to spend my mat leave getting back into the shape I was in before. I don't want to do too much during pregnancy because I'm old and we've decided this is our last shot at this. But I used to live in the gym so I want to find a way to get back to that fitness level after. But at home with the kids instead of in the gym. Luckily where I am in Canada we have an 18 month mat leave...so I have time.

sunshiney It's what I've always heard. Good news is that if you do low weight but lots of reps you get the definition you want without the bulk. So if you haven't been doing much with weights just use 5 lbs weights and do a lot of reps. It's a safe weight throughout and you should be fine.

sammysam Holy cow! 18 months maternity leave?! That’s freaking AWESOME! I know right???? They just added the extra 6 months this past year. It was 12 months when I had DD. We don't get any more money than we did then (we got about 24k from the government for the year...so we will still only get 24k over the 18 months) but my work tops up the first 2 months to my full salary so it shouldn't be too bad. And I'll get a double pay check the month I go back so that will help a bit too. Just have to tighten our belts a bit;)

sammysam, that's amazing! I work FT now, but I'm considering SAH after having my second. I had a really rough time going back to work after DD.

I can't imagine having to go back when LO is just a baby. People opt to go back early here but it's nice that we at least have the choice. Every country should have this option available to parents. Technically we collect Employment Insurance while on mat leave so as long as you have a job you can collect up to 40% of your salary while off but they cap it at a certain amount so I only get like 15% of mine...but it's still totally worth it to me.

I am so not a baby person and I found going back to work like a vacation compared with taking care of a toddler. But when DD got a little older I found it harder and harder to go back to work at the end of each summer. Now I'm looking forward to the time off again. I envy anyone who can SAH. I say if you can swing it go for it!

I was just telling my husband last night that Canada is sounding like a great option with all the stuff going on with Trump 😢 but obviously it’s not something we could do for many reasons. In theory it sounds like a great idea though! Haha
