I'm glad I resisted the temptation to write Avenatti off as a publicity seeking grifter-- he's now representing several people migrant and refugee parents in the fight to be reunited with their children, as well as ICE and CBP whistleblowers. I felt myself toeing the line with him too - but I always felt like at the end of the day he actually cares about this country and has seen more than we have in regards to Trump and Cohen and is just, well, super pissed off.

Oh yeah. Ever since 9/11 when we visit family in MI we constantly see CBP cruising around all over the state and they definitely pull people over.

Sorry guys, I know we're saturated but we have to hit the phones.
While we're screaming the doors down about immigration, they're killing the ACA in the shadows. We have to stop this from going to the floor.

Disturbing? Yeah, absolutely. But after Melania's jacket dominated the news cycle last night, I'm not opposed to the idea.

Betsy DeVos just drop 1200 civil rights cases against public schools. Most likely to make public schools look and sound bad to promote her private schools because public schools mistreat kids. Oh in case you didn't already figure out...... Some of these civil rights violations are being done to POE and latinx people. So she dropped them because it isn't a white people problem. DeVos Dumps More Than 1,200 Civil Rights Probes Inherited from Obama

I don't like the opportunistic vibe BUT these people clearly are content to ignore the reality they've created. We have to make it impossible for them to ignore. Unfortunately, to change things, you have to make people uncomfortable.

I still think he's a publicity seeking grifter. But I do think he's using it for good, not evil, and as long as he's actually helping people--which he seems to be--he can AW all he wants. ^that sums up my feelings about him perfectly

Amy Siskind is retweeting/facebooking about complaining to the Hauge. Not a bad idea. ETA oios.un.org/page?slug=reporting-wrongdoingWrongdoing that may be reported using this reporting facility includes: Unlawful acts (for example theft, fraud, embezzlement, solicitation/acceptance of bribes, extortion, possession or sale of illegal substances, smuggling); Misrepresentation, forgery, or false certification in connection with any official claim or benefit, (for example regarding dependency allowance, rental subsidy, insurance, education grant, tax reimbursement or travel cost claims); Mishandling of contract obligations and relations with third parties leading to loss of property or assets, or generating liabilities for the Organization; Failure to disclose an interest or relationship with a third party who might benefit from a decision in which the staff member takes part; Allegations of sexual abuse and sexual exploitation as defined in ST/SGB/2003/13

I have no sympathy for them. They made their choices.

I loved the Politico article even if it is petty. I feel like more people should have to acknowledge that their professional choices may affect how others view them. There is such a lack of morality and empathy with that administration and at some point, you have to somewhat be ok with it if you work for them.

Soooooooo.......so much for "sleep well tonight!" What a dumbass.
Just in: White House is continuing national emergency on North Korea, saying it poses "an unusual & extraordinary threat to the national security, foreign policy & economy of the United States."
Last week, Trump said, "There is no longer a Nuclear Threat from North Korea."

Re: talking to kids about big/scary/ important themes. I just saw the Mr Rogers documentary and he did lots of episodes to address world events (assassination, segregation, death, war, etc.) I'm sure there are many episodes that would be relevant conversation starters. I'll have to wade through and see if there is anything here: pbskids.org/rogers/vote/

The House passed the Farm bill without a single Democratic vote yesterday. A few moderate and a few libertarian Republicans voted against the bill too. This bill, as written, could throw 2 million people off of their SNAP benefits. I think we might be able to kill it in the Senate.
