I don't want to read that article. Well, FWIW my dad still has halos. He had it done about 18 years ago. Still, he thinks even with the halos it is worth it.

Have any of you had Lasik done? Is it as life changing as I have heard? I had my consult today and I am totally sold because I have been in glasses/contacts for 21yrs, I just need to convince my H with perfect vision that it is worth spending the money on. MH and my sister both did and neither have regretted it for a second

Every time I think I'm ready to do it I think that something could go horribly wrong and I'll be blind and never see my kids grow up. Anxiety sucks. My sister had it done 10 years ago and hasn't had any problems.

I’ve had two really busy work days, but I have NOTHING planned for tomorrow. We grilled out with my dad tonight and MH is going to play soccer tomorrow, so maybe I’ll take the boys to the botanical gardens.

DS2 had tee ball today. It was miserably hot, my car said 103 degrees. I stopped at a sub place to grab lunch on the way home and the teens working were laughing. I get home and see that I had boob sweat so bad. Oops.
But the snack that ds got after the game was ridiculous. In a gallon Ziploc, he got a Capri Sun, pretzels, orange, rice Krispy treat and fruit snacks. His team is 3 and 4 year olds. I know we've had the snack discussion before, and my kids are snack motivated, but this was like 4 snacks worth.

All of us went down to happy hour to have drinks and wings, and then came back up to the room. I’m on glass #3 of wine and feeling like #4 will happen tonight.

I will add that I’ve had about 9 or 10 members of my extended family get lasik (bad eyesight runs in the family, obviously), and no one has had complications. Two have had touch ups.

Then my husband sent me this article and I am having many many second thoughts. mobile.nytimes.com/2018/06/11/well/lasik-complications-vision.html

SO had LASIK and it didn’t work. He then had PRK after and was fine for a few years but now he’s back in glasses/contacts and not a good candidate for another surgery.
He was practically blind beforehand though, so I don’t know if that had something to do with it

Don’t read it if you have already decided to do it. But if you are still looking for pros and cons it is eye opening (no pun intended).

From what I understand, if a person needs PRK, LASIK will be ineffective. And PRK is less likely to be effective long-term.

My most important piece of advice is to research your surgeon. Any good surgeon will inform you of the risks and likelihood of complications. Idk if it’s still the case, but when I had it done, everyone was doing free consultations.
I was not scandalized by the article because those were all risks that were thoroughly covered by my surgeon prior to the procedure.
And...you have two eyes. The chance of things going wrong with even ONE eye is incredibly small.

It's been raining off and on all day. We spent a few hours at the aquarium and botanical gardens in between storms. We picked up Chinese on the way home for dinner. I would love a drink but I'm still not feeling 100% yet.

H got a “stick” from work to open the gates and trailer doors. They told him to personalize it and make sure he doesn’t lose it. I decided to get duck tape and design it for him. I went a little overboard, but he loves it.

DH had it done about 9 years ago and has been very happy. His vision is as good as it was when it was first done but he doesn’t need glasses either. If he would have gone to his annual appointment they would have redone the procedure to keep him at 20/20 or better.
