FFFC: I am like 75% of the way done with Christmas and birthday shopping for my kids. They have October and December birthdays. How do you know what they will be into then? I like shopping ahead, but I have no idea what 6 year olds like and that’s the age DS will be at Christmas. I'm leaving the remaining 25% to buy stuff like character toys closer to their birthdays/Christmas.
They will be 3 & 5 on their next birthdays. DS1 is just getting to the regular Lego stage (the small ones, not Duplos), and is kind of obsessed. So I'm willing to bet Legos will be a hit for a while. And I think things like RC cars and Magformers will have some staying power with those ages.
I know they'll get more picky as they get older, though.

I will dissent and say the cat food thing is strange. yeah but three year olds in general are strange Yea but I’m not egging it on though. S is incredibly passionate about pirate bootys and hugs on the bag like it’s a pillow when we go to the grocery store. The end. I’m not going to play “take the bag to the daycare” or “sleep with the bag” game.

I do all of my Christmas/Bday shopping (Nov bday for my girl) on Prime Day. Which usually coincides with my birthday so I have so much fun shopping that day.Same! Mine is the 14th, so a lot of the Prime Day deliveries show up that day.

My other confession is that the Nickelback concert I went to in college is still my favorite concert I've ever been to.

I will dissent and say the cat food thing is strange. yeah but three year olds in general are strange I mean this is the time the parents are teaching and molding and um "no love we don't sleep with a bag of cat food. We can sit it right next to the door so we don't forget to bring it to Jack."
"Jack doesn't need food right now but when he does we will be sure to get him a bag."
This could go all kinds of ways. It's not kid's choice.

I wanted to get this silly one out before I forgot it again. Years ago, on my commute to my first job out of college I drove by this motel. For an entire year I thought it was named The Strangle Motel. It tickled me a little that this seedy looking place had such creepy name. Well one day I went by the sign on the exit ramp and realized it was really called The Stangel Motel. No R in there. I was a little let down honestly. 🤷♀️😂 I read this several times and I don't know what the fuck is going on in this post. I thought a motel I went by daily for a year was called The Strangle Motel. Like as in strangling someone. It took me a year to realize it was not the actual name.

So I sort of touched on this yesterday but my kid is obsessed with buying cat food - the dry kibble kind. When he goes to my Mom's she lets him feed the cats so he gets super excited. Anyway, on a few occasions when I have had to go run an errand at Target or something, he asks if he can come with and get Jack's (mom's cat) food. Doesn't want toys, nada, just the kibble. He holds onto it for dear life in the cart, and sleeps with the unopened bag in his crib until we see my Mom and he can give her the bag and feed the cats at her house. Yesterday he took it one step further by taking the bag into daycare with him. I don't want to rob him of his joy so I just let it be. He took it again with him today, and yes he slept with the bag in his crib last night. He sits it in the corner next to him, cat picture side facing him. I'll add a pic in a sec. I just can't buy a gift and sit on it for over 6 months. I don't see that happening.

We let kids sleep with lovies, stuffed, animals, and binkies. All things that are no longer appropriate when they get older. So how is the cat food any different?

I will dissent and say the cat food thing is strange. He's a toddler. Toddlers are not normal. Lol.
Anyway I am going to tread lightly here because it's my kid. It's not harming anyone/anything, he's happy. End of story.

How is cat food different from a binkie???????? Whattttttttt??? I think the point is that children shouldn't carry binkies, blankies, lovies, stuffies, OR cat food to Kindy with them. She probably plans to take the cat food away from him before Kindy. She's not setting her 3 yo up for a lifetime of cat food therapy sessions. If he wants to sleep with the cat food, it's no different than him sleeping with any of the others. It's a comfort item, and he's 3. It's age-appropriate for 3 yo to have comfort items.

I'm doing one of those three-part pictures for H for Father's Day — with DD holding a D, A, D. I bought the letters on Amazon recently, and I bought two D's. ... This made my day.

This is FFFC thread? Yes? Or no? You chose to post a confession that included your kid and I think it’s strange.

Meh, I can see myself allowing the cat food bag. It's not hurting anyone and it's making him happy. I doubt he'll be carrying a cat food bag to elementary school 🤷♀️ It’s not a battle I would pick.

Sleeping with cat food is not equivalent to sleeping with a pack. Sorry I’m not conceding to that.

I’m a thief of joy. I would say no to cat food in the bed. But I’m a strict plane on bedtime in general. One lovey. And a comfortable bed. That’s what I provide.

I just want to clarify because I see this taking a left -
No one said anything about your child. No one said he was harming anyone or anything.
The comments made were about encouraging/egging it etc. I just feel I need to point that out before the narrative becomes about something else.

And I can mildly tease him about it later in life. Lolzzzzz

Don't know what to tell you. Toddlers are weird as fuck and choose weird as fuck things as comfort items. My kid loves this greeting card with Santa on it. And her Ikea Puppies. One of them is "ok" because it's a traditional comfort item, and the other would get Oprah blank stare...but why exactly?
