Settle a debate between me and H: does steak taste better with or without a sauce?
And I don’t mean A1. I mean, like, at a nice steakhouse - a bernaise, peppercorn, chimichurri, etc.

I wanted to say no, good steak needs nothing...but then I remembered the bomb carne asada I had last year, and the chimichurri on it definitely enhanced it.

If a steak needs a sauce to taste better, you need a new steak.

No sauce. A1 is gross. Other seasonings are typically too salty for me.

NO.
And if a steak needs a sauce to taste good then it's badly made.

i say it depends. I can eat it both ways.
Whenever I buy ranchera for fajitas or tacos I always eat with salsa and whatnot. I don't usually by steak to eat fork and knife style. I sound so fancy huh?
Otherwise I look like uncle Rico from Napoleon dynamite.

I go both ways.
I love chimichurri.
Mmmmm. Steak.

I good steak does not need sauce to enhance flavor, but I love sauce. Does herb butter count? I know some high end steakhouses that do this to.

Agree that good steak shouldn’t NEED a sauce but I’m a sucker for a medium rare filet + bearnaise.

I don't think I've ever had a steak with actual sauce. Just butter on top of it or something. So I vote no sauce.

No sauce. DH always covers his in a horseradish sauce. I like horseradish in general, but I like to taste my steak.

I am team no sauce. As others said, a good steak doesn’t need sauce. I just love the taste of steak. Why mask that?
I told H to save the sauce for chicken.

A steak shouldn’t need a sauce, but that said there are a couple sauces I enjoy with a steak occasionally, like herbed butter.

If you need sauce, then you are eating poorly cooked or poorly seasoned steak.

I’ll agree that a good steak doesn’t NEED sauce, but that doesn’t mean I don’t want sauce. I can go either way depending on my mood.

I almost always want some type of sauce. I didn't eat red meat for a long time and I am learning to like it again, but I need something with it.
I also prefer it med-well. :Ducks and runs:

I said yes but I want to take it back because really the only "sauce" I like on steak is herbed butter. Which is not a sauce.

Some of these responses make me sad. I want to TETO, but I have very strict steak feels.
