Both my niece and my nephew are finding out if they graduated high school today! I’m confused. Shouldn’t they know if they’ll be graduating or not? Like, is it a surprise over there or something? What am I missing? Maybe it’s too early for me to comprehend information.

tgrimes Different system over here. They had final exams two weeks ago, they count for 50% of your grade. The other 50% is made up by the tests they did the last two years. Today they find out the grades of their final exams and if the combined scores are enough for them to graduate and get their high school diploma! ETA so not really a total surprise, I mean most kids have a hunch how they did. But usually it’s an extremely stressful day for most kids and parents.

That sounds like a tremendous amount of pressure on just a few exams. Thanks for the explanation, I was confused, too!

guster it is horrible you have 6 exams in 5-10 days and your whole future depends on it. Yet we’ve all done it and it also feels like a rite of passage. If you pass your exams you can hang a flag with you bookbag on it, I snap a pic for you guys tomorrow if the flags every where.

Morning!
Kids are up, we’ve already had breakfast, and I’m wondering how to fill the day 😜 My original plan was a pool day but weather is not looking great.

Morning! Thanks for the explanation nam2013, I was confused as well. I feel like I knew half way through my senior year that I would graduate with no issues, maybe before. I can't remember what it was called, but my last semester, I helped in the office, going to each class getting the slips for who was absent or tardy, for 3 different sessions of the day. Looking back, I should have requested early out, but I got to hang out in the hallway with friends, so it was more fun! Another busy day at work. I left my desk an absolute mess last night, which I hate to do, normally I put everything in piles, but not last night. MIL wants to take Evie to the park tonight, H is out of town, so I sent a text to my BFs to see if anyone wanted to go to dinner. I'm already kind of regretting it.

Tapa ate my response, but it's a gray day here, too. The kids are asking for Play-Doh, so that'll take up most of our morning.

Morning! We are up and at em. We are still in AR at MH’s business. He fell asleep on the couch last night so it was just S and I sleeping in the bedroom. He came in at 5:45 to get his clothes so he could go out and get on the tractor. I woke up briefly and told him we were up for a few hours in the MOTN. Then went back to sleep. He came back in the room an hour later to tell me that the dog shit on the floor but he would clean it up since I was still asleep....really dude?! Just clean up the shit! I don’t need a play by play! And with that, there was no more sleeping. Because S was now awake since he is the least quiet person ever 🙄.
We are going today for an ultrasound on our lab who is hopefully pregnant with puppies! My BIL needs a new pup as his dog is getting too old to hunt and is now a fat lazy house dog (my favorite!). No worries...we are not a puppy mill or “breeders”. This is the first and only time she will be bred. But whenever MH, FIL, or BIL needs a new dog, one of them breeds theirs and they’ve always had pups from the same bloodline. Our first lab was the “Grandma” to our 2nd lab. Then our 3rd (Current) lab came from a litter mate of our 2nd lab. It’s kinda special to have a “piece” of them with us still after they’ve passed.

Today is the graduation ceremony for DS1 from elementary school. I’m sad to see him grow up but happy he’s getting out of there, the boys in his grade are awful.

It looks really good. He took a fence to the forehead last night at the park with H though and has a scrape right under his puncture wounds.

Morning. S woke up on the wrong side of the bed and has been a crab. Girls are eating breakfast and then I need to get everyone ready to go. I’m dropping the girls with MIL, they’re going to a park to play, and then I’m going to work for a couple of hours. No real plans for the rest of the day, it’s nice so maybe the pool. That’s interesting nam2013. I’m not sure if you know, but here you just have to have so many of the required classes to graduate. For example: 4 years of math, 3 years of science, 1 semester of physical education, etc. Obviously you have to pass the classes for it to count.

I am super tired after a 12 hour day yesterday. I have gotten used to the government work lifestyle of 8 hours so doing more was hard. Anyway, I have zero motivation to do anything. I am still waiting to hear from my Dr's about a biopsy and the wait is killing me because I will need at least one day out of work and I need to plan. I also have a ton of comp time to use before next Friday and it would be nice to use it on the biopsy instead of having to take leave for that. But I am doubtful I will get in that soon considering no one is calling me with a plan.
T Ball was cancelled tonight due to the rain but they are having a pizza party instead and his pictures are in so we will pick those up. He is very excited. I'm still bummed graduation isn't tonight though because DH can't come tomorrow and C will be sad about that.

trtlcrzy we have a very complicated system, different levels (low>4 years more practical - highest>6 years pre academic). I mean even parents here struggle to understand the system.

Morning time. I signed up j for swimming at the pool around the corner...not realizing it requires a parent in the pool🤦. So annoyed with myself..no wonder there were weekend slots still available. I have N on an aquatots wait-list too. That bode Miller story is absolutely crushing and now I'm terrified of pools and want my kids to be able to swim asap.

Wow nam2013.... that is crazy! I wouldn’t have amounted to anything if I that was how I had to pass high school 😂 I got by doing the bare minimum... which is not much.

Down in FL there are some proficiency exams in I think English and math that the kids have to pass to graduate. I’m not sure how it works exactly since I went to private school, but one of my cousins *really* struggled in one of those two areas and was on the fence. Thankfully he made it! I’m not sure what happens if you don’t pass it, maybe summer school or retaking it?

tallb oh the Bode Miller story is heartbreaking, esp having one exactly that age. I know accidents can happen and I wasn’t there so obviously can’t judge, but so often you hear of these things happening at parties where people aren’t paying attention (or everyone thinks that *someone else* is watching). Just awful. I am paranoid about water safety, too. B is a competent swimmer but we’ve signed him up for lessons to begin working on strokes next week. C is super comfortable in the water but she’s doing some later in the summer. And having the pool we are obsessive about locked doors, supervision, etc.

Kids in New York have to pass the regents exams in order to graduate. They come at the end of each math subject, each history, each science, and after three years in English and Modern language. They're pretty basic, but some kids still struggle with them. The school i used to teach in is looking to going to an IB program and that would eliminate these state tests.

Morning all! I feel good this morning so I think my plague has passed! Yay! And dh get back late tonight so I’m in my final stretch of solo parenting! guster flamingo tallb the bode Miller story was heartbreaking. We spend most of our summer at pools and plan on putting one in our house for next summer. The two little boys are ok swimmers but I’m going to get them swim lessons this summer and I’m going to enroll C in rescue swimming when she is six months or so.

Since we were just talking about Disney movies yesterday, have y’all seen they’re making a live-action version of Dumbo? The trailer just popped up on my FB, I think Tim Burton is involved.
