I woke up yesterday with some uncomfortable contractions. Around 10 am, I noticed they were getting pretty close together, so I called the doc and they wanted me to come into the office to be checked.
My favorite doc was on call (yay!) and she found that I was 50% effaced and 3 cm dilated. She admitted me to the hospital and checked baby’s position to make sure she was still head down (she was!) and okayed VBAC. They broke my water soon after. I labored for a while and got a epidural when I was around 5 cm at 3:20.
Epidurals are the best and I rested for a while. Doc checked me at 6:30 and I was fully dilated and effaced! The L&D ward was CRAY - more laboring women than rooms - so my doc was with me and having me push, but we didn’t have a nurse! So we stopped for a bit and waited.
Nurse came around 7 and I pushed consistently for nearly 2 hours. Baby was sunny side up and refusing to flip, so we had to work a little harder for it. My contractions were so close together from the get-go - barely any time to catch my breath. I was SUCH a baby about it, guys! Lots of “I can’t do this” and “is it too late for a section?”
Finally baby got her face under my pubic bone and I pushed her out at 8:48. She was perfect and cuddled me while the doc took FOR.E.VER. to sew up what she called “some small tears,” but did not feel as such! Unfortunately I tore up a little bit, my actual nightmare, but whatever. I’m still glad I got to have the vaginal birth experience.
And little Sal.ly is totally worth it! She nursed like a champ and is now snoozing, as is H, while I am an insomniac.
