How old is LO? Will be 3 weeks on Wednesday How's everything going? Good. She still struggles with my OALD, but nursing like a champ. Questions/concerns/cute stories to share? I love her cute little smiles when she's milk drunk 0-1mo: How's your postpartum recovery going? Much better this time around. Still spotting and pooping sucks, but overall better than with DS. 1-3mo: Getting through growth spurts okay? If you're pumping, how is that going? When are you returning to work, or are you SAH? Not pumping yet GTKY: what was your favorite hobby pre-children? Running and it still is my favorite hobby Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

How old is LO? 5 weeks Thursday
How's everything going? Going good. Still using the nipple shield.
Questions/concerns/cute stories to share? I'm finding it hard to have time for just me. I'm so over being touched and I have aways to go. I know it's just a stage, but does everyone need to touch me constantly?!?
0-1mo: How's your postpartum recovery going? It's pretty good. Light bleeding after sex, don't know what that's about.
1-3mo: Getting through growth spurts okay? He eats every 2ish hours during the day but tends to sleep pretty well at night, so I can't complain.
If you're pumping, how is that going? When are you returning to work, or are you SAH? I SAH, pump for my bigger kids and it's going well.

]How old is LO? 2 wk2days old How's everything going? Better, my supply took a hit with the mastitis and kidney infection but were recovering and I didn't supplement which was tempting and almost necessary. Questions/concerns/cute stories to share? Anyone have tips for a shallow latch? 0-1mo:How's your postpartum recovery going? I've hit a few barriers I got mastitis 1 week in and then a kidney infection. I'm feeling super drained of energy but the soreness is gone, aside from the sore nipples. GTKY: what was your favorite hobby pre-children? Traveling and camping.

How old is LO? 11 days
How's everything going? I think ok but I'm constantly afraid she's not getting enough milk or that I'm not feeding her enough even though her weight gain was good and she has plenty of diapers.
Questions/concerns/cute stories to share? Question: I'm SUPER torn about giving a pacifier right now. She has these bewitching hours at night where she just screams and I feel like a pacifier would help but I'm really trying to hold off the recommended 3-4 weeks or even 6 weeks that many resources suggest. What have others done who really want breastfeeding to be super successful?!
0-1mo: How's your postpartum recovery going? It's going... I'm still in a bunch of vaginal pain as well as tailbone and SPD pain. I have the chiropractor tomorrow though so looking forward to that and I need to get better about sitz baths.
If you're pumping, how is that going? When are you returning to work, or are you SAH? Not pumping yet. Will start a job hopefully in December or January.
GTKY: what was your favorite hobby pre-children? I did a lot of musical theater though I stopped about 3 years ago for graduate school. Hoping some day to have time for it again!

ccp for shallow latch get baby to tilt head back while they open their mouth and then do the hamburger squeeze on your breast to smush as much in there as possible.

ccp my fav latch technique rosesquared trusting your baby & diaper count without ever knowing exactly how much she's drinking is a strange adjustment, since our culture tends to be bottle/oz oriented. Hopefully the regular weight checks of the first month or so will help reassure you. Re: pacifier, that's your call. If your newborn is especially sleepy, the suckling from the pacifier may keep her asleep / make her feel full when she's not. Otherwise probably fine; the pacifier isn't giving any milk so baby generally spits it out and lets you know when she's hungry. You can always try it and if you think it's interfering with nursing, take it away. The flip side of no pacifiers is she uses you as a pacifier, which is good for your supply. But if you're nursing on demand and the pacifier gives you a witching hour break / you have a baby with a really high need to suck, then it can be a really useful parenting tool. www.llli.org/nb/nbnovdec95p172.html

How's everything going? Not great honestly. She has a shallow latch and I'm having a hard time correcting it. Not bf related, but I miss my 2 year old so much - she's always with DH bc I'm feeding the baby.
Questions/concerns/cute stories to share? I guess I'm letting her sleep too long sometimes bc she's super mad when I wake her up and won't latch. I also usually end up needing to feed her again before she'll fall asleep. I feel like I have no idea what I'm doing despite bf DD1 for 23 months.
0-1mo: How's your postpartum recovery going? A total breeze compared to last time! I think I've taken 3-4 doses of Motrin and that's it.
If you're pumping, how is that going? When are you returning to work, or are you SAH? Not pumping yet. I'll probably go back to work in early October, though DH and I are always talking about me quitting and staying home.
GTKY: weight lifting!

agm04 hey friend :-) sorry things are rough. Seen an IBCLC to have latch evaluated & mouth checked for ties? Is shallow latch from the get go or as the session progresses? If the former, there's a video and some tips above. If the latter, could be a positioning problem. You want baby well supported against your body so she relaxes into you, not away. Chest, belly, thighs against your body and room for her to tilt her head back. You may find laid back positioning good because gravity will help her keep a deep latch

How old is LO? Will be 6 weeks this weekend
How's everything going? Going pretty well! I've noticed that DS is getting more efficient. The 30+ minute nursing session is a rare thing now.
Questions/concerns/cute stories to share? Is it normal for DS to have longer stretches of sleep earlier in the evening and shorter stretches as the night continues? He'll give us 3-4 hours initially, but after 1am, it's more like 2.5 hours or less. By 4 or 5am, it's down to 1.5 hours. I just get concerned that he's not eating enough during MOTN feedings because he's tired. He's not nursing for shorter periods of time, but perhaps he's just not as efficient.
0-1mo: How's your postpartum recovery going? I had a c-section and my OB cleared me at 4 weeks, so it was pretty smooth I think.
1-3mo: Getting through growth spurts okay? I assume we'll hit that 6 week growth spurt soon. He's definitely fussier in the evenings, but he's MUCH better if I really stay on top of his sleepy cues and he naps appropriately.
If you're pumping, how is that going? When are you returning to work, or are you SAH? Not pumping yet (asked for advice in this forum while I game plan). I go back after Labor Day.
GTKY: what was your favorite hobby pre-children? Super lazy, but MH and I loved laying on the couch together just watching TV.

rosesquared I was also all about waiting as long as possible to give DS a pacifier, but we gave in about a week after we got home. He wasn't very good at holding onto it, though. I've also let him suck on my thumb in a pinch and even did that in the hospital. I felt comfortable with it once we gave in because his latch was good from the beginning and he was already gaining weight when we were discharged from the hospital. If he's really hungry, he will definitely reject the pacifier, and he usually spits it out at some point while he's sleeping. I would just watch how long between feedings, and he never seemed to go longer just because of the pacifier. I think that if we had been struggling with latch issues, weight gain, or supply, I would have delayed introducing it. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

lily hi! thank you. It's shallow from the start. I've been working on the flipple thing you posted yesterday and it seems to be helping, so thanks! I've also been waking her up earlier. That seems to help us latch in general. I keep telling myself it will get easier!

gimmesugar that pattern of one long stretch at night then wake ups increasingly close together is a common pattern.

Lately when nursing, DD gets frustrated at the first breast after about 10 minutes then gets content at the second breast for longer. Have people experienced this? I'm worried she's not spending enough time at the first breast... Maybe she's just efficient but of course it makes me question my supply and whether she's getting the fattier milk at the end.

rosesquared DS would sometimes spend more time on one side than the other. He would get tired on the first side, then wake up after a diaper change or burp, and nurse for longer on the other side. I'm a nerd and time/track everything on an app, and it generally all evened out over the course of a day or week. When I really thought he missed out on one side, I would restart him on that side the next feeding, especially if I felt engorged. I've also gone back and forth multiple times when he's gotten frustrated on one side or the other. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Hi all, going to pop in here!
How old is LO? 4 weeks today
How's everything going? Eh. He seems to be nursing just fine and my supply seems to be ok but I'm not really enjoying nursing at all.
Questions/concerns/cute stories to share? How will I know if he's gotten enough from the breast? He tends to fall asleep or unlatch a lot (Im suspecting he has reflux) and doesn't seem to eat for more than 5 solid minutes. The pedi had us supplementing as well because he lost a lot of weight after birth and he'll pound back a 2-3oz bottle after nursing.
0-1mo: How's your postpartum recovery going? I'm feeling fine. Dealing with a toddler and a newborn though is organized chaos but we're managing.
1-3mo: Getting through growth spurts okay?
If you're pumping, how is that going? When are you returning to work, or are you SAH? I work super, super PT from home and pump whenever DS2 misses a feed or gets a bottle. So far so good.
GTKY: what was your favorite hobby pre-children? Reading. I miss just sitting down with a book for a few hours.

And yeah I track everything too and it seems to even out. It's just crazy sometimes she'll stay latched for like 20 minutes or more on one side and other times she is like just barely 10 minutes then done. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

lupincat 5-6+ wet diapers in 24 hours means LO is getting enough overall. A simple sign that baby is full at the end of any given session is relaxed open hands. breastfeedingusa.org/content/article/how-can-i-tell-if-my-baby-fullTips for keeping baby awake include stripping him down to just his diaper, stroking his cheek/shoulder/back when he starts to drift off, breast compressions to speed milk flow and keep him interested if he starts to drift off, changing diaper between breasts, and/or running a cool rag over his feet or arms while nursing. Does your pedi have a plan to move away from supplementing? An IBCLC visit may be a great next step for you. You could do a weighted feed to see how much he's transferring in a session & come up with a way to wean off the nurse/pump/supplement triple feed as that is exhausting. Downing a bottle after nursing does not mean baby was still that hungry. Bottles are just easier than the breast, and sucking is comforting, especially to a sleepy newborn. this link has good info on reflux and breastfeeding. It recommends uphill positioning (laid back, football, upright are examples) and lots of skin to skin. Your pedi & IBCLC can help figure out if this is the culprit too. Lastly, it's okay to not love nursing. It is a demanding part of motherhood at an especially draining part of childhood. Be kind to yourself.

lupincat very important to pace feed any bottle given. A slow flow nipple helps too. Ideally when you turn the bottle over, no milk drips out, but that's hard to find. There are many other ways to supplement. A supplemental nursing system would have baby at the breast. Cup feeding uses muscles / sucking skills more similar to breastfeeding. Edit to fix link kellymom.com/ages/newborn/newborn-concerns/alternative-feeding/

lily Thank you for the links! I'll look through them. LO will be one month this week so we'll see the pedi and discuss from there. He's probably ready to stop supplementing, he's on like 90% breast milk and chunking up! I feel like such a newb because I didn't nurse my first past two months and those two months were so hard on me. But anyway, I appreciate the info!
