Sorry for another travel logistics thread. We are flying next month with the 6 month old and the almost 3 year old so I'm trying to work out the logistics of bringing 2 car seats and the necessary gear. We will be renting a car so we will need to bring 2 car seats. I have a joovy caboose or I can just bring the small umbrella stroller and wear the baby or the big can walk. I would consider buying a cheap double umbrella if it makes life easier as well. When we just had 1 we put the car seat in a backpack bag and gate checked it. We have a cosco scenera that still fits the toddler just fine. Advice?

I haven't been following, so sorry if this had been covered, but do you need a stroller for the 3 yo? In March I had a similar situation, and I used the infant car seat with click and go stroller frame for baby (gate checked) and a big backpack to check my older daughter's carseat.

I don't have just a snap and go currently but the joovy accepts car seats so that is an option. DS1 desire to cooperate is definitely variable.

When we did this I wore them both, threw carryon bags in the double stroller and then we actually stacked the car seats on a tiny luggage cart (under $20 at Target) and bungee corded them together/to it. I’m not sure I would trust a 3 year old to cooperate in the airport without a backup plan, so I’d probably have the stroller for them and wear the baby.

I flew in January with my 3 yo and 4 month old, (and my 5 yo).
I checked all car seats at the baggage claim (yes i realize this can be a UO). I then had my double stroller for my kids. My 3 yo alternated between walking and riding. We had a connecting flight with very little time between so we needed her to be quick.
All car seats were fine and I’m glad I didn’t haul them through the airports to be gate checked.

Last year when I flew solo with my then-3yo and 10-month-old, I checked the big's car seat in an old suitcase (free to check as baggage!). I know it's UO, but it was an old one that I planned to leave at my brother's anyway, and the suitcase provided some padding. I gate-checked my infant's seat. In the end, they ended up checking the infant seat that I had gate-checked, which was really annoying, because it was just in one of those red gate bags and the bag got chewed up pretty badly. I wore the baby in my Ergo.
Anyway, I rented a double City Mini at my destination, and it was absolutely worth the cost for that trip. (D.C., we did lots of walking.) Delivered to my brother's apartment by Babyierge and picked up when we were done with no fuss. Just throwing that out in case it would help or is an option for you. I have a Joovy Caboose, but I didn't want to worry about it getting damaged or hassle with gate check. We did something similar when we went to Disney in January and it was a solid decision.

We travel with our twins and just use cheap Cosco Scenera seats on the plane. And then we gate check our nice Citi Mini double stroller, which I prefer to have on vacation. Then MH just lugs around the carseats in the airport and I have the kids in the Citi Mini.

When we used to do this (before my oldest was in a booster) we just each wore a carseat in a backpack. I wore the little guy, DH pulled the big one on a Trunki. But we never travel with a stroller. I always babywore on trips so there'd be one less thing to bring and we could be virtually hands free in the airport. DH with the older one. Me and the little guy.

We have traveled once and will again in July with our 6 mo and 2.5 yo. I plan to do what we did in feb, maybe with adding a wagon for the toddler. We have car seat backpacks for both car seats. Then we try to pack all of our clothes in one large suitcase (and for feb we stuffed as much of the extra bulky coats in our car seat bags which is kind of cheating). We check all 3 of those. Then through the airport I wore the baby (we wore toddler until 18 mo for traveling so this will continue for awhile). Toddler walked and got shoulder rides from dh because we didn’t want to lug a stroller for her to our snowy location with no use once we got there. Dh and I both wore backpacks with diaper bag stuff and entertainment.
A year ago we saw one of dh’s friends with two young kids over a layover and they had one of those nylon fold up wagons instead of a stroller for their kids. We plan to do this eventually because you can pull bags in it if dd is walking or both kids could ride in it. Then you can fold it up and gate check like a stroller.
I’ll follow up with how it goes in July! Ha

Not sure I trust DS1 running around the street of New Orleans! We recently did a car trip to Austin and used the double stroller a lot.

We have one but I feel like DD would bail and it would end up being another bag for us to carry while chasing her around. I haven’t pulled the trigger on bringing it

ldubhawksfan my oldest would like to, but half the time we make him walk and pull it himself. My younger one though is more comparable in age to your daughter (3 on Saturday) and he stays on. He has no desire to get off when he can ride around.

Basically as soon as all my kids could walk they were off the trunki. One was running as fast as his little legs could carry him pulling it behind him and laughing maniacally. At least with a stroller you can strap them in.

When I flew alone with my then 2 year old and 1 year old, I checked my 1 year old's seat to my destination and wore her (she was a lap child). I had a GoGo BabyZ carseat cart I used for the 2 year old and rolled her around strapped into the carseat. I did not need a stroller at my destination so I didn't bother bringing one.
