Weird question ahead: do you feel like your kids are becoming kind of critical of their looks or self-conscious about them?
Atticus keeps asking why my eyes are round, and gets upset almost to the point of crying that his are different.

I make a mean cheese plate. Can I have a mean cheese plate & wine in front of my tent? Only if you promise to make a stop in Connecticut to visit me on your trip!

I’m not one for the outdoors so I’ll hang out with guster and tgrimes. I’m just a city explorer at heart. I like to see buildings, different neighborhoods, check out food and music. If I came across a park in my travels I’d check it out but I’m not scheduling a trip around it. The beach is meh but I live in the Ocean State so I’m used to it.

I always want to be by the water for vacation. I'm happy to do practically nothing all day then explore for dinner and drinks.

I'd smash a vegan version of everything. Not sure how they would accomplish raw herring though.

I feel safe saying 80% of the people from here would LOVE to visit the beach. It's a totally different life than we have easy access to. I would 100% rather take a vacation to the ocean than a national park. I guess maybe because I've always lived close to or at the beach, I don't care about it. If I never saw another beach again I wouldn't miss it. My BFF is from KS and he lives for the beach.

cagoldi I feel like our kids are getting to the age of noticing differences physically and will ask these questions. Evie is on the bigger side so I'm worried about what other kids will say to her.

I love to travel but in small doses. I'm a home body. We're doing 10 days in Cozumel this fall and I know after day 4 I'll be ready to go home.. I like to see sights and do things but not for long periods. Like when my parents hike they regularly stop and look over a cliff or gorge or whatever for an hour.. and take pictures from every angle.. After 5 minutes I'm bored and ready to move on. I hated that growing up. Now they want me to look at 54562 pictures when they get back from somewhere. Drives me nuts.

Am I the only one that has no desire to go to national parks? I’m eh on it. I would if it’s close to wherever I’m visiting but I don’t think I would specifically plan a trip to go to one. I have decided that in adulthood, where I’m responsible for everyone/thing, I don’t like camping. I am down with going to someone’s lake house or renting some sort of cabin, but no thanks to tenting it. There are lots of accommodations in the national parks besides just camping. I don't camp, either. My parents have stayed in nice hotels, or even rented a fairly upscale cabin at a couple parks..so they get the hiking/sight-seeing/etc. during the day and then come back to climate-control, a hot tub and wine fridge

I'm far from Ms Back-to-Nature but inthekitty I'm kind of with you on the cities thing. There are certain aspects I enjoy, like the holidays in NYC, or Chicago in the fall, but I wouldn't really go out of my way to vacation in urban areas in general. If we do that it's maybe a weekend vs. a week-long trip. Obvious exception would be Europe, b/c there is so much history and so many museums, attractions, etc. But here in the states, I tend to prefer something more outdoors-y, scenic and/or super relaxing (beach resort) for big vacations.

Atticus keeps asking why my eyes are round, and gets upset almost to the point of crying that his are different. C has become more aware, but is in denial about anything he doesn't like. Like, his eyes are brown but if a friend or something has blue he will INSIST his are blue too even though he knows they aren't.

I think I just realized that I don’t travel because I don’t know what to do. Growing up, we spent 2 weeks at the beach with my grandparents every summer. In high school, my BFF’s parents took me to Aruba with them every summer. That was really it. Anywhere else I went had a purpose, like Ohio for my cousin’s wedding and Chicago for the gymnastics team I coached. Our first big non Disney trip family trip will most likely be Southern California to see our friends that are moving there at the end of this month but it will probably end up with Disneyland and the beach being involved.
If I went to a National Park, I’d need like a tram tour. I’d like to see one but I don’t like being hot or cold or bitten by bugs or snakes or bears. H and I went camping once before kids. We arrived at like 7 pm, got drunk, then went home at like 7 am. I am horribly allergic to campfires and sneezed all night.

kim22 first off those don't sound like too shabby of vacations! Everyone has their own preferred way to spend their time off, so no judgement here. I grew up going to Wisconsin for 2 weeks every summer, one of those weeks being at my grandparents and another at a lake with all my cousins. Then my dad would take us to OBX for a week at the beach. Only while older did we get more creative and now falling back into what's easy with kids, but hoping to keep it interesting. We like a balance of relaxing and doing things, but with little kids basically everything is exhausting..

Hi!!! I’m late to the party today. My anxiety was super bad today for some unknown reason, but I powered through and am feeling better now. dapostrophe I love the name! My nickname with my highschool friends is Bea! I don’t know if I commented yesterday, but I love the sibling pics! Re: vacations. I do enjoy camping, but for a max of two night, in my camper, with a lake and working toilets and lots of beer. My parents went on a backpacking trip like 12 years ago where the literally hiked and backpacked for ten days, and that sounds like fresh hell to me. I like city vacations because I love exploring new places and trying new foods, but my ideal is a beach resort where I can just relax. FFWC: I have lived in AZ for 15 years and never been to the Grand Canyon. flamingo have we talked about this Scottsdale trip?? Can we try to meet up?

xolastunicornxo if you want to try to check into the Omni this weekend for 2 nights for free, lemme know! Lessons learned for buying non-refundable hotel🤦. So glad we cancelled though, I feel like I'm sinking in quick sand over here, cannot imagine flying out for the weekend right now.
