I need your expert advice. 😊 I read the sleep training thread so I know y'all have lots of it lol.
DS is a March 18 baby, 3 months this week. He sleeps great at night; 7/8pm to 7am, with one dream feed before I go to bed. BUT he takes really short naps. Usually a half hour long. It doesn't seem to make any difference if he's had a long or short wake time. After about half an hour he'll be lying quietly awake in his crib peering around. I've tried leaving him there in hopes he'll go back to sleep, and I've tried rocking him back to sleep. Idk if I should just let him KOKO?? He's generally a happy baby, but his total sleep in 24 hrs is usually under 14. 😳 I also want to work on him putting himself to sleep. He did for a while but idk why we quit? Maybe because he was struggling and I didn't want to let him cry too much since he's always tightly swaddled and doesn't take a pacifier. What else. He sleeps in his crib except when we're out he's in his carseat. I don't think he ever goes more than 2.5 hrs between feedings in the day, usually 2hrs.
TL;DR need advice with the following: -teaching 3m old to go to sleep without rocking -getting 3m old to nap longer than half hour -or should I KOKO since he's happy?
Any and all thoughts/advice appreciated!

I feel like he is still pretty young but you could try "resetting" his sleep cycle before he wakes up at the half hour mark. So go in 20 minutes after he's fallen asleep and nudge them to wake them up ever so slightly , enough for them to stir but then fall back asleep and hopefully start a new sleep cycle and sleep for another 30 minutes. You do run the risk of waking them up too much, in which case you lose 10 minutes of sleep, or if you don't wake them enough to reset then he'll still wake up after 10 minutes.
I think it's good time to start rocking him less and putting him down while drowsy - full disclosure, this never really worked for my kid at that age but it sounds like you have a pretty good sleeper who doesn't mind laying awake in his crib.

Will he sleep longer in the car/swing or if you are holding him? It might be that he can sleep in the crib, but would sleep longer in another setting. I would try rocking for less time at 1 nap a day to start, and see where you get. You can also make sure he's awake as you put him down by stroking his cheek after he's in the crib. I tend to follow the advice on Previous Little Sleep - here's her advice on short naps and what you need to "work on" from 3-6 months. According to her, you've got 3 months to get him sleeping in the crib and going down for naps drowsy but awake. So don't feel like you need to concur this in a week www.preciouslittlesleep.com/monumental-guide-to-short-naps/www.preciouslittlesleep.com/3-6-month-baby-sleep-survival-guide/

moutonrouge he will sleep hours in the carseat. 🙄 Not always, but often. Don't want to put him in there more often though.

In all honesty, KOKO. Some kids don’t nap well, but sleep great at night.
Frankly, I wouldn’t push him putting himself to sleep at this point. He’s only 3 months

Ds2 didn't start getting into a regular nap schedule until he was 6 months old. Now, at almost 8 months, I know generally when he's going to nap or at least how long he will last before I can get him to nap. He was unpredictable at 3 months old and everything I read said that cat naps were normal for that age. It's frustrating but normal.

Thanks all for your advice! I appreciate the links, piratecat and moutonrouge. And thanks for the advice to chill and to not try to do it all in one week. Cause, ya, I was like "well if I'm gonna do this, might as well be today. All I can figure out is that as long as he only takes 30 min naps I have to keep him on a two hour schedule for feeding.
