This will probably get flamed, I know people can choose to spend their money how they want. However. If you have a cash bar I will side eye your super expensive flowers/live band/etc. Fair enough. We did social hour open bar and a bottle of white and red on the tables. My parents couldn’t afford anything more and I was already paying for a bunch of things myself. Lots of DIY things. It was the best we could put together. If anyone came and didn’t realize it was not open bar the whole time and decided to break into their wedding gift to fund their drinking I would not have been the least bit offended. In fact a family member came up and asked for my bottle of wine and I offered it up gladly. I wasn’t drinking it so why should it go to waste?

Cash bars are tacky!

I would have had open bar if I wasn’t going to get $30 and a salad spinner as a gift.

Hope it’s ok if I play here today. I have a personal day and am letting myself actually just do whatever I want to do. Stupid work always gets in the way of me hanging out here. Boo.

I've been to many Midwest weddings and none of them had cash bars. I've only ever experienced cash bar events at kids' birthday parties. I have been to a wedding where reception was 5 hrs, but cash bar the last hour! wut??

I just want to eat everything in sight today. Fecking post-race days. How was it? Don't make me try to find you and your race results on coolrunning. Ha! It was pretty good. I finished in 1:04:08.2, not too shabby for a first time. I had to take a few walk breaks but that's still under my training pace, I averaged 10:14 a mile and trained at 11:06. I'll take it!

I went to a wedding similar. They had it on a Friday afternoon to save money. The wedding wasn’t a destination necessarily but it was about 2 hours from where everyone lived so everyone had to take a full day off work. But then the groom gave the bride this pricey handbag as her wedding gift. Then I’m talking to him and he’s like, “I wanted to gift her a BMW but I couldn’t get it together in time.” You’re out here gifting cars and I’m blowing a vacation day because you want to save money?

I had a dry wedding. <ducks>
But honestly, it was a teeny tiny event with buffet-style food that barely even qualified as a wedding. If I get married again, I would probably do the same thing. I'm just not a wedding person.

I could have done open bar but chose to put the $ into better food. My wedding budget was super small and we were buying a house at the same time.
For our ten year, we are throwing a huge bbq party. We will supply the booze.

So if they don't drink, why would they necessarily spend thousands of dollars for their guests to? I am not sure why I am WKing this. I am team #openbar. I am just saying I can see how it would not be a priority for some.

Also, you don’t look like a boss walking around saying how you were “going to” gift a car. I was “going to” give you guys a wedding present of $1M... but I didn’t.

I cut other parts of my budget to make sure I had a open bar, and my MIL was shook. She definitely thought cash was totally ok, but she came from the “free love 70s potluck wedding on a ranch” days. She is not from the Midwest. My mom, who is, was happy I was having a open bar.

A mom at preschool drop off was telling the teacher that she didn’t realize that she should put sunscreen on her kids while playing outside all day. To explain her severely sunburnt 2 and 5 year olds.
Poor babies!

Your body probably needs a little more for recovery. Also I would be happy if that were my 5k average! Great job!

The way I look at it, the main reason people go to weddings is to drink and eat. So yeah, that's where my monies went.

My FIL gave us money for our wedding reception and requested that his entire amount be spent on wine. Fair enough.

At the end of the day, I will still come to your wedding, dirty dance and get blackout at a cash bar. I would just really prefer not to.
And if you’re going to, give a heads up.

My story would have to be either a) I was lazy or b) I forgot.

Yeah exactly, I will be more pissed I didn't know and didn't bring cash. I don't go to weddings for the ceremony. I go to drink and dance inappropriately, and eat.

I'm just not a wedding person. I don't have a problem with a dry reception. No alcohol is available, no problem. I have a problem for guests paying for anything. First and last time I co-hosted a bridal shower with SILs. They picked a restaurant venue and planned to only pay for bride and her mother. Everyone else pays. Nope and nope to that, especially since it was not on the invite. I did not know until I arrived that plan, so I swooped in and paid for everyone, and told SILs to reimburse me for whatever they want. It was worth the expense over the embarassment I would have felt being associated with this event.

I hit 85 lbs lost today. 15 more lbs and I will have hit my overall goal. Feels weird. I was always very slim my whole life til I had kids. It's so strange to think about how much weight I had gained and now have lost. It's a totally great feeling and I'm very pleased, it just seems unreal. Congratulations on all your hard work and success! Thank you! I just gave away 2 huge bags of clothes that are now too big and it made it all feel more real but also simultaneously more unreal somehow, lol.

Anyways, the couple is the host of the party, therefore it’s their responsibility to provide the food and refreshments.
