So, thanks to y'all, I finally tried watching The Crown. And I'm hooked.
I never knew I could hate Matt Smith so much. I loved him as the Doctor, so it catches me off guard when he does something icky or terrible as Prince Philip. Love the Queen though. God, I didn't think it was possible to love her more than I already do.
I feel bad for Princess Margaret. She got screwed by the system because of her asshole uncle's behavior.

RajahMD , I have such a love/mostly hate relationship with Prince Philip. He seems so awful, and then at times he seems to be the only person that knows what the queen needs and (seems to be) genuinely there for her. It's hard to know if those moments are real and true.

I love Prince Phillip, I may actually cry when he passes away. Ok, I'll give him that I am not a great flyer and the scenes of him yelling at his son who is terrified when flying that "it's just the air" has stuck with me, and I internally yell it at myself on planes, and it mildly helps.

It’s next Saturday and starts during my baby’s 4am wake up so I’ll probably have live coverage. 😭

His racist and sexist comments are what get me. Like, one moment I'll like him, then he says something asshole-ish and I dislike him again.

I also got lost down the Royal Family rabbit hole on Wikipedia the other day.
Did y'all now that they have the announcements, protocol, and funeral arrangements all planned out for the most senior members of the family? They are rehearsed every so often. And they have code names for them, to be used to discretely spread the word of their passing to the leaders of the government. For the Queen, her plan is called Operation London Bridge. Charles and Philip are the only living members who currently have a designated plan in place.
Apparently, the plan designed for Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother was tweaked and used for Diana when she did so unexpectedly.

I think the royals are like the British version of the Kardashians. Right down to strategic leaks to the press and keeping other stories out of the press (though they use the courts more than the power of Mama Kris). There’s even the rumored plastic surgeries and paternity debates.
So in other words, we need a Harry and Meghan reality show stat.

I really need to watch The Crown. I tried watching while I was pregnant and kept falling asleep due to the anti-nausea medication I was on.

I'm not sure how I feel about prince phillip. Watching the crown, I went from hating him to feeling bad for him and then back to dislike.

That's another good one to watch, Helen Mirren plays Queen Elizabeth and is amazing in it.

Did anyone else watch Victoria and Abdul? I really enjoyed it and subsequently went down a rabbit hole about Queen Victoria's relationship with Abdul.

I did read an article about how there is no evidence that Abdual had an STD like the movie portrayed and Indians were pretty unhappy that they put that in there. I read that and held off spending money to rent. I hope it goes on prime soon.

Queen Elizabeth’s coronation was 65 years ago today. She wore the Imperial State Crown as she left Westminster Abbey after her coronation.

Four-year-old Prince Charles was the first child to witness his mother's coronation as Sovereign. HRH received his very own specially illustrated invitation.

elephantastic I love that pic you posted in the other thread of the Queen so young. I just picture her as Claire Fox from The Crown (and Prince Philip as Matt Smith) so it’s always a nice dose of reality to see what they really look like. Lol

I watched the documentary about the Windsor fire in 1992 last night. It was very interesting to watch.
