I'm deep in the throes of planning a winter vacation for December or January. I need all the ideas. We love lazy vacations that include swimming, drinking and eating.
H and I have cruised once on a luxury cruise line, but kids aren't allowed on that line nor can we afford to replicate that trip. Also, H got sea sick, so that's a major hesitation of his to try a cruise vacation again. He's mostly worried that both he and DS will get sick and the vacation will be miserable.
For now, I'm looking into Royal Caribbean or Norwegian or Disney, maybe. DS will be 5, almost 6 at that point. Are cruises fun? relaxing? chaotic and crowded? annoying as shit?

I haven’t and I would be very nervous to. It doesn’t sound as fun as the other vacations you’ve taken.
Or a trip to visit your buddy in CA. 😉

If you leave from Vancouver and don't GTG with me I will be devastated. That's all I have.

I haven't been with a kid, but I can comment on Norwegian. We cruised on one of their newest ships. It was great. Tons of stuff to do, lots of restaurants to try (both included and a la carte). The ship (the Escape) had a pool area for the kids near the main pool that was always busy, but not overwhelmingly so. The ship also had waterslides, mini golf, basketball court, and a ropes course that was awesome. There was even a mini ropes course for the young ones. And the staff were great- we didn't have any complaints. I highly recommend NCL.
In fact, I can't wait to go back again.

An Alaskan cruise is high on both of our lists. I think it's something we'll do over summer when DS is late elementary age.

I would love to...I do hate the fact that we have to pay full price for a one year old.

We took a Disney cruise without kids and I’m planning a time to take them after DD2 is potty trained. It was the perfect combo of relaxing and fun.
I get very motion sick and I got patches from my doctor to put behind my ear and it was amazing. Zero sea sickness. I skipped a day to give MH one of mine, and I was miserable, so I know it was working. The only side effect was dry mouth, but I just made sure to always have a drink with me which wasn’t hard.

We usually cruise in the winter because lupus and the sun is no bueno. So when I was looking we would have had to pay for her like a 3rd guest.

We've been on a 2 Disney cruises with another booked for spring break 2019. We really enjoyed them and our girls (5yr & 3yr) have a blast.
Our first was on the Magic and most recent on the Fantasy. DH and I preferred the Magic. It's smaller and felt less chaotic. I get a little sea sick but taking meclizine before getting out of bed in the morning helps. Booking mid-ship helps too.
The Magic has Marvel themed sea days and Fantasy has Star Wars themed sea days if your son is into that.

My son has been on two cruises with us, both on Royal Caribbean. He was two when we took the first one and four on the most recent one. He had a blast. We were lucky that the movement of the ship didn’t bother him at all.
The more recent trip was on their newest ship at that time. There was a lot for him to do. There are play rooms for kids set up by age group. You could go whenever you wanted to play but they also had planned activities too.
Royal Caribbean has some kind of tie in with DreamWorks so we were able to do a character breakfast. They also had character appearances multiple times a day.
The only thing that sucked was being all in one room. We had a hard time getting him to go to sleep while we were still up.

My sister is a big fan of cruises, and takes one or two a year with her boys who are 8 and 9 now. They only do the huge Royal Caribbean ships, because they like the things like the surfing machine and rock climbing. The boys always have fun, and look forward to it.

Yes I wore it behind my ear, and no it didn't make my eyes cross, that sounds freaky. It was horrible. My doctor said he thinks I had it too close to the occipital lobe. I tried the pressure bands and they worked too.

I haven't taken my son yet since he's only 2 but I cruised extensively as a child starting at your son's age and I LOVED it. The kid's clubs are awesome, you can dump off in the morning and pick them up later. They always did neat activities like ship scavenger hunts, pool deck parades, etc. I would become pen pals with some of the kids for years and now I'm actually still FB friends with some of them. I even visited one in Japan! But aside from the kid's club, cruises are so easy with all the different food options. He doesn't want anything at sit down dinner? OK he can have the poolside burger and ice cream instead. Carnival gets a bad/ party reputation but they're really not that bad for the price savings. Royal Caribbean is better, more expensive, but definitely better. Celebrity was my favorite. Most expensive but best food, classier décor, and less party animals.
