If you could choose to go to Ft Wayne Children’s zoo or the Newport aquarium, which would you pick? Why?
We’re thinking of choosing one on Friday, and since it’s my birthday, I get to pick. So, help me pick? Drive time is pretty equivalent for both, so that’s not a real factor.

I love Newport. It only takes a couple of hours to go through, though, so if you're wanting a whole day thing, you would have to find something else in the area.

I would do Newport and make a day out of it by also heading over to Cincy for lunch or dinner or perhaps even a baseball game.

The last time we went to Newport Aquarium in the summer it was SO packed with summer camp kids. You could barely move. It was kind of a nightmare and made it not worth the money we paid. This was on a Friday. I’m not sure if we just got unlucky or what; we went the previous year and it wasn’t crowded at all. Also depending on if schools are still in session around there maybe it won’t be so bad.

So I live in Cincy and I went to the aquarium recently and thought it was meh. I just thought most of the fish there weren't that interesting. However, Cincinnati as a city has so many awesome attractions and things to do that I would pick going there over fort Wayne any day.
What about going to the Cincinnati zoo instead? We have a world class zoo! Plus Fiona the baby hippo, who is adorable 😁

I’ve never been to the zoo, but have been to the Newport Aquarium. It is fun, but I find it pricey for what you get. It’s definitely not a full day thing. It’s located by a bunch of great stuff and downtown Cincinnati is right across the river so you could do other fun stuff to fill the day.

Would you consider the Cincinnati Children's Museum at the Union Terminal? I believe the Union Terminal is still undergoing renovations but the children's museum just reopened.

I have been to the Ft. Wayne Zoo and we all loved it. But I can't compare it to your other options.

You can definitely spend all day. FYI - I just went Friday and it was PACKED by 11. It was a holiday weekend, but it can still get crowded. My suggestion is spend the extra money to get a ZAT ticket. Get there before it opens at 9 and park. Parking can be a nightmare once the main lot fills up. You can get in line to enter at 9. That’s what I did last week (we have passes so we go all the time). By the time I left at 11-11:30, it was crowded, the main lot was completely full, and traffic was a nightmare. Try to see Fiona (she’s amazing), but also see the baby manatees (there are 4 and they swim together in a clump. It’s adorable. And the new gorilla exhibit is awesome. There’s a baby there too and she was sooo cute.

Is it any better/different than COSI or Boonshoft? I haven't been to COSI or Boonshoft but it's awesome for younger kids, maybe 10 and under. Huge water table, fake rocks with a giant digger truck, Legos, music stations, a dance party room, a little city where kids can pretend to work at a vet, grocery, diner, etc. My kids really like this giant area that you can put balls into different machines and watch them. Its really fun and my kids could spend all day there.

Have you considered the Indianapolis zoo? It's really nice and there's a decent amount of indoor exhibits so you're not in the heat the whole time. I've never been to the Ft. Wayne zoo, maybe it's the same? You could make a day of it- canal boat ride, brewery, great selection of restaurants

I would also go for the Cincinnati Zoo. It does get crowded but usually the most crowded area is the Africa area, so get there early and do that part first and it shouldn't be too bad.

Newport is nice but very expensive. And for several summers I was part of the camp crowd and it was a nightmare. We'd bring 50 or 75 kids at a time every week and I felt claustrophobic the whole time (while trying not to lose track of anyone).
I've only been to the Cincinnati Zoo once and it was almost 20 years ago. I have a recollection of it being hilly but that's all I remember.
I can't compare it to any of your other options.

We went to Newport last summer and I thought it was really pricey for what you get out of it, and that was with buy one get one free admission. DD(5) loved it though and has asked to go back
I haven't been to the FW Zoo recently but I remember enjoying it last time I went. We haven't been to the Cincy Zoo yet either but I've heard good things. I think you can get on for half price if you have a Boonshoft membership, pretty sure FW Zoo is the same

I don't think the 3rd floor of the play area is open anymore, at least it hasn't been any of the times we've gone recently. It's a good deal for the price though and DD really enjoys it. They've been redoing a lot of it The AF Museum is almost a whole day experience on it's own, depending how fast/slow you are. There is tons of other aviation relates stuff in the area too.
