I am driving to a NY tomorrow all by my lonesome. I already have an epic music playlist but would like to have a book or podcast as well. I am open to most things, fiction and nonfiction, although fantasy/sci-fi is usually hit or miss for me. To get an idea of what I like, I am currently reading Henrietta Lacks and the last audiobook I listened to was Trevor Noah’s autobiography. As for podcasts, I really enjoyed Slow Burn, Serial, and S-town. I also subscribe to Ear Hustle. Feel free to tell me to fuck off and browse old threads.

What about Educated, or The Glass Castle, or Don’t Let’s Go To The Dogs Tonight? They’re all memoirs of dysfunctional-ish childhoods that read like novels. I read them all in print but they’re popular books so the audio should be well done.

Do you like David Sedaris? I have found his audiobooks to be perfect for long drives.

Do you like David Sedaris? I have found his audiobooks to be perfect for long drives. I do not. I have tried to listen to him so many times and I just can’t.

An American Marriage, by Tayari Jones (novel, depressing at times but hopeful ending) Now I See You, by Nicole Kear (memoir, read by the author, funny) You Don't Have to Say You Love Me, by Sherman Alexie (memoir, read by the author, funny but also emotionally intense) The Good Nurse: A True Story of Medicine, Madness, and Murder, by Charlie Graeber (non-fiction, shocking and riveting)

Ready Player One is my favorite Audiobook of all time. Will Wheaton is the narrator and he is fantastic.

I was going to recommend Trevor Noah’s book.
How about I’ll be Gone in the Dark? It’s the book by Michelle McNamara about the Golden State Killer. It’s interesting because it’s partly about the investigation and partly about her own life and personal interest in covering unsolved crimes as a writer.

Thanks for all the suggestions! They all sound really interesting and I’m probably going to start listening today.

heybulldog Ready Player One is really good, like PP suggested, but it is also very long. it was actually sweetc129 who told me to listen to it. I also want to suggest As You Wish: Inconceivable Tales from the Making of The Princess Bride by Cary Elwes (narrated by him). It was a lot of fun, if you're a fan of the movie.

I did. It was good because WW is such a great narrator, but the book itself wasn’t as good as RPO.
