tarheelmom, yeah I just learned today that I'll get weekly NSTs and ultrasounds too because I'm over 40. A history of hypertension and intrauterine growth restriction buys me nothing, but being 40 (vs. 38 with my last pregnancy) seems to make ALL the difference! I'm not sure when they'll start them though... Not until 33 weeks at least I think because my OB said every 3 wk visits for the next two (I'm 27 weeks now, so I booked 30wk and 33wk appointments today). Well I've been in doctor's offices all day. I took my DS1 to the pediatrician for his 2 year check-up this morning and then I had a 27 week appointment with my OB this afternoon and got to sit around for a while thanks to my GLT. The GLT didn't make me feel quite as sick as I remember from my last pregnancy, so maybe my sugar didn't crash. I'll find out soon enough. DS1 is doing great. He's still a tiny peanut just hanging out at about the 10th percentile for height and weight. I suspect he'll always be small.

So apparently my OB treats her GD patients really conservatively and I'm going to get twice weekly appts from here on out. Gah. A NST every Tues and an u/s every Fri. I mean, it's going to be nice to see the baby every week but lord help me, I'm going to have to bring DD to every appointment and somehow keep her occupied while I lay there for the NSTs. Solidarity! I am also on weekly appointments from here on out (nst, followed by u/s, followed by dr appt). Yesterday was my first and the nst lady was running late, she then I got bumped on the other two schedules and was there over 2hrs...at lunchtime. Not looking forward to these. The u/s is only to check fluid levels (mine was 18 and she said they consider 8-24 as normal, lol), except every 4 weeks when they will check baby size also. Funny thing is this is the first time I’ve had to come in so often. They said it’s because I am over 40. I had gd and g-hypertension with the other pregnancies and only had a couple of nsts and extra u/s’s for each. Weekly would be fine. I don't know why they can't do the NST and u/s on the same day. -_- I guess my place is super conservative, I'm 30 and they're still doing all this.

I'm trying to decide if I want to buy a second glider. I still use DS1's daily, but only for a couple of minutes at a time. I think he would fine without it. I went back and forth on this for a long time. Initially I thought of getting a second chair because we were still using his every night for story time. Once we moved him into his new room and big bed I decided to leave the chair for the nursery. We use his bed for reading books and he has more play space in his room.

The u/s tech told me the only reason for the weekly u/s is to track changes in the nst results vs fluid amount - there’s some correlation that they want to track, so they always follow an nst with an u/s. So I’m surprised they aren’t scheduling yours at the same time too. Maybe a staffing issue? I had fewer days I could pick from since some days they didn’t have anyone doing nsts and other days, no u/s tech.

It’s trending towards being the hottest summer ever on record where I live. Because of course.

I was ok with the glucose drink; no sugar crash. I should know by Friday for sure if I passed or not. It did make me sleepy and full though. I went in hungry and just barely was hungry for dinner. Which I guess is ok because it was too close to my bedtime to eat much anyway. I got the tdap in my left arm and I hope it's not too sore tomorrow since I have to work and use my arms a lot lol.

Using your arms a lot is a good thing. It helps the soreness go away faster. I prefer getting and giving shots in the dominant arm.

Should we do a birth announcement thread?

I spoke too soon about the glucoa drink not messing with me. I got into bed and realized my blood sugar was dropping fast. So I just had a greek yogurt and halfish a serving of goldfish crackers. About 30g of carbs and 13g protein. Ughhhhh to eating this late. I could have tried to ignore it and fall asleep but I didn't want to hurt the baby and I also come pretty close to passing out when it's low. It's my fault for eating such a small dinner. I had broccoli and maybe 1/4c mashed potatoes and 2 oz of roasted chicken. But damn if this could have happened not at bedtime and before I'd flossed and brushed my teeth.

Of course I also drank a whole extra glass of water with the snack so I'll be up peeing all night. I wish I was off tomorrow.

Well I can't sleep now because my 1hr GTT result just popped up online: 130. I don't know if my OB office uses a 130 or 140 cut-off. If it's 130 then I'm going to KICK myself for eating a giant sandwich right before my appointment as well (but it was lunchtime and I was hangry!). I really, really don't want to do the 3hr test I guess I'll figure out tomorrow. Sorry for the whining...

Thanks westiemom and tarheelmom. I just wish I had asked the cut-off today but I assumed it would be no issue because my result was like 72 with my last pregnancy. So now I'm up all night reading the medical literature about the controversies surrounding 1hr GTT cut-off values. I realize I'm ridiculous but I don't handle unexpected medical things well. I'm too much of a control freak.

I need May/June BMB to post more birth stories! 😂
I am hosting a get together tonight so cleaning and cooking on the agenda. Otherwise, DD and I don’t have plans so I’m not sure what we’ll do with our AM. I am about to get her up and go walk then I’ll decide.

Morning! DS and I have playgroup this morning and then I have my growth scan u/s. I haven't had one since 23 weeks so I'm super excited. I'm curious how big the baby is because of my GD.

DS1 was so cranky yesterday from the time he got up until he went to bed. Every little thing caused a meltdown and then he woke up crying twice in the night. He's getting his 2 year molars so I think that's probably why. He was happy as could be this morning even though I had to get him up early since I had to be at work an hour early. I hope he has a good day today.
I pretty much bought everything we really need for the baby this week. I will feel a lot better once we can get the crib and dresser together and everything arrives. We just need diapers and some decor type stuff (curtain rod, lamp, wall letters, and a hamper.)

Just another day at work for me. I'm finally getting over my cold. No more peeing my pants with every coughing fit. DD was miserable this morning. I think she's a couple days behind me and Tuesday was definitely my worst day. I hope she doesn't give her teachers too hard of time today and she starts feeling better tomorrow.

Well I spoke with my OB office and they use a 140 cut-off for the 1hr GTT, so I PASSED! I'm so relieved. I wish it had not kept me up all night, however... ohreally, I'm glad you're feeling better. I hope DD gets better soon too! cornflakegirl, yay for getting to see baby by ultrasound today! Let us know how it goes.

I'm a little jealous of all you getting extra u/s even though I know it means everything is going well. I won't get to see the baby again until he is born unless something comes up.

I remember getting almost daily ultrasounds at the end of my first pregnancy. I think it was to check fluid levels since I was so overdue but I can't remember. I would be so happy never to have another u/s since the tech in my OBGYN office is always so so so so late.

As long as GD is well controlled, it shouldn’t affect baby size. DD was perfectly average size when she was born. Genetics are a whole other boat, though. DS was much bigger at birth and continues to a be a big boy (his daddy’s clone). He currently only weighs 7lbs less than DD and is just 2 shoe sizes smaller - there is a 3 year difference in age!
