Today, F is 1. Besides the fact that I am in deep, deep denial, I am finally comfortable giving her a lovey in her crib. I'm also hoping this will help wean us from her wubbas. But there are so many options! And part of me is still nervous. Recommendations for breathable, wonderful loveys? I cheated and gave J one a while ago. I made it and did all the things to get him to love it but it sits unloved far away from him in the crib. What he does like to take bed with him recently is one of the farmers from this M&D farm set: It fits nicely in his hand and he likes it so. Anyway, I'm no help.

Happy birthday F!
It was around this time I started giving DS1 his lovey at night, which he generally ignored. I know Aden and Anais makes a muslin type lovey if you want something "breathable".

Does he still ignore it? I'm still holding out some hope that he'll like it eventually but is it hopeless?

piratecat He's never cuddled with it but he's used to the lovey being in his bed so he demands that it at least has to be with him when he goes to sleep.

I do not have the ability to make things lol. She really likes holding my hair, so I'm wondering about a light blanket that has fringe. I'm just glad I didn't make two, to have one as a spare/replacement.

I don’t know if it’s too late, but it may be to late to get her to take one. A&A makes muslin ones.
My kids didn’t care for the Muslim ones. They have fabric 14”x14” blankets with an animal head on them. One is the regular blanket material of pretty much any through, DS2’s is more on the silky side.

Someone gave us a unicorn lovey and I have no earthly idea how to get her to like it lol. Maybe I’ll start bringing it on car rides. It’s one of the things she ignores at home.

Hold it every time you hold her, give it on car rides, put it in the crib next to her. It needs to smell like you so don’t be afraid to put it in your bed, too. Same for any spares you may get for the ones they take

DD has a teddy. A friend sent it for her first birthday, and she would hug it when we handed it to her from her toybox. It was one of the only stuffed animals she would consistently hug. Around a month ago we popped it in her crib, and hand it to her after laying her down. She now looks for it when I lay her down, and she hugs it and then rolls over with it. Some mornings she'll want to keep it when we get her up. But we've been pretty strict about teddy staying in the crib/her room.

I guess I’m confused on why you make her keep it in her crib... loveys are comfort items. They need comfort outside of bed when they’re young.

In my family, this was always how it was done - loveys are for bed and naptime only. And she can't take the teddy to daycare anyway. If she was insistent about taking it out of her room, I'd let her. For now she's not trying to do that so I'm not going to push it on her.

Once they hit the 2.5 - 3 year old room, it’s naps only, but before that, they can have them whenever. Not being snippy, I’ve just never heard of a daycare not allowing them

I know they even apply this to pacifiers - the big focus as you're leaving the infant room is transitioning to a sippy cup, wearing shoes, and taking away your pacifier. I think it's somewhat about space, somewhat about not having to keep track of things.

You have to have shoes for the 18m+ ages. It’s up to the parents to track loveys and pacifiers; the teachers won’t do it. We fought them on the cups, though- we don’t drink out of open cups at home, and they wanted us to give DS1 open ones. I told them they could at daycare, but we would not at home. A year later, he still get his sippy at daycare. He won’t drink from open cups without assistance so they give him his sippy cup (he also has some sensory issues, so it may be from that).
