There’s no law requiring separation, it’s a deliberate choice by Trump.

I need the Christian political army to stand up and say something about this horror happening on the southern border. If you're so concerned about protecting babies, WELL. ::gestures broadly:: Because they're not "American" babies, dc2london. Duh. (I can't even say that with heavy sarcasm without feeling the urge to vomit. How do they live with themselves?) If people were flooding into this country from say, Norway, they wouldn’t be doing this. It’s not because they aren’t Americans it’s because they’re brown. *my use of flooding is hyperbolic in case that’s not clear

Thought some local folks would like this - DC/WMATA claims Uber/Lyft/rideshare has cost them customers. This chart shows when ridesharing services started in other major cities, and their overall transit ridership. Hey WMATA - it's not Uber's fault. ::shocked::

There’s no law requiring separation, it’s a deliberate choice by Trump. Yeah, alternative facts. And a hint that he'll keep doing it unless Dems stop him by giving him what he wants.

NK and SK leaders have met again in the demilitarized zone. Discussed the US, not shockingly.

Well, guess I was wrong about our school shooting not making national news. 45 tweeted about it this morning calling the teacher a hero. The science teacher that was shot tackled the shooter, keeping injuries limited to two people. Yes, it was heroic. But all of the praise from Trump and his ilk is causing people to focus on the wrong things. I saw a Facebook comment that if all teachers were this brave, not as many students would die in these events. Um, how about we stop the events in their first place? Or realize that we only seem to appreciate teachers when they are human shields for our kids but pay them and treat them like shit otherwise? Oh, and everyone is leaving out the part about the teen being armed with two hand guns. Pretty sure it’s easier to tackle a student using a handgun in the classroom than one with an AR 15 raining bullets in the hallway.

And teachers should not have to worry about if they will have to stop a shooting or not. Side note, the teacher was from my area so I'm seeing a lot of news about him locally too.

Ha! I'd be out of a job. I teach in the inner city in a refugee dense neighborhood. A third of our student body is ESL and many have undocumented parents. I love my students. She can go to hell.

Trump's tweet this morning is so odd. Who is he referencing when he says "stars in their eyes"? I wonder if he is really missing Hopey today.

I'm not trained for effing combat, I'm trained to teach children how to read.

And this is precisely why we could never get parents to come to school. They loved their children fiercely and wanted to be involved in their educations, but they were petrified that coming to school was a trap for deportation. My first year teaching I had 25 students. One parent showed up for parent teacher conferences. One. And no, it's not because they were lazy, or didn't care. Some of them couldn't attend because they were holding down multiple jobs. But a lot of them straight up told our principal that they wouldn't come to the school because ICE would arrest them there. No matter how much we assured them that we weren't calling ICE. Can you blame them?

Can you blame them? I had an issue in the beginning of this year and mom needed services for her son but was terrified to get them because she was scared of repercussion of being undocumented. Our social workers got involved to help but she was so scared that if she tried to help her son shed get deported instead. Just awful.

I’ve checked out of news for the weekend except FB. I got into a fight on a friends page with her cousin in law who said the article stating there were 18 school shootings was fear mongering because they included suicide and accidental discharge of a firearm. And that the article would comfort my child after being upset after a lockdown. Because my seven year old for sure reads USA Today. Between that and ICE losing 1500 kids.
I’m losing hope for our country and humanity

I’m seeing all over the news that ICE has misplaced 1500 immigrant children separated from their families. How the hell do you lose 1500 children!?! That is some fucked up bullshit right there. I’m seeing one headline that says some were given to human traffickers. I just can’t with that. ETA the government is saying that are not legally responsible for losing them. AYFuckingKM!?!

Really good thread on the missing kids. They aren't actually missing. They've been placed with family or people they have a relationship with that don't want to pick up the phone when they check on the kids because they are likely undocumented.
