I need a place to put this all down- it’s most likely nothing serious and just my kid just getting all the sickness he can at once but it’s really starting to stress me out.
Starting April 30th my kid has been sick pretty consistently.
April 30th, pick him up from DC and he had vomited all over himself- vomiting continued for about 24 hours very low fever. It took him about three days to eat normal regain energy.
Has a couple of ok days
May 7th pick him up from daycare and he clearly has pink eye- bring him to urgent care they give him antibiotics-But DO NOT check is ears- shame on me for not making them.
May 8th crying uncontrollably is in extreme pain and holding his ears, bring him back to urgent care and he has a double ear infection nose and throat look sore. He gets antibiotics.
May 9th, his ear starts gushing puss-google tells me ruptured ear drum but not an emergency situation.
May 10th we get into see primary, confirm middle ear infection and ruptured ear drum. He is told he can stop taking the ear infection antibiotics.
May 11th, he has diarrhea, temp just over 100. By the time I get home his temp is up to 102 and he isn’t eating.
May 12th no more temp but he is tired all day no playing and will not eat- super whiny just not himself.
May 13th he is ok, eating better but very low energy all day- more napping then usual
Today- my H calls me, all he has done today is sleep and still not eating more then a bite or two here and there. No fever.
So when do I start worry? I called the doctor and spoke with the nurse she is going to try and catch our primary between patients today and get back to me. My kid will be three on Thursday and he is typically the kid that never slows down and loves to eat.
He was seen three times last week so I don’t know another doctor trip is needed but I just don’t know. It stressing me out and I want my kid to feel better.

First of all, hugs. It's so hard when your LO is sick back to back.
My guess is that the diarrhea on the 11th could be from taking antibiotics since they can be rough on the digestive system. And that the fever could still be lingering from the ear infection. I'm a little surprised they told you he could stop taking the antibiotics on the 10th though considering he still had the ear infection. Unless they're not effective once the ear drum ruptures?
My DS is younger, but he is not a good eater when he's sick. Even if it's just a cold sometimes he doesn't want to eat much. Your DS has been dealing with a lot in a short amount of time. I would be inclined to think he just needs some more time to recover before he's back to himself. I think it's good you're trying to talk to his primary, but I would just keep watching him for now.

NymeriaI do think he just needs more time to recover it’s just so hard to see him still not doing well. I also can’t decide if he should go to daycare this afternoon or I need to leave work early again.. They had him stop the antibiotics because they are only needed for outer ear infections. The middle ear infections are caused from fluid build up from the ears not properly draining. Which is why he ruptured his ear drum the fluid and pressure built up causes a tear.

Ah, ok. Didn't know that about the antibiotics. Makes sense now.
I try to save working from home/days off for when I really need to so since he's been symptom free for a few days I'd be inclined to send him to daycare. But you know your kid and if you think he would benefit from being home this afternoon then maybe that's what you should do if you can swing it with work. I always feel bad sending him when he's not 100%, but I need to work so as long as he doesn't have symptoms he goes.

meggriffin I’m sorry your babe is not feeling like himself. I have no advice, just hugs. Thank you! I am sure he is fine, he’s just been a lucky kid and doesn’t get sick for long or often so this is out of the norm for me. I am dealing with it really well 😂

Sorry, that sounds so awful, poor baby! To me it sounds like he may have had a few illnesses all at once. Also, the diarrhea could have come from the antibiotics. I would probably keep him home if all he is doing is sleeping/resting. Sounds like he would be miserable at daycare. But you have to do what you think is best, it’s hard taking time off work for a sick kid 🙁.

Doctor just called back, they gave me a few things to look out for. They are keeping his Thursday appointment the nurse set up just in case and they said to keep him home. They think he just needs some serious rest and daycare will be too disruptive.
My h called and said that he cried and wouldn’t leave the bathroom the whole time my H showered for work 😢

Awh, poor guy. I don't have much experience with all of this, but I agree it sounds like a few things going on and some of them sound like they could be be related. Definitely good to talk to his Dr to express your concerns and hear what they have to say. If you truly feel in your gut like it's best for him to stay home today, and you're able to take the time off or work from home, then I would probably tend towards listening to that intuition.
The few times my DS has had low fevers with decreased appetite our ped has been more concerned with him getting enough fluids rather than solid food.
Hang in there mamma! Big hugs! I hope he's feeling better asap!

It’s good you’re taking detailed notes of the timeline of events. I don’t have any advice, but glad you are in close contact with his pediatrician. I agree with justinbobby and your own assessment, it sounds like he needs rest if he’s able to even get comfortable. Could he have any sort of seasonal allergy? I know that’s what us slowing my guy down currently. Just throwing a thought out there, hope he turns around soon either way!

tbirdlove watching for fluid intake was at the top of the list. I was also told if the fever comes back or diarrhea then to let them know.

I’m sorry meggriffin, I’ve been there with both kids. Sometimes it’s just like, WTAF? How long has he been in DC? Our pedi told us that it’s normal for the first 1-2 years in dc to average about 12 sicknesses per year 😱 Can’t wait to do it allllllll over again!
