I can’t really get it up to care about the Matthew/April relationship since we know she’s leaving. I would have been annoyed though if she had left him for Jackson. Again. That would be pretty shitty.
I was really underwhelmed. The finale better be big.

Oh can we also discuss that supposedly Jackson used his entire inheritance to pay victims? Why the hell would a grandson who had nothing to do with it be using his personal money? I feel like that's not how It would work. And I also can't believe Catherine would let him do that. He told Jo he is basically broke. He said he did it (previous episode) because he didn’t want the foundation paying the settlements because that would put the 23 hospitals the foundation owns at risk of closing. (He set aside money for Harriet first.) I’ve thought the whole Harper Avery storyline this season has been poorly done and just an attempt to be current with the #MeToo movement.

Shonda can do relevant episodes so well, like the episode about The Talk and I had high hopes when it first came out that Harper Avery was an asshole, but Catherine worked the settlements and now the foundation is named after her. Jackson, who had nothing to do with it, is the one taking the hit.

Pretty much any scene with Jackson in it, I cried. Did anyone else wonder who was taking care of patients while every single attending was with April? Jo is the only resident they ever show, too, and she was in there as well. I thought for sure April's waking up was the Surge and then when she didn't want to see Harriet, it bothered me because she was going to die without seeing her baby. Maybe April is fine for the most part, but there is some lasting damage to her limbs/hands like addymac mentioned and she can't be a surgeon anymore.

I know she's supposed to be a heartless bitch, but I always liked Nicole Herman. Her storyline in this episode made for some good laughs in between the tears with Jackson. Her calling Arizona a dumbass made me laugh out loud.

But then it's like what was the point of the crash? And if she just couldn't be a surgeon anymore she could still make appearances on be show. I really think wth everything considered she is going to die next episode.

There haven't been any major deaths lately. 2 people are not just going to gently exit the show, IMO.

I really liked last night's episode. Jesse was so great and I cried every time he cried. I couldn't help it.
I was disappointed that she was with Matthew but I wasn't disappointed that she lived. I know it's just TV, but I would hate to see another kid left without a parent.

Also, I'm watching an episode on lifetime right now. It's when April and Jackson find out about Samuel. That seems forever ago and before Derek died. But apparently it was after Derek died and Maggie was here. This show has been on so long I'm confusing the storylines.

Pretty underwhelmed by this episode. I have this "waiting for the rug to be pulled out from under me" feeling. Jesse was brilliant, as always. But the highlight for me was Bailey's definition of parenthood to Owen at the beginning. Spot on.
Should be interesting to see how they wrap things up next week if Pompeo really means what she hinted about it devastating.

Oh and I should not be watching this episode where they have Samuel. I remember watching it when I was pregnant with DD. My post partum emotions will not be any better.

Or what if it's devastating because both April & Harriet die? That'd be super cold of Shonda but that might actually be something that hasn't been done yet on this show.

Given that they really pushed Matthew into this storyline, I hope it’s not something dumb like he took a job closer to family and she is moving with him. 1- that would be boring. 2- makes no sense for her to leave Harriet or move Harriet away from Jackson for any normal reason.

I've been chewing over this episode and (UO probably) I'm actually really annoyed if Jackson all of a sudden starts believing in God. I don't begrudge anyone their faith (everyone has the right to believe or think what makes them happy, you know?), but what is wrong with someone being an atheist? I know way too many people who will think he is "fixed" or "better" for having faith.

And it's not that the scene by her bed wasn't powerful, because it was, but it could have been without him promising to believe in God.
I don't know. I'm probably not expressing myself well about it.

I see what you mean. I had similar thoughts. But then it would have seemed insincere if he didn't keep his promise I guess? I'm wondering if there will be a storyline with it

enchanted continuing my thought...there seemed to be a lot in this episode I guess I am hoping had a reason to be done. The sudden faith thing with Jackson and the whole crash in general. If they do the finale and just "pass over" all of those things I will be irritated, cuz why?

icedcoffee Agreed. Based on what others said about Ellen Pompeo's comments, if this episode was just a way to lull us into thinking April is safe and to reveal her relationship with Matthew (which people had already guessed after the episode when they were all high), then it's just annoying in general.

Just watched. I'm meh on most of the episode. Jackson is the MVP of the episode. The evites to a wedding were tacky AF.
Has anyone said that Arizona absolutely does not die? Because that would be super Shondaland.
I also would have wanted to see my kid immediately. Like Harriet is ... two-ish? You don't need to explain much. Just get some snuggles.
I wonder if Mer putting away Derek's scrub cap means that she is ready to move on? That doctor from last episode waaaas cute.

I didn't even know April and Arizona were that close that AZ is the only one on the planet who knows April is in love. I just watched and this was my thought.

Jesse Willams was riveting. He really brought it on every scene.
I wish we did not know that Arizona and April were making their exits. It’s making things feel...rushed and unauthentic. I’m sure they’ll tie it together, but I feel like I can’t really enjoy the show because I know they are leaving.

Jesse Williams was great. He’s so damn hot and seeing him crying and so emotional over her just really got me.
I’m glad they didn’t kill her and hope they don’t. I hate sad and o just want her to be around as Harriet’s mom and maybe occasionally chatted about but not on the show. Can’t they just do that.
I had a few thoughts that maybe Matthew pushed her or tried to kill her or hurt her. I know it’s ridic but it crossed my mind.
