tgrimes I love your in laws. I try not to be a helicopter parent but now I have to follow Z around because she will go down the biggest slide and fall off it at the end if I don't catch her. O will then follow us around as well. I get so excited when he plays with other kids but sometimes he doesn't want to. Also, the older kids tend to be mean to younger kids. I've witnessed girls like 6 or 7 asking a group of kids if they can join in a game of tag and the kids will either say no or ignore them even though they are two feet away. I wish those parents were paying a little better attention so they can tell their kid to stop being such an asshole. Ass hole kids are why I'm a helicopter parent. And I go out of my way to tell parents of sweet/helpful older kids how nice they were.

N was playing at our park a couple of weeks ago when two little girls showed up with what seemed to be the one little girls mom and grandma. N was so excited "mommy look, friends are here!" He went over and said hi, they both ignored him. They ran off playing and he came to ask me why they didn't say hi... I didn't have an answer. He then tried to join them and as soon as he started to climb up the slide they were on they slid down and ran to the swings and asked why the baby kept trying to play with them. N was so upset I wanted to yell at them. I don't understand how parents can let their kids be so hurtful.
I'm very much not a helicopter parent but N always wants me right beside him while he plays, it's more annoying than anything.

I went over to the books/TV/blinds board to chat about OITNB but in reality I spent all my time reading threads about books. Give me all the books.
I just tried to read The Fault in our Stars. Hated it. Ditched it.
What's everyone here reading?

I helicopter because my kid wants me to be within arm's reach at all times. And I'm not talking about X.
I have never gotten involved with anything any other kids are doing unless they're harassing the geese or ducks, in which case I scold them.
Sometimes I get mean looks from their parents, but whatever. If you're following your kid around while they chase and attempt to kick birds and make no effort to stop them then you're an asshole.

I'm constantly saying 'everyone play nice' at the park, to my kid and everyone around my kid. Some kids are jerks, including mine, I shut that shit down quick. It's a public park, just play nicely TOGETHER. So us parents can sit down for a hot second.
What's that, helicopter? IDK.

To me being a helicopter parent is being right next to the kid and and hovering. Like their climbing the stairs and you're leaning in nervously in case they trip. I wouldn't classify someone with a baby or young toddler doing this as helicoptering but if your kid is four, I think he's got it.
