I don't beach. It's not really my thing. But thanks to DH's job we're going to be living walking distance (~1 mile) from a beach in a vacation town this summer, so I plan on taking advantage. What are the must haves? I'll have three kids between nb and 4, and figure I can pull a wagon and wear the baby on my front and a pack on my back to carry stuff.

Baby powder to get the sand off your skin. It's a miracle.

I would bring a jogging stroller to load up with gear and so a kid can nap in it if need be. Also if you can get one of those huge blue ikea bags they are the best for carrying toys, towels, etc. Just throw it in the stroller handle bar so you don't have to carry anything.
Besides lotion, towels, toys, etc there's not much else I can think of. But I'm also a beach minimalist.

Target has a bunch of beach and sand toys in their $1/$3 section. I just picked up some buckets, scoops, trucks etc. Ocean State Job Lot also has a ton of stuff if there is one by you. I picked up heavier plastic shovels and nets there the other day.
The wagon/cart is a great idea. I've used one for a few years and it's a lifesaver especially leaving when no one wants to carry out what they brought in. I'm usually solo with boys, so I really consider what I pack before I leave haha.
I have a huge cooler that I pack with snacks and lunch. The beach we go to has a bathroom and an overpriced snack shop. I also bought a large water cooler that I fill with ice and water for the day.
I usually keep a bottle of baby powder to sprinkle on them before wiping the sand off.
I had a small pop up tent I used when they were little little. It was helping for napping.
My kids (2.5 and 4.5 yrs old) are seriously just happy to push trucks through the sand, climb rocks, look for crabs etc.

We beach once a week or more but only recently moved here so I’m still perfecting what I need. I do love my thirty one large utility tote. I’m sure there are knock offs on amazon too. It holds everything without stuff getting buried deep in a bag.
Don’t think I’ve seen water shoes mentioned. My kid insists on walking the moment we hit the sand and it’s hot. She doesn’t actually wear them in the water but they protect her little toes from the heat.
Best part of beaching? Kids are exhausting and sleep well! I usually have to wake her from nap haha.

I don't know if this was mentioned, but bring an extra bag for wet towels, wet clothes, etc. That way you can store them separately and avoid getting everything else in the bag wet.

I have this beach tent and LOVE it. We live close to the beach and we go all the time in the summer. It was especially awesome with a newborn baby last summer. We would bring something for the baby to sleep in (like a Moses basket) plus a mini portable fan. When he was a little bigger we had a small bouncer for him to sit up in inside the tent. Plus the bigger kids liked getting out of the sun and eating snacks in the tent. Very easy to put up. It literally just pops up and anchors down and it’s easy to carry with the handles when it’s back in the package. I recommend cornstarch over baby powder.
Cheaper and less inhalation risk.
Also a beach pop-up tent thingy is a must. Lightspeed makes an easy up one you can get at Costco.

I've had my eye on this bag for a while- it's a mesh bag with an insulated cooler compartment on the bottom and it seems like it fits a lot

I like a cooler backpack. A wagon to drag all your crap and tired children.

Oh and make sure if you use a tent that it has UV protection...my NB got burnt on his face because I didn't realize that could happen with a beach umbrella.

Where do I find this magic?? Amazon. It’s called sand free or something. I don’t have one, but I’ve seen them in action. Huh. I have one of these. I didn't realize it was supposed to be special against sand. It is not from my experience, but it does dry super quick and it folds up really small which is nice. That beach wagon fills up fast.

I need to dissent and say absolutely do not bring a stroller to the beach. There are relatively cheap wagons you can collapse and once you take something to the beach, it's basically impossible to fully ever get sand out of it. Plus a stroller on the beach is hugely impractical. Yes. We live the wagon life. Pile in the kids and the shit and roll on over.

I also got a waterproof case when I went to Biloxi last but if you're in a pinch you can put your phone in a Ziploc baggie.
