I figured out why this kid doesn't want to sleep on his back in the PNP. He prefers to sleep on his belly, preferably on top of my chest or belly. 😴

Unexpected Solo dinner and bedtime again tonight😒 we had leftovers and I let dd eat the last of the ice cream because it’s garbage day tomorrow and I wanted it out of my freezer. She surprisingly went down pretty well! Im feeding O now and waiting for H to get home.

DD tried to blow raspberries back at DH and I last night when we were trying to give her a bath!! I was not expecting that so early. She's just shy of 6 weeks. But she was really working on it. So awesome. Does anyone give their babies probiotic drops? I'm thinking about doing the Gerber soothe probiotic plus vitamin d. I have to do the D anyway and was thinking maybe the probiotics would help her gas. Thoughts? I have and it’s made a lot of difference in gas. It could be placebo effect but I’ll take it

So I just had my 6 week post partum visit. Turns out I did have retained products of conception. So now I have to go for another ultrasound late today to see if they've passed. If my I have to take a medicine that will "make me cramp like the Dickens" so let's hope they've passed. My midwife was pissed as hell that the hospital I went to last week didn't do anything. Team your midwife. WTAF. A I’ll crossed my fingers everything had gone now. Sheesh.

Of course it’s the best nap he’s probably ever had. Of. Course.

I need Mh to get better ASAP. His cough keeps waking the baby and I just want her to sleep so I can.

I got my workout in and she got a nap.

whatsit and who was the genius who said 5hrs is STTN? I’ve gotten one 5hr stretch since he was born and sorry 9pm-2am does not feel like STTN, especially when I didn’t get him back down until 5am (when the girls decided a 6:15am wake up was happening).

So yesterday when I was driving, L was falling asleep in his car seat. As he was falling asleep, he would suddenly take in a sharp breath, throw his hands up, and make an upset/in pain sort of facial expression. It would last 1 second, then he’d go right back to sleep. He did is a couple times a minute for about 25 min until we got home and he woke up. It was like a startle, but much more intense. When he woke up, he was acting fine except for a weird hiccup/breathing thing, almost sounded like after you cry for a long time and and you still have that upset sniffle/breathing pattern, which he was doing once every couple minutes. He took his next nap in the swing and did the same thing, startling about once a minute the whole time he was asleep. Last nap was swaddled in the pnp and he still was drawing in a sharp breath and sort of jerking his body a little, although hands obviously weren’t flying up since he was swaddled.
I’ve seen him startle before and this just looks different, much more exaggerated. Plus I haven’t really seen him startle in a while, and definitely not while sleeping. We did stop by the pedi on our way home and she checked him out and couldn’t find anything wrong, but he was awake so she didn’t get to see what we were talking about. We have since gotten it on video.
Anyone have any ideas as to what this might be? Should I take him back to the pedi and show her the video? It’s got me really freaked out. I need to figure out how to post a video here. Anyone know how?

cornpop I’m sorry you have to deal with that. I’m glad your midwife is handling it now. @sweetc126 +1. 5 hours is a nice stretch but I definitely am not considering it STTN unless it’s light out when he wakes up. I wish babies could follow one of those “okay to wake” clocks.

clementine I have no idea what that could be. My only suggestion is the car seat made DD1’s reflux unbearable. She screamed and spit up every time she was in it. Maybe he was fighting gas or something? Did it happen at bedtime, not in a seat?

clementine I don't know what I would do honestly... Could you maybe send the video to your ped so you could show them without going in? I forget when the startle reflex goes away, I thought it went away really early with Em but Elle is still doing it at 6w. BTW, just to keep you all updated, the rest of my placenta passed since last Thursday!

clementine I would send the video to your pedi and and see if it happens again. It probably was just a troublesome gas bubble but better safe than sorry. So I went through our drive through bakery this morning coffee and a donut (and I wonder why I still weigh so much 🙄) after getting my grocery order. I eat my donut and look down and see a piece of donut/chocolate icing on my shorts and go to pick it up/eat it. IT WAS A FUCKING TINY SLUG. I wore these shorts for a bit yesterday while doing yard work and put them back on for DC drop off/errands. I’m going to go die now. It’s honestly worse than when I did this to DD1 once. Spoiler: it was chocolate.

Eeeek Leaf 🌱! I have something orange on the cardigan I’ve been wearing on and off for a couple of days. I think it might be poop 🙈

My post partum hair is soooooo dry. I need to find a conditioning mask or something because it gets worse😩 Ok, mine is wildly greasy all of a sudden. I used to be a 2x a week hair washer and I can hardly go two days now. But for dryness I really like the Amika Soulfood Mask. Sephora carries it.

Sent the video to the pedi and she said she didn’t see anything too concerning and to just keep monitoring. I think she thinks it’s just a regular startle, which I hope it is, it’s just different for him and kind of out of the blue.
He did do it when falling asleep last night, but didn’t do it for his first nap today. We’ll see how the rest of the day goes!

clementine E does something like what you described when she falls asleep on the boob. Her latch gets shallow but she's still suckling then startles awake and draws in a big gulp of air. She doesn't seem bothered by it and just koko afterwards.

I really want to get my hair cut. I’ve been getting lots of tangles and knots since I’ve had J. It doesn’t matter what conditioner or detangle sprays I use.
