Can someone please recommend me a nice (facial) sunscreen that I could buy online at Target or Ulta or Amazon if possible. I threw out my Biore watery one when I moved since I didn’t know if it was still effective anyway. I was going to order another one but there are a few reviews about receiving expired products so I thought I’d come here and check first. I like the A’Pieu pure block sunscreen. Price is similar to Biore, and you can find it on Amazon. Biore is still my go-to, but I understand not wanting to get an expired one. www.amazon.com/APIEU-BLOCK-Natural-Cream-SPF45/dp/B00J2Q5MSS/ref=mp_s_a_1_2?dchild=1&keywords=apieu+pure+block&qid=1619079786&sprefix=apieu+pure&sr=8-2I was also going to recommend Anessa as a good one that is available on Amazon, but man, it’s expensive in the USA. Definitely cheaper out here. That said, it’s a good one. Thank you! I will give it a try

4speedy Do you use Facebook? I'm part of a Korean beauty care group and they might be able to answer your question. It has 35k members and is called "Korean Beauty & Skincare". There is also a reddit sub called r/AsianBeauty if you don't want to do Facebook.

Has anyone done any 10 step Korean scalp care? I’m just now learning about it. I’ve been doing monthly scalp scaling for about 3 months now. I started with a professional scaling at a spa but have since bought some of the products to try at home. I also bought a package for a monthly scalp treatment/steam/massage at a salon. I had stopped dying my hair a year ago but I truly hated all the grey so I recently discovered what the women here use to keep their hair dark and shiny—squid ink. Obviously that only works for dark hair shades but I’ve gone back to my natural dark brown and I’ve been loving it. It only takes 5 minutes and there is zero fading so I haven’t had a root line in months. I’ve been using a henna and ginseng herbal pack for conditioning and a vinegar rinse for PH balance. There are a ton of serums and essences designed to keep the scalp moisturized available here so I am wondering if anyone else uses anything they like? I have quite a few samples of things, I’ll try to get a photo of them when I get home to show you all what I have found so far. Eta: I’ve also been saving our rice water to use as a rinse on my hair. I’ve noticed that that has really made my hair thicker and fuller over the last few months. I am 50 years old but I would say my hair now looks about like it did when I was 30ish. Anyone have some really good hair/scalp tricks? Tell me more. I am very intrigued about all of it. When you say rice water, do you mean the water you drain after rinsing rice? I usually put that on my potted plants, but my hair is feeling blah lately and I need a change. Do you apply the squid ink yourself? Did you do it over dyed hair? I have stopped highlighting my hair, but the ends have an ombre thing going on.

I’m happy to report that I’ve been using Cosrx’s advanced snail peptide eye cream, and I really like it so far. I’ve been using it for a week, and it’s got a nice, light texture - no irritation/itchy eyes, and no milia yet.
I ran out of the Innisfree green tea eye serum roller ball eye serum thing that I liked a lot, so I’m interested to see how Cosrx compares. I love snail, so I’m hoping the Cosrx can keep my eye area hydrated and keep fine lines at bay, like the Innisfree one did.

Any one have current sunscreen recs? The only thing about Asian sunscreens that I hate is that they reformulate so often and I feel like I have to sift through tons of reviews every 1-2 years. Looking for daily, facial sunscreen that plays well with make up and works for a tanner skin tone.
Just wondering if there are any new ones being are loving?

I forget - have we talked about Missha all around safe block Aqua sun gel? Lots of my friends over here swear by this one, and I actually can’t remember whether I’ve tried it or not. I’m tempted to order it in my next Jolse order, because it looks like it’s right up my alley. Fifty Shades of Snail likes it too. I can’t do sunscreen that’s too heavy or has ingredients which would clog my pores, which is always why I end up defaulting to boring biore. m.jolse.com/product/missha-all-around-safe-block-aqua-sun-gel-spf50-pa-50ml/14641/category/1/display/2/

Taitai, I’ve used that Missha one before. I liked it. It was super hard to get for awhile and I kind of forgot about it. I typically use Biore perfect milk, but it’s such a small tube even by Asian sunscreen standards. I like it a lot though. I don’t really need any new stuff, but trying out some new sunscreens will scratch my itch I think. I am liking a new product- innisfree youth enhancing serum with black tea. It’s a creamy serum that my skin is loving. It is giving me a glow and my skin and the formulation has a nice elegance to it. us.innisfree.com/products/youth-enhancing-serum

I am running out of the green tea seed serum, and I need a replacement. I am trying to stop with the expensive Estée Lauder and Sulwhasoo serums. I haven’t used any expensive ones for about 9 months, and I’m going to keep resisting 😂🤣

Hi! I just started with bettering my skin care. I’m 42 and my skin needs seem to be changing so I am starting fresh. Also I reduced alcohol consumption considerably in the past 6 weeks and my skin is so much less dry that I need to re figure out my skin type. I just did my first snail mask from Cosrx. It felt really nice on after being in the fridge. It wasn’t as slimy and or gross as I was expecting, it was definitely gooey, but I found it like an aloe Vera consistency just a bit looser. I was using redness reducing cleaner from clinique then ordinary buffet then Shea moisture coconut oil daily hydration lotion. Now it seems to be making me really oily in the t area and it looks like my pores are much more noticeable. So I’m using paulas choice hydrating gel cleaner then Klairs unscented toner and the shea moisturizer while I wait for my Cosrx snail 92 to come. I use a jade roller to roll my face after moisturizer. It’s soothing and I like it but haven’t done it long enough to see any difference (if I ever will). beesquared I was also interested in rice water for hair so I looked it up it seems to soak 1/2 cup rice in like two cuties of water for 20-30 min, stir here and there. Then use that water to rinse over your hair last step in the shower and let it sit a few min then rinse. And do it like twice a week. It’s supposed to have tons of benefits and one being it reduced breakage a lot so it’s thicker hair. I’m going to try it, I’ll report back if you’re still interested in it.

Welcome to the thread canteverremember! Yes, please report back about the rice water. Lord knows, I have an ample supply of rinse water I can use. I’m a big fan of azelaic acid for reducing the appearance of pores. The Ordinary makes a good, no frill version that is a staple of my skin care routine. Whenever I have tried something else, I always return to TO’s version and watch the magic happen. Coconut oil doesn’t work well for me, I prefer lighter weight products that sink into my skin. The exception is Cosrx 96 snail which does sit on my skin for a bit before it absorbs. I also love sleeping packs at night to help retain moisture since my skin does get dehydrated and I go hard on acids.

I used to use it but think I overdid it, now I’m using it only on nose and right next to it and right above eye brows for pores. It doesn’t do well with the rest of my face. I’ll try the azelaic acid. I love the ordinary. The coconut oil was the only thing that didn’t leave dry patches until my skin changed recently. Last night I used the Cosrx snail 92 all in one and it felt good so I didn’t use the coconut oil moisturerizer and this morning my skin feels super smooth no dryness it’s plump and even. My nose isn’t oily like it had been with the coconut. I want to try the watery essence sun screen but I keep seeing bad reviews on which year it was which version and I don’t know which version is the “good one”. I’ve got unseen sunscreen but usually in years pay have used a sunscreen powder since my face is usually so reactionary. I’ll report back about the rice water, beginning this week. I will do a few times a week. Why waste the water throwing it out! Thanks so much for your reply and welcome. I’m excited to love my skin again.

canteverremember Welcome! I’m so glad you liked the Cosrx snail 92 AIO, and I hope it keeps on doing the trick for you! In terms of sunscreen, I also found lots of consternation online regarding the different formulations for Biore UV Acqua Rich (if that’s the one you’re referring to), but I buy it all the time and I really didn’t notice much of a difference. Maybe I’m just not that observant. Good luck with the rice water rinsing! I’m curious to hear if you see a change too, because I could most definitely save rice water here for use during my shower.

I’m trying to catch up on this thread. Thanks for everyone’s recommendations. I’m 42. My skin used to be combination, but is now really dry. I have fine lines around my eyes, but otherwise pretty wrinkle free. My biggest concerns are the dryness, visible pores, dullness, and redness. I was using the Olay regenerist line, but I didn’t find it was doing much for me. I had some TJ maxx finds, and picked up some vitamin c serum, corsx toner, and Peter Thomas Roth glycolic moisturizer. The PTR moisturizer is amazing. A noticeable difference in one day. ETA: I’m going to try the rice water too. No shortage of that around here!

I had a question, which may seem silly. I tried looking it up online and I found myself more confused.
I was gifted snail moisturizer and lots of sheet masks. (It was in a care package) Having not tried snail anything before, I wasn't sure when to apply it, does it count as an essence, or an ampule? Is it a moisturizer? I'm using Curology as my treatment (thanks to the ladies in this thread) but while looking up where to apply the snail (cream?) I noticed that a lot of sites say that you wear your sheet masks after putting on your essence, ampules, and treatments. Did I miss this? (I was putting on a sheet mask after toner) Does it depend on the type sheet mask?
So Snail cream, before our after sheet mask? Sheet mask, before or after essence, ampules, and treatments?
Sorry if these are silly questions.

Sorry if these are silly questions. the snail moisturizer would just count as a moisturizer. so you'd put on your actives, and any hydrating toners/serums (if you want), then sheet mask, then after you're done with the sheet mask, put on moisturizer.
if i'm using a sheet mask i count that as my toner/serum, so i just sheet mask and then put on moisturizer (or even skip moisturizer if it's a very heavy/creamy sheet mask).
i find the chart here helpful:
basically, put on any actives first, then the rest of your stuff, lightest to heaviest.

Some reviews I've been meaning to leave here... Glow Recipe Watermelon Sleeping Mask-- Got a sample size of this in TJ Maxx. It's surprisingly occlusive and I liked the mild Jolly Rancher-esque scent. Too expensive to buy on the regular, though. I'm From Rice Toner-- Has a strange chemical scent. Does not seem moisturizing at all. Is it brightening, though? Not that I've noticed. Not a fan. I'm From Honey Mask-- This is nice-- very thick and a kind of perfumed honey scent and pretty moisturizing. It's sticky and messy, though, and I just am not finding very many times when I can have a full-on spa moment and just relax without kids clambering all over me. COSRX Hydrogel Very Simple Pack-- I got these to do DIY under-eye masks (they are circular and I cut them in half)... but I realized they contain some ingredient which provides a cooling sensation, so they're maybe not ideal for undereyes. they feel nice though. haven't tried them elsewhere on my face yet. Neogen Joan Day/Joan Night Cream-- this product made no sense to me. the day cream is a thick green tea cream, which developed an off, mildew-y scent after it was open for a few days. the night cream was light gel cream with a strong lavender scent. i ended up using the night cream during the day, and the day cream i was afraid to use on my face bc of the off smell, so i used it up on my legs. glad i got a super deal on this. blech. Neogen Rose Real Flower Cleansing Water-- micellar water with a fairly strong rose scent. found this at tj maxx for cheap but would not get it again. Banila Co Miss Flower and Mr. Honey Propolis Rejuvenating Ampoule-- this stuff is very nice. faint honey scent and very moisturizing. packaging it beautiful. i got it at marshalls's for $7.99 but the list price is $52!! so yeah i def would not pay full price. Mediheal NMF Intensive Hydrating Toner/Mediheal NMF Intensive Hydrating Cream-- mediheal was 40% off on amazon for black friday, so i got some good deals there. i liked these 2 products, but they had a sort of manly scent-- that kind of generic men's aftershave smell. i wish they were just unscented. Mediheal Hair Sheep Steam Pack-- these are masks for your hair-- a plastic shower-cap thing that's coated with treatment. they made my hair feel really nice and soft without being greasy. unfortunately the effect only lasts for about 2 days (i only wash my hair 2x a week). Biore J-Beauty Makeup Removing Cleansing Oil-- Amazon had this on sale a couple of times so I got 2 bottles. It's pretty decent. It has a light, fruity scent. I don't usually wear makeup, but I did one day recently and used this on my eyes to take it off-- maybe I was too aggressive with it, but my eyes got kinda red and irritated afterwards. but for just taking off sunscreen it's been fine for me. i also tried a sample size of the paula's choice 2% BHA and it did absolutely nothing. bummed. thought it might help with milia/blackheads/breakouts in general. also bummed in general because all-day mask wearing for work for many months has not been kind to my skin. i've had trouble on and off with breakouts on my chin where it contacts the mask, plus the moisture level of just having it on all day i think contributes to the hormonal acne i tend to get on my chin during my cycle... i feel like i can't gauge that well how things work because my skin is in this stressed state all the time.

Ugh. Yes to the mask breakouts vvvvvfee. I’m lucky to be at home with only short mask wearing trips. I had to fly cross country earlier this summer and my upper lip/chin freaked out after wearing one for longer time periods. I’m sure the travel dehydration didn’t help either. It took me about three weeks to get it back to normal. I haven’t tried anything new outside of working through my sheet mask stash. None of them have stood out one way or the other. I’m almost out of a couple of my staples. Of course I need to stock up right as back to school shopping is happening 💸

vvvvvfee Thanks for sharing all those reviews! I’ve always wanted to try the glow recipe watermelon mask, but I’d heard it was overpriced. So jealous that you found it at such a discount! Interesting about the Neogen stuff too - I like their cleansing sticks and exfoliating pads, but I’d never tried their other stuff. This summer has been kind of crazy for me with travel to the USA and a really busy schedule visiting with friends and family all the time. I was so exhausted each night, that I just stuck to my regular routine and couldn’t really get out anywhere to try new things. I did have a few favorite products waiting for me in the USA, like the Cosrx low PH face wash, a Laneige lip mask set, and some beauty of joseon dynasty cream. So, I was happy to pick that up! Oh, and some bombee honey face masks, which I love. Now I’m back in Asia and I’ll probably put in another Jolse order soon. So happy I have that option now!

I hope it's okay if I join in here. I have just recently started a skin care routine and I am enjoying learning about all of it. I don't have strictly asian skincare products, but some. I also went to the dermatologist for the first time a couple months ago and got started on some prescriptions.
I have a couple of questions. First, I use Clindamycin lotion on my face in the morning and I'm not sure where to put it in my routine. I currently wash, toner, niacinamide serum, snail cream, Clindamycin, moisturize and then sunscreen.
Second, I am currently using tretinoin 0.025% and I seem to be tolerating it just fine, should I ask my doctor to bump up the percentage?
Third, does anyone know anything about the belif bergamot herbal extract toner? Would it be considered a hydrating toner?

In terms of your questions - is your clindamycin a prescription medication? If so, you should probably put it earlier in your routine, which in your routine would be after your toners and tretinoin. Below link has more details: www.fanserviced-b.com/a-visual-guide-to-the-korean-skincare-routine/As for your Tret prescription, how long have you been on it? A few weeks? Months? If it’s been months and you are doing fine, then you might want to ask about increasing - if you think it would be helpful. Just be careful to not over do it….watch closely for signs of peeling, redness, breakouts caused by over-exfoliation, etc. On the belif toner - I’m no help there. I looked at the ingredients, and I don’t see any AHA or BHA in there, so I think it’s probably a hydrating one.

Honestly I don't really know what it's supposed to do... But the dermatologist prescribed it so I use it. I don't love the texture and feel and I wonder if some of my other products might be doing the same thing it is supposed to be doing (which I think is antibacterial)but better formulated. I have been on this level of tretinoin since late May, so about 2.5 months and my tube is close to empty so I was thinking of having the doctor bump it up. The belif toner was a gift that I never opened and when I actually started a routine I just put it in there to be used. I like it well enough but I am open to a different hydrating toner once this runs out.

I think if your tube is almost out of the tret, you could ask the doctor to give you a little higher of a concentration when you get your refill. Just watch for signs that it’s too much! I have had so many problems with over-doing it on retinols, so that also probably has an impact on why i’m in the more cautious camp. The clindamycin is for anti-bacterial purposes, and basically helps prevent bacteria from causing acne. It can help soothe/reduce inflammation in acne too. If you don’t like it, you could always stop using it for a week or two and see if there is any difference (increased acne, more red/swollen spots). I feel like if it was prescribed, that you should stick with the doctor’s advice. Good luck on your Tret refill! Let us know how it goes!

I am back home and happy to be out of a 2 week mandatory arrival hotel quarantine! While I was putting away some stuff I picked up in the USA, I discovered a bunch of travel sized skincare items that I forgot I had! Mostly from Sulwhasoo, the History of Whoo, Murad, and Laneige. Will let you all know what I think of these things as I try them.
The last few nights I’ve been using the grapefruit lip sleeping pack by Laneige, and it’s really delightful. I know that aquaphor works basically just as well, but the user experience is a lot nicer with Laneige - love the scent (and results in the morning).
I also tried this occlusive sleeping mask from The History of Whoo that looked like a yellowish balm - there was no label on the mini pot, so I thiiiiiink it was a sleeping mask. Has that History of Whoo old lady herbal/perfume smell, which honestly has grown on me. Hope it doesn’t break me out!

PSA - Jolse is having a sale through August 24th where many Cosrx products are 50% off. Other good deals to be had as well. I picked up the following:
-Cosrx Snail 96 for $10 -Cosrx Snail 92 AIO for $13 -Cosrx Refresh AHA/BHA Vitamin C Daily Toner 150ml for $10 -TIAM C Source C20 for $9 -Purito Centella Unscented Serum for $13
The 96 snail and the C20 are the cheapest I’ve seen them, so I stocked up!

So I gave up on the rice water for the hair because honestly I will say it made it softer and more manageable but I only used it about three times because I’d forget to prepare it and I’d be about to hop in the shower and it was too late to go back and make it (it sits for like 25 min before using). So if I had a huge bottle in the shower made up already I can see it working.
I basically have the same skin routine of HadaLabo Hydrating face wash the Dear, Klairs supple prep unscented toner, then Cosrx 96 snail Essence (I had the 92 gel cream at first but love this much better, the gel was way stickier). Then daytime it’s oil of Olay sensitive moisturizer with spf 15 then supergoop unseen 40 spf. Night I use hadalabo moisturizer I put on with wet hands it needs the moisture and it’s fantastic.
A few times a week I put Paulas choice bha on my t zone and it’s been fantastic.
I did try Olay Regenerist Retinol 24 undcented but within like three nights I was breaking out and didn’t notice any good parts so I stopped.
I started a few weeks ago a Rimmel lash growth serum and I think I notice a bit longer and more lashes so I will keep using it. I also have a speedy oil cleanser for night to get sunscreen and any make up off.
I use a Cosrx snail mask every other week or so and have snail eye patches. I also put them on the line next to the mouth.

canteverremember and 4speedy - Thanks for your updates about the rice water hair rinse! Well, maybe now I have to try it. We always eat rice over here, and we always wash the rice before we put it in the rice cooker. I’ll see if I can remember to save that and keep it near my shower. If it works on my hair, I would love to reduce how many protein treatments I get at the salon! Will let you all know if I can get my act together to try it consistently.

Has anyone tried any products with centella? It seems to be the new thing to try, so I picked up a Purito non-scented centella serum from Jolse. I got it for only like $13 during that recent sale Jolse had, which I think is a pretty good price for a serum. I have been using it for a few days, and I really like it so far! Nice texture, absorbs well, and no reaction on my skin. It is truly unscented, which I don’t particularly care about, but may be a perk for some. This is replacing the green tea seed serum I was using from Innisfree- will see if I can tell a difference. m.jolse.com/product/purito-centella-unscented-serum-60ml/24430/

TaitaiSince you were asking about centella, I thought you might be interested in this. I picked it up at the Mothership today so I’m not even sure if it is on sale yet. I’ve got six samples of it so I’ll report back in a couple of weeks. Attachment Deleted

I also do regular rice water rinses as a protein treatment. When my curly/wavy hair feels limp and like it’s lacking structure, I just take the rinsed rice water from my fridge and pour it on in the shower, leave it for a few minutes and rinse it out and deep condition. I can feel the difference immediately, it works better for my hair than protein mask products that I’ve used. I think I’ll do it tomorrow now that I’m thinking of it.
