This will be a P&R.
H and I are buying a house (holy cow!), and it has ugly, small, bright blue accent tiles in the kitchen. The other tiles are a Santa Fe style orange. H and I want to cover up the blue, but we aren't sure what color to use. We are planning on painting the kitchen a tan color. The cabinets are an ugly brown color, and I would love to paint them antique white (off-white). What the heck color do we paint the blue tiles? I will try to add a pic later of the blue and orange tiles. Thanks!

Like. Not floor tile, right? And ripping them out is NOT an option?

Like. Not floor tile, right? And ripping them out is NOT an option? Yeah, floor tile. Sorry, I forgot to specify that! We will rip them out...one day. It probably won't happen for several (5?) years though until we do a full kitchen remodel. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

What color are the counter tops? And floor?
ETA: I need pics because the blue and orange is confusing me!

Hm, I need to see pics!
I don't know how well tile paint holds up on floors. I've seen it done on backsplashes, but I don't think I know anyone who has tried it on a floor.

Ok. Here's a pic of basically what this kitchen looks like (the orange and blue tiles). Sorry if this is huge. I'm mobile. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Since it's flooring, you might need to buy the stuff they sell to paint/stain garage floors. Wall tile would be easier, I'm like bonzo, I'm not sure how well floor tile will hold up painted. But, if the orange and blue is on the floor, and not blue on floor orange on walls (like I had imagined) lol I think I would try to do a gray color. But, I love gray.

Yeah, I'm skeptical about painting floor tile. Looking at the picture, are those ceramic tiles wth grout, or are they like linoleum sheet tiles? If they are the latter, I talked to DH, and he suggested putting down a primer coat and then laying groutable adhesive vinyl tiles. With grout and the tiles, we redid the floor of our bathroom for about $65 - I'll try to dig up a picture. You could probably put vinyl tiles over that for under $200, and it's pretty easy to do yourself. I think it would hold up much better than painted tile.

Hm....and you just want to paint the blue ones and leave the orange? What about a cream with subtle orange undertones? That could help lighten it, especially since you want to paint the cabinets off-white. It might be hard to find a good tan to go with those tiles, I'd recommend looking at some colors more in the "griege" family so that you don't end up too brown.

Here's the vinyl tile we put in our bathroom (sorry for the mid-remodel photo). It's held up very well since we redid it in 2013. ETA: These tiles were literally peel and stick adhesive tiles that you can cut with a utility knife. Just get the little tile spacers, stick them down, and then grout them like normal tile.

The floor tiles aren't level (they're made that way!). I don't think we can put anything over top of it. I don't think tile paint will last very long. So, I guess we're just stuck with it until we remodel. They're tiles with grout daisy818. Your floor remodel looks great! I will look into garage paint/stain amberr. I hadn't thought of that! I agree with you on gray. I think that would look pretty. bonzo I would ideally like to paint over or change/remove the orange tiles. The blue is way more NMS than the orange, and is the priority to change. I can deal with the orange for now if we can't paint over it. I think the cream/greige is a good idea!
