It’s probably not a great thing that I’m already thinking “boo, a Delores episode”, but here we are. I’m not really interested in her this season although I loved getting a picture of what the outside world looks like, a clear answer on the purpose of the park, and more of William’s pathology.
I missed Maeve this episode. And Bernard.
Present day William stuff is still meh for me too.
So what’s the deal with the younger Delos? After he was sent off naked into the desert and older Delos was saying stuff about how “no one talk to me that way anymore” and sort of talking about his son’s investments in the past tense, I was thinking he actually died in the park. But then he was there at the retirement party, just bitter and on drugs.

Older one is obviously sick and near death at the retirement party. I think this is the hint of what the mentioned in the first season about saving someone's life. The company is researching a cure for a disease. And I have a bad feeling all of the dead bodies in the water are aftermath of the battle they are gearing up to fight. Which would make sense why the guys on the beach are so confused.

I am going to participate but let me say this first. I watch this shit and don't know what the fuck is going on half the time.
I have to look at online episode reviews to see what I missed and shit.
So, I say all of that to say - bear with me.

I am enjoying the old William storyline though.

I think I'm mostly in this for the old William story line. That's kept my interest the whole time, although I feel like I've been watching him do the same thing since season 1 episode 1. He's rescued that same guy about a half a million times.

Ok, I watched and then read summaries.
So the parks were built to gain information on and about the guests. This must be how William became so rich and powerful.
Delores and William are going to the same place to get the same thing? The Valley? Is the weapon information?

Opening it could explain the random ocean that popped up in episode 1.

I totally though the preview scenes of Dolores in fancy clothes were from the future, so that was an unexpected and nice surprise that it was actually in flashback.
It was also cool to see Jimmi Simpson (William) evolve into Ed Harris (mib). His whole cadance and bearing changed in his last scene with Dolores under the park. It was really well done.
Do we think they are engineering parts and organs for humans to extend their lives? Young Delos said something like, May your forever be brief, at the retirement party. And it seemed that his father was suffereing from some type of disease and William implied that it might not be the end for him after all. Could that also be the work that made a guest thank the MiB in the park last season for saving one of his family member's life?

I clearly have to watch the episodes over cause I miss shit.

Yes, I think Delos has created something close to immortality. Both from what they said this most recent episode about the technology not coming in time to help old Delos, and from past conversations the humans have had about curing any disease and whatnot. They also have the hidden side of the business, which involves at least blackmail and maybe other shit too (cloning?).

The cynical side of me wonders about the blackmail stuff though. Like ok, you have video of a rich guy raping in Westworld. People blow off rich guys raping actual humans in our current society. Would they really care about them raping robots that were specifically built and marketed to be used and abused?

Also you’d think word would get around the rich and elite communities really fast. Hey, don’t go to WW they are taping all the shitty things the park is specifically encouraging you to do.

Every time Dolores and Bernard have a heart to heart, I get annoyed. It just feels like filler. It annoyed me last season, also.

I'm so confused. The back and forth is so frequent its almost overwhelming. You guys seem to know what's going on so I'm going to read.

I think this episode had- a flashback to before the opening of the park, when Arnold and ford were searching for investors. A flashback to after the park was open and after Williams first trip to WW, where he’s encouraging Delos senior to continue to invest. A flashback to later on when Delos senior is going to retire and William is married and has a kid. A flashback to William taunting Dolores and then showing her “the weapon”. Other events shown take place in the almost present, about two weeks before Bernard washing up on the beach.

Word for word what my H said after we got done watching plus "I have no idea what I just watched" lol It didn't help that I couldn't remember that the man in black is William. I kept making guesses that it was Logan and that Robert Ford was William, and then I realized no, I just have a bad memory, all of this was already answered. I do not however remember how Robert Ford is tied in with the story. What is back story is with coming on board. Have they gone over this already? whhhhhhhhaaaat In my digging I found West World Wiki. I am a newb and didn't know this was a thing. westworld.wikia.com/wiki/Robert_Ford

I was actually just wondering if we were going to learn more about that this season.

We know that Ford activated the Wyatt story in Dolores right before she shot him, right?
We know currentWilliam does not like Ford. They seem to be enemies, or at least Ford is trying to influence how William’s journey to wherever (still The Maze?) plays out. Right?
And Ford must have activated this whole rebellion story in all the other hosts, right? Dolores didn’t do anything to make that other blonde woman follow her, I don’t think.
And we know (or presume, I guess), that Dolores ends up killing like every living thing in that valley by opening/destroying a dam or something.
Just trying to make sure I at least have all the puzzle pieces turned over, haha.

Ford and Arnold were the original creators of Westworld. They made the hosts and the park. The park wasn’t making money so they needed to bring in investors. Arnold didn’t like the idea. He had come to prefer the hosts over humans. Ford ended up regretting bringing on the investors (Delos/the board) as well, and as they were forcing him out he set up these various plots to destroy the board and Delos and maybe free the hosts.

DH came to me with his theory for this season and I really hope he's not right. Spoiled for those who don't want to know. He believes that the Man In Black is also a recreated host, like Bernard/Arnold. I don't like this idea.
And that the host battle will come down to two sides led by Maeve and Dolores.

And that the host battle will come down to two sides led by Maeve and Dolores. Does he have any evidence for that? I can’t think of any. I heard a new one on deciding Westworld today that I could see happening. the “Bernard” that washes up on the beach is actually Dolores. Because that Bernard doesn’t have a scar on his head from his leaky brain. And because they made such a point of showing how their brain eggs work.
