I see all you guys are starting with Clomid. I'm curious as to why my RE wants me to go straight to Femara instead of starting with Clomid. I am no expert but I was told on another board (GD) that Femera has less chances of multiples and about the same results as clomid for most people, I think it's preferred over Clomid by many docs now. I also read Clomid is more effective for PCOS so I'm guessing that's why my doc is leaning towards that one, but I won't know for sure until my appointment. I've heard Clomid is cheaper so I was kind of annoyed I have to go straight to Femara, but that makes sense! Ty!

You save a lot in the long run by not having multiples tho 😝 jk, I would actually love twins! I can only do one more pregnancy physically but my heart has room for two more kids, easy!

I see all you guys are starting with Clomid. I'm curious as to why my RE wants me to go straight to Femara instead of starting with Clomid. Some studies show Femara has possibly a slightly higher success rate but my RE said that overall they are very similar. Some insurance won’t cover Femara because is isn’t actually approved for fertility treatments (it’s a cancer drug). I think REs are using Femara more these days because a lot of their patients report less side effects (and Clomid can thin you uterine lining). However, one might work for you while the other doesn’t. Oh and there was a study or two that showed a slight link between Clomid and ovarian/uterine cancer.

My Femara was covered by our prescription insurance so t only cost me like $2.50

Tlex I swear there have been so many announcements this week over here too! One of my really good friends announced she was having a third and I sent her a congrats text and told her we are trying too and opened up about my losses. She was so sweet and encouraging and said all the right things. That doesn't happen very often. I usually get the "just relax" comment so it was nice to tell someone who didn't make me regret opening up about it.

I see all you guys are starting with Clomid. I'm curious as to why my RE wants me to go straight to Femara instead of starting with Clomid. We went straight to Femara. For me, I ovulate on my own, so the thought was that Femara might help me O earlier than usual (which is around CD 20) and maybe with multiple follicles for a better chance of a quality egg being released. For cases like mine, there tend to be fewer side effects with Femara over Clomid.

What is Clomid for? Getting you to ovulate? The TL;DR is yes. It makes your body produce LSH and FSH, leading to ovulation. Coupled with an HCG trigger shot, you can better control when ovulation happens. In my case, in months when I do ovulate, it typically isn’t until CD 19-27. And CD21+ is more common. And then my LP is 7-10 ish days. So, the thought is that timing clomid + trigger shot + progesterone can push my ovulation closer to CD 14 and extend my LP to a more normal 12-14 days. And hopefully lead to pregnancy.

Thank you for explaining!

What is Clomid for? Getting you to ovulate? Clomid and Femara do basically the same thing: Get you to O, get you to make multiple follicles [eggs] instead of just one, and possibly improve egg quality [growing bigger follicles]. For example, for me, the hope was Femara would give me multiple follicles so there are more targets for the sperm (I only had 1 this cycle though), therefore more chances to getting pregnant each cycle.

sammysam (because you usually start these) and everyone else! Idea: I know this thread (TFAS) is usually the busiest/the only one we post in what are people's thoughts about making it more inclusive? It's a small group so I think 1 main check-in thread is the best way to keep up with everyone but maybe we could just call it a TTC check-in and put a disclaimer that it's a thread for everyone so there might me LCs or losses mentioned without TWs.
Thoughts?

Thoughts? The more the merrier? Just set expectations up front what is and isn’t cool (kind of like in how TTCAL there is a warning about spoilering stuff and not mentioning living children). Just curious... is TFAS really the main/only active TTC/TTGP thread on HIH?

There is always TTCAL thread but most of us just post on TFAS, there are only a few people on TTCAL that aren't also TFAS. They've all been invited over but I think we might get more participation if we don't actually call it TFAS, KWIM? ETA: but that's my opinion, if other's disagree than feel free to tell me I'm crazy

I know I'm pretty new here but I would be fine with combining the threads! I think setting a few basic guidelines like spoilering living children and losses and it will work fine for everyone.

charliefox I totally agree! I was actually thinking about this recently. I'll start calling the thread TTC. Actually, I'll start it now (post it now) and then you guys can tell me what I need to add/delete/change. Just post in this thread and tag me with anything else you think we need to put in the disclaimer. I'll get to it right now. ETA can we just put a disclaimer saying that all are welcome and people will be free to post about LC, losses, IF etc so just to let everyone know up front that it will be like an uncensored type place to vent about TTC?

Also throwing another idea out there, if we get increased activity by combining the threads maybe we could start doing smaller daily threads instead of the longer weekly ones?

Would it be ok to just TW? We've all been discussing our losses, IF struggles and LC for months on here. I also don't want to make this more constrained and less open for people who have been on here for a long time. Thoughts?

We used to have WTO, TWW, and TFAS in the old places. I'm not sure we have enough activity for that many yet (it's only started to pick up on here recently) but it could be something we go back to if we get more people?

Yes I agree we would need a little more activity before starting those threads up again. Maybe give it a couple of weeks and see how it goes with combing the threads? I was also kind of just thinking about maybe a Monday thread or something for every day of the week and then a weekend thread? Maybe eventually.

I feel like talking about it helps so I would kind of like to keep the discussions as free and open as possible.

I put in the disclaimer that there will be talk of LC, losses and IF and if any of these bother people they can post it and we can add trigger warnings as required. I don't want us to censor ourselves if we don't need to.
