I wonder what Kate would have named her kids if she had just married a regular shmoe. She seems like the type who would stick to traditional English names. Probably Michael, James, John, etc.

I sent a text to my mom when I saw the announcement and her reply was "seriously? Yuck." But this is the woman whose suggestions to me when I was pregnant with DD were "Timber" and "Everson" and something I can't remember that ended in -leigh. I gave DD a decidedly English name, even though I couldn't get H to budge on his veto of Pippa. MH also wouldn’t consider Pippa. Losers. It's the second best name in my opinion (DD's name -Freya- is the best, obviously). I'm still not sure why he was cool with Freya but Pippa was just highly offensive.

My kid’s name is Louis so I’m just in here noting who said what like: Same. My Louis is pronounced Louie and we tend to call him Lou.

I was going to call her Elle. I was so sure about the name. Then I found out we were having a boy. I couldn't figure out a name for him until he was almost 2 days old.

Did you guys have Phillippa on your list, or just the NN Pippa? Just Pippa for me. I hate nicknames, so I would probably just name her what I wanted to call her. But that's just my own personal weirdness.

I feel like it was weird MH vetoed anything because his baby name choices were popular 70s and 80s names. Or like plays on his mom's name. No thank you. Just let me choose.

MH literally didn't care what names I picked as long as they weren't some off the wall names. My taste is very traditional English so I pretty much had free reign.

Did you guys have Phillippa on your list, or just the NN Pippa? I wanted Philippa. I would have settled for Pippa straight up. I even tried to slide in Penelope so I could attempt to swing Pippa out of that. Maybe he'll let me name our next dog Pippa 😂 I'm very happy with the name we picked though, because if ever there was a Freya in this world, my daughter fits the name to a t.

This baby is going to be Jane Lourdes, but if I had another girl, I would for sure use Eleanor or Leonor.

Before George was born they changed the laws of succession so it wasn’t sexist anymore. So if George had been a girl he could have been Queen.

MH literally didn't care what names I picked as long as they weren't some off the wall names. My taste is very traditional English so I pretty much had free reign. Pretty much every boy name I gave as an option for vetoed. Even trying to come up with DS1’s middle name was a challenge. We’re screwed if we have a third, and it’s a boy. I obviously like names that have been around forever, but with a traditionally Irish last name that’s constantly swapped for a popular fast food restaurant name because the first three letters are the same, it can be a challenge for him to agree. MIL wanted us to use Joseph (FIL’s name). I shot that down so fast...

All of the names I liked were vetoed. He has this family tradition of men naming the children so he gave me the choice of Sage, Rosemary or Juniper. He was pulling for Rosemary. I picked Sage.
I had a hard and fast rule of no naming after a family member. He kept trying to pull family names and I would fire back with my great aunt’s name... Fairy. He stopped after a while.
Though he still regrets not going with Maude for my ggma who was called by some as Maude the Magnificent.

I had a hard and fast rule of no naming after a family member. I have the same rule. Too many ways to offend my easily offended family 🙄. DDs middle name is a simple name (because her first name is so strong), and it COULD be seen as a nick name for my great aunts name. My great aunt I've met twice, and both times when I was under 5, so it's not like we are BFFs. My grandma was still offended we "named DD after" her sister. My sister's DD has my dad's middle name, and my mom is still hurt that none of the grandchildren have HER middle name. I just can't with my family sometimes.
