I'm a new home owner and new to having a yard after decades of apartment living. I'm super pumped to garden (I'm starting small) and would like to start composting.
I have the basics down (layering green and brown, etc) but deciding what type of bin to use is overwhelming me. There are so many and a lot of differing opinions!
I'm not sure about making my own. I don't have access to free scrap wood and by the time I buy materials it seems just as expensive as buying a ready to go bin. Do I want a static one or a tumbling one? What's a good size? These questions are leading me down a google rabbit hole.
Right now I just have some perennial beds but I'd like to start vegetable gardening (although we have a ton of deer so we will see).
Help me!

I have 2 black plastic bins - one is active (I’m adding material to it), and one is sitting there composting. I check them every now and then for moisture content and add a little water if needed. I stir up the sitting bin with a flat blade pitch fork occasionally to see how far along it is. When it’s ready I pick up the bin and shovel the compost into a wheel barrow to take it to the garden.
I am lazy and this takes longer to get compost, but it takes the least amount of effort.

Ooh I wanna play! I don't actually know much about composting other than what I've googled this past week but I'm excited to start. I just got this bin at Walmart though it was $69 last week. It has 2 chambers. Someone on another thread recommended putting scraps in a paper bag in the freezer until you take it out to the bin, think I'll try that. I would love any other recommendations too. www.walmart.com/ip/YIMBY-IM4000-Dual-Chamber-Tumbling-Composter/20964928

Oh the scraps in the freezer is such a smart idea too! I think I'm just going to get a plain ol' static bin without the fancy tumbling. I like the idea of looking for a two-chamber one.

We built a two compartment bin thing out of pallets. One is active and one is composting. It seems to be going well so far!

I keep a plastic bowl on the counter to toss egg shells, tea bags (I cut the string where it is stapled to the bag to keep the staples out), and veggie scraps in during the week. Typically, I prep veggies for the week on Sunday and that fills my bowl so I take it out. H puts the egg shells in throughout the week when he makes his breakfast. We use one side to add and let the other break down. We also have a pile of manure just kinda piled up doing it’s own thing too. lol
