Our new house has this weird area: For some reason, it only wants to post sideways. DS to scale or maybe just because I couldn't get him out of the way. PDQ. We've always assumed that we'd stick a bar or a buffet there, but I'm not sure what to put there that would match between the two different wood grains of the floor and the cabinets. The same cabinets are in the kitchen, which are just to the right of the sliding doors (not pictured). The other wrinkle is that DS is standing on the A/C vent, which probably shouldn't be covered by anything solid. The budget is secondary at this point. If I can find something I love that works perfectly, I'll either convince myself it's worth the money or I can use it as inspiration to find something more practically priced. Any ideas?

Also brux, I tried a reverse image search and it didn't show up with anything that I could link back to my actual house. If I just didn't live up to your dark web basement filler status, please let me know so I can poof the pic.

I would probably put a painted hutch that fjts your color scheme. Is it in your kitchen or off your kitchen? Do you need more storage or just decorative?

We have a black buffet table in our dinning room with similar table color as your cabinets. I like that mix.

jubilantsquirrel, a console table did not occur to me. Home decorator, I am not. @kokopelli do you have a link to that one?

@k3am, what are you thinking you'll use that space for? Are you looking for extra storage or just something to fill the space?

We had a space like that with a desk in our old house. A navy or gray desk?

I honestly might take out those cabinets and find something cool that I liked to put there like an awesome bar or console table.

I would also remove it if you can and then do a buffet or console.

I would probably go white. And either a buffet to make a beverage station, or a simple desk.

I think a console table would be overwhelmed by the cabinets above because of their size. I'd do a proper buffet/side table, in either a navy or black, depending on your color scheme.

What would you put in the existing cabinet? I would remove it.
As a fellow mama with a toddler who thought having a bar in a living space could work, please let me save you the time and trouble and tell you it will. not. Work.
After removing the cabinet i would make that wall the designated toy storage area.

What did they have before? The placement to me does call for a desk. Are the cabinets custom? If not we were able to match our old island to our cabinetry by calling the manufacturer. I remember they had some regular furniture in the line too

We honestly need the cupboard space. Although the house is MUCH bigger than what we have now, the kitchen and cupboard space is less.
We are thinking we’ll put our bar ware and wine glasses in there on the bottom shelf and serving plates, etc in the top.

We don’t know what they had there before. When they listed it, the under space was empty.

Lurker here, but I think that space looks like they had a desk/small home officey space.

Can you take those cabinets down and paint them to match a desk?

I would live in the space before taking anything like that out. See how your workflow is. I moved my kitchen around a couple of times the first year till I got it just right.

Can you take those cabinets down and paint them to match a desk? DH isn’t handy at all and I don’t have the time/energy/desire to try. I’ve been at this point of life long enough to admit it, sadly.
