I love Angus, but that's not particularly helpful!

Heres my boy list after going through the whole baby name wizard book: Dean Cooper Angus Argus Arlo Milo Miles Tobias Titus Niles Viggo Zeke Nico Desmond Dimitri Matthias Rocco I don't love any of them, but they could work. Cooper and Miles are too popular and my husband doesn't like Argus, Angus, or Rocco but I might still try to get him on board. I need to narrow down a little more and then let him pick a winner. Anyone care to help me narrow? Tobias and Desmond are my favorites by far! I like Matthias, but would be worried it would immediately get shortened to Matt - not a bad name, but super common. I also like Zeke and Nico as nicknames but would want a longer name as the given name. Milo is cute but very similar to the popular Mila, again only a bad thing since you don’t want something popular.

Anyone care to help me narrow? I like Milo, Tobias, Titus, Desmond, and Matthias. I would just nix the two that are too popular and the three YH doesn't like. Unless you love one of the three he doesn't like. That will narrow it further and it's still a decent list. Angus and Rocco are two of my favorites. But I should just nix them since he really doesmt like them. If Cooper wasn't so popular that would be the name. But I just can't get past the popularity.

I love Angus, but that's not particularly helpful! It's one of my favorites, especially for the nickname Gus. I wish MH would just give in. But he associates it with cows/beef. 😭

Nico and Zeke are okay for me as is. I don't like any of the longer options and I'm not one to name a kid something I won't use.

Thanks for the feedback everyone. I've narrowed to
Arlo Angus (I can't stop trying, I just love it) Milo Tobias Titus Viggo Desmond Nico
Dean is on the yes list and is the back up name if I can't find anything better. MH already agreed to it, but I can't commit 100% for several reasons.
I haven't talked to MH about them, but my plan is to let him pick his fav and then I'll pick mine and we'll decide for sure after baby is here.

I seriously give up. He said he hates all of them. I'm sure I'm overreacting but I'm sitting here crying. He can't be serious and help pick a name and just makes fun of all the ones I suggest. His only suggestions are not real suggestions, like Nemo or Steve, or he suggests our sons name. I'm beyond tired of having this conversation.

I totally get the frustration with the joking suggestions. MH is like that and it drives me nuts.

We have to come up with 4 names this time and we can't agree to anything. I told him he needs to have a serious conversation with me later about names and he said he would, but I don't have my hopes up tbh.

My husband’s suggestions today were Nettie Yeti and Gina Giant (Wallykazam, if you’re not familiar). I don’t understand why this isn’t a serious topic for them.

We had a couple of arguments about names early on and we decided to shelve the conversation for awhile so that we could each think about it. But if it was up to me we would have had this kid named months ago. So I get the frustration.

I think It partly has to do with nothing is changing for them yet and so there is no sense of urgency to get ready. Meanwhile, we’re over here with all the changes, all the hormones, all the nesting urges, feeling the baby get bigger and bigger by the minute and know that 8 weeks isn’t nearly as long as it seems.

I think imapenguin hit the nail on the head. Plus I think that culturally most women grew up thinking about and talking about baby names alot and men can sometimes feel overwhelmed and intimidated by the task (which is sort of monumental if you really think about it - a name should be chosen carefully!). My H was also so NOT helpful with names for DS1 and I was a good 30 weeks before he would do anything other than casually brush off the topic. This time around it was much easier because he was still sort of excited from the first round of name-picking and we had a leftover short list that neither of us had vetoed the first time. That didn't stop him from making a few ridiculous suggestions, however...

We are naming a human, it's not funny dudes! I told DD I guess our name for a boy is Nemo Steve. She suggested Dory Bob for a girl.

He doesn't look online or in books. Most of our conversations about names are me saying "how about x name?" And him saying no.

I think you are 100% correct. He feels like we have tons of time where I feel like we are quickly running out of time!

My conversation would go like this: "If you are not going to have a serious conversation about this, I will name the baby without your input, you lose veto power" I have said that exact sentence and he says "That's fine as long as it's not dumb." But calls 90% of the names I suggest dumb. 🙄 BUT he was serious with me and we have it narrowed down to 5 names and decided to wait until baby is here to decide on a final name. So, I'm counting that as a win.

My conversation would go like this: "If you are not going to have a serious conversation about this, I will name the baby without your input, you lose veto power" This was my conversation with my husband, he wised up quickly when I showed him my running list of names for our daughter and knew I was serious and stubborn enough to pick a name without him and stick with it. If he had kept up the funny act, our daughter would be named Olympia and I would have zero regrets. Fortunately her actual name suits her too.
