I'm currently applying to a permanent part time position at one of my current jobs, where I am currently on call temporary. I've been working here for almost three years. I know that the application goes to the County first, then the Library Director and then to my current branch manager.
So, I've applied to other jobs and used my current branch manager as a reference, because I've worked here for three years, it really is my first professional experience.
I need to have three professional references...can I put my current boss down as a reference for a job where she'll still be my boss?

I would choose someone else since she will be contacted either way as your current supervisor. You can but then it would look like you couldn't come up with anyone else IMO.

Bummer. Ok. I haven't worked anywhere else in a long time. I'm going to have to dig deep for a professional reference.

Is there any other colleagues you can use, rather than a supervisor? I have done that before.

I re-read the job description and this position is very customer service based in all the questions, so I'm going to use my current supervisor for my other job and a former restaurant supervisor.
Without getting too J-nerd on the subject, I'm applying for this one, because it's open now...but my current boss knows that if a full time at the other place opens up, I'll be applying for that too and possibly leaving if I get this part time. It's a mindfuck, but also a small town and an even smaller industry.
