I am obsessed.
It's called "Where Should We Begin" with Esther Perel.

I feel like this will result in my yelling at my phone in the car to people who can’t hear me.
But I’m in

YESSSS!! I've been listening. So fascinating. Sometimes I have to turn it off though because it's just so real I almost feel uncomfortable listening to it!

Yes sometimes I'm like whew I need a decompression session myself that was heavy, but other times it's so uplifting to realize we all have these patterns and they can be relearned, changed, and renegotiated with both our own selves and within our relationships. Sometimes I'm listening and I'm like oh that is exactly how [random person] fights! And other times I'm listening and I'm like eeeep that's me... I do that.

I always come away like "damn I need to get me some therapy"

It's called "Where Should We Begin" with Esther Perel. my hair colorist recommended this to me. I listened to one full episode - an Indian couple where the wife had blocks up where she had a hard time being a wife/mother/sexual being. I stopped listening because I wasn't in love.

Oh, I think I also listened to one episode where the foreign-born younger wife had an affair and it was her older husband trashing around with how it impacted his world.

I think that one wast the toughest to listen to. First one and it essentially blamed the wife for her husband’s affair. Mostly what I took away from listening is that there are so many issues at all stages of relationships but a good therapist can lead you out of the woods and not necessarily together.

There’s one this season of a guy who has had dramatic medical problems and you start off there but end somewhere else entirely. That one was crazy. I was so glad when Esther did a follow up.

Hmm maybe I will re-listen to that one as I didn't have the same take away but often get distracted while listening. I recall Esther being really sensitive to the wife's issues.

I listened to 90% of that one this morning and also did not have that takeaway.

Oh, interesting. Every other episode I thought was two sided and nuanced. But that one - particularly as it was first - did not sit well with me. I felt like the wife’s behavior was made the scapegoat for the husband’s affair. But perhaps I heard what I wanted to hear.
