Grrr! I went back and bought the whale lamp but the damn lamp shade is so low to the base that the tiniest light bulb I could find doesn't fit. Why would you manufacture a lamp that doesn't fit a light bulb?!

The clip that holds the lamp shade to the base won't clip because it won't fit on top of the light bulb (so like the lamp shade is directly touching the light bulb and it still won't clip).

I would be so irritated! We have these tiny little bulbs from Ikea for our bedroom lamps, but the bulb base size is much smaller than normal too.

The lamp is so cute, maybe you can find a replacement shade that works with the base so you can still use it. So frustrating though!!

Last night I learned more about lamps, lamp shades, and lamp shade connectors (there are 4 main ways to connect a lampshade to a lamp) than I really want to know. Haha I'm looking at options right now and can hopefully find a cheap way to make it work.

And we're thinking of looking for a lighting fixture that looks like a nod towards the Citadel chandelier / opening credits thing: So remember how I said we were thinking of using the Citadel chandelier (also the spinning thing seen in the opening credits in my picture above) as the inspiration for the ceiling light in DS's new room? Well I could use some opinions. This light is the one we came across that first made us think it would be cool to use the chandelier as inspiration. I don't like the chrome finish but MH says we could probably paint it. My one hold up is that DS isn't going to want a Game of Thrones room forever. I just happened to come across this light below when I was trying to find the one above again. It's already brushed nickel which is my ideal color, so I was wondering if you thought it pulled in enough of the Citadel chandelier vibe. I feel like it may be a better option long term, even though the first might match the chandelier better. Any thoughts?

I like the second one better and think it will be more versatile for if you ever change the theme.

Nymeria oh dang that's tough!! I agree with brenna that the second option is probably more adaptable long term... BUT that first one is pretty perfect for your theme!! I bet you could even give it a "brushed" look rather easily with some jeweler buffing material or a super-super-fine sandpaper. Possibly even a very light coating of frosted glass spray, depending on if that can be applied so close to something that will get that warm. The fully exposed bulb will give off a strong, bright light. Perhaps check and see if it can be installed with a dimmer to remedy that (a dimmer switch is super easy to install if you're not afraid to mess with electricals 😉 But it will also depend on the type of bulb you use in the fixture - I don't think those fancy, visible lighting element bulbs can go on a dimmer). Is it stupidly expensive to change it out down the road?! I'm so reasonable 😂 Haha!

I'm also the mom that will have elephant and giraffe sheets (reusing from dd) in my baby's ocean themed room so maybe don't listen to me... 😊

tbirdlove - I was a bit worried about the exposed bulb too, especially because it mentions industrial bulb sold separately so that would be annoying if it only takes specific bulbs. This on is actually compatible with dimmer switches (both lights are) and we're definitely putting one in no matter what fixture we end up with. MH did one for DS's current room and I love having that function. I mentioned replacing the light whenever DS wanted to pick his own room stuff, and MH was a hard no on that. Which is what got me looking for something less theme specific in the first place. I just can't decide if I would regret going for something not as similar to the Citadel, or if I'd regret going so specific a few years down the road. I'm terrible at picking things from pictures anyway!!

But you might be better off with a more "plain" candelabra style bulb though that would give more "normal" lighting. I tried a fixture with those exposed element bulbs and the light it gave off was pretty orange-y. Bummer that YH is being so sensible and putting his foot down on not changing the fixture later 🤣 You could order it and see how you feel about it in person before you commit. Maybe it'll be too small or too this or too that.

Especially since the 2nd one is over half-off right now! I'll be headed home shortly so I'll see what MH thinks of that 2nd one I found today.

I just taped off the freshly finished floors so MH can prime and paint the baseboards while DD and me are out of town this weekend. Then it's just walls and decorating! We need a new ceiling fan too so we might pick that up tomorrow.

MH doesn't realize how quickly time goes by. His aunt reminded him that she gave birth to her first at 26 weeks and that I'm father than that now so he should get moving! Lol

Now when retailers don't sell all of their products in store, I find myself having to do this frequently. It's inconvenient and I feel bad returning stuff, but when you can't see it in person in store I guess that's what happens!

They're both from Wayfair so I have no way to look at them in person otherwise. We already took trips to Home Depot and Lowes hoping to find something in person but no luck.

We've recently been talking a little more about the baby's bedding and slight "theme" for the room his crib will be in. Part of me likes the black and white theme and the other part of me wants to do Fall theme and colors or Halloween stuff. I know it wouldn't technically "go" all year long but we are the weirdos that keep Halloween decor out all year long and have a house full of oddities and weird shit anyway. 🤷♀️ But at least we have some ideas!

Our "nursery" is still a computer room. I really need to get moving with it! Mine is still a guest room! I have so much stuff for the nursery but I can't do anything with it cause there's still a queen sized bed in there! I was on my game choosing stuff, but our execution is rather slow 😄

I ordered the second, not as theme specific light. MH liked it and I couldn't get the worry out of my head that the first option was too specific and I wouldn't like it long term. Plus now I don't need to worry about painting chrome since I like the brushed nickel look the second one already comes in.

I saw the stuff you posted a little later but it's a totally cute idea for a room.

Ok! Mountain mural draft time! Give me your thoughts! The room I'm working with is the 1st photo. The mountains will go on the wall behind the crib and chair and possibly wrap around beside/under the window. The 2nd photo is the general color scheme - shades of grey with teal. The teal fabric in the photo is for the drapery panels. The 3rd photo is what I have drawn up so far. I don't have any colored pencils so the blue mountains would actually be teal! My biggest question is if the teal mountains look silly? Should I just take them out completely and do only two shades of grey? Or perhaps make them a third shade of grey? I like the idea of pulling the teal color into the wall, but I don't know if it will make it too, I don't know, unrealistic/cutesy?

tbirdlove - I might leave the teal mountains out at the beginning. On paper the extra mountains seem a bit busy to me, but I'm not the best at projecting pictures to real life designs. Could you paint all the gray ones then see how you like it for real up on the wall? Decide from there if you want to add the teal ones or not?

Nymeria I had considered painting just the gray first and deciding from there. But I really like the idea of having the teal in there somehow! So I'll see how it's looking as I get going. I have to remind myself too that the furniture is going to cover a lot of it.

Hm. I just thought of an idea - I could do the very top section above the mountains teal? That could maybe be an option too 🤔
