We're not sure what we're doing yet. We have a 3 bedroom house - our master, DS's nursery which is the smallest bedroom and right next to our master, then the 3rd bedroom. Either we leave DS where he is and make the 3rd room DS2's nursery or we redo the 3rd room for DS and put DS2 in the current nursery.
I feel like it makes sense to have the youngest closer to our bedroom since generally DS is a good sleeper, but I love his room and feel bad kicking him out of it already, even though the only change we would make would be to replace his name on the wall with DS2's name.

I've fallen down the nursery theme rabbit hole (again...) today!! I CAN'T WAIT to get started 😆
I was gonna go much more simple this time than I did for DS's room because I felt like I wouldn't have the time to commit to the kind of "mural" wall painting and detail I did in there. But the bug has struck hard today and I WANT a darn mountain range mural wall!!! It shouldn't be TOO difficult....

How far is the 3rd bedroom? If it's on the opposite side of the house or on a different level, then I'd probably move DS1.... even though I would feel bad about it too! 🙁 Although, DS1 may enjoy having the bigger bedroom to play as he gets older! But if the 3rd room is near enough than I would still consider using it for DS2. All our bedrooms are close together and DS has the second biggest room now. I don't want to move him to a smaller room 😕 So I guess poor #2 gets the little room! (The smaller room was originally going to be DS's nursery because the doorway is right across the hall. But I ended up not liking that it was smaller and felt cramped when I was measuring the space furniture would take up. So I went with the bigger room that's next to ours, but the doorway is farther. Still not sure how I'm gonna cram furniture in the smaller room!)

Still not sure how I'm gonna cram furniture in the smaller room!) It's down a short hallway as opposed to sharing a wall so not much further away. But if we turn the currently empty room into DS2's nursery, we would have space to put a single bed in there for me which could be useful at the beginning. I feel bad that either kid is going to be stuck with the smaller room so I almost feel like DS should get the bigger room because he's older, but obviously there's no right answer. Maybe in a few years both boys will share the bigger room and we'll do a guest room or office in the smallest room, but while they're still young with different sleeping habits I prefer to keep them separate.

I think we are going to keep DD in her current room and put new baby in the room right next to hers. They are both across the house from the master and baby will probably sleep in it's room from pretty much the beginning (I kicked DD out of our room after a week because she was so loud in her sleep!) We are trying to decide if we should move all the gender neutral jungle animal themed stuff from dd's room to the new baby's room and get her new stuff or leave it and get the new baby stuff. DD loves her room and I don't want to change it too much for her. Every night she points to the three animals above her crib and makes the animal noises (it's super cute!) So I don't want to take that away.
Does anybody have any cute gender neutral themes that aren't jungle animals?

So far, I don't have any plans to make a "nursery". We may give the baby the spare room, but even if we do, it most likely will just be a "spare room" with no theme. Well, I guess it's technically a music theme since that's where we keep SO's drums, guitar and memorabilia. DD didn't have a theme because we were in a one bedroom apartment. We kind of had stuff that was owl themed in her crib and I painted an owl picture. Once we moved we kept the owl theme and added barnyard decals and then it turned into a space theme. We still rent so we are limited. Maybe you guys will inspire me to actually try to do something. I'm excited to hear what's the new cool theme.

brenna I'm working with the same theme situation! I need something gender neutral and DS also has jungle animals 😊 I love animal stuff so I'm thinking woodland animals and an outdoorsy Adventure Awaits theme this time. I've also liked the grey and white sheep stuff, but it's always seemed a little more "girly" to me somehow. Chevron with grey and teal works. I saw some cute hot air balloon stuff on Pinterest today with a cloudy sky wall! Oh, and cute rain clouds and mountains!

I'm struggling with what I want to do. I can't decide between a very pale blue or very pale green or a pale teal. I don't particularly care for animals or characters either. DD's room was pale purple with multiple color accents. I'd like to do the same thing for DS but I don't know what. It'll probably take forever for me to figure it out lol

I’m waiting to know the sex before we decide who gets what room. Right now, DD’s room is gender neutral (fox theme) and our guest room is painted pale purple. If new babe is a boy, I’ll put him in the fox room and move DD into the purple room and make it a sheep theme (she loves baa baas). If new babe is a girl we’ll leave DD in her current room and put new baby in the purple room, theme TBD.
For those looking for gender neutral nursery theme ideas, I have seen gorgeous nurseries in a twinkle twinkle little star theme. Think navy walls, gold accents, so so pretty. If I felt motivated to start all over I would do this in a heartbeat.

I've seen a few people do the cactus theme and that's pretty cute and gender neutral.

This baby will not have a nursery. She will sleep in our room for quite a while until we decide how to switch up the playroom and boys room. This will likely scandalize my mother. Lol, oh well.

Here are my current inspirations!! The top two squares-of-four are bedding sets. I'm leaning towards the top left because I think it brings in more color options to play with throughout the rest of the room, and because it has the cute woodland animals. But the top right has more coordinating pieces available, so I wouldn't have to search for curtains and other matching decor pieces.... I think it limits the color palette more though. Bottom left square has some mountain mural ideas, and the bottom right square has the three crib choices I'm considering. Just looking at this "collage" makes me feel happy!! 😊

tbirdlove - I really like both of those themes! IDK if I'd worry too much about matching curtains etc. being the deciding factor because you can probably always find nice solid colors to coordinate well.

Definitely not a deciding factor, but it is convenient 😉 Haha! I'm really crushing on that top left though.... I think that having to look elsewhere for finishing touches might add a little more individuality to it all. It can't be difficult to buy fabric and a make a couple curtain panels!! I don't mind a little DIY!

I think we’re going loosely for a airplane/adventure theme. We need to repaint, and we’re thinking about a light green color. Since it is a TINY room and we have to cram two cribs (albeit mini ones) in there, I’m mostly just focused on finding a floor plan that allows us to fit everything in and still have room to move around.

We’re doing a nautical/under the sea theme for DS. The room is already blue so we are leaving it that color. Going to use the furniture (crib, changing table, rocking chair) from DD’s room and buy her new furniture. The room is currently being used as an office/guest room so we’ve been slowing cleaning it out the last few weekends. I’m just ready for the fun part to start!

Resurrecting this thread since I'm starting to finally think about the nursery. I found this lamp at hobby lobby and I think I can make it work in a gender neutral ocean/under the sea themed room. Now just to design the rest of the room...

We did a nautical theme for S, brenna,. So that's what new baby is getting too by default. It turned out really really cute!

We decided to move DS into the last bedroom which is bigger than the current nursery, and continue to use his room as the nursery for the new LO. The only change we'll have to make to the current nursery is to remove or replace the name vinyl on the wall. DS's new bedroom has been used for storage basically and hasn't been touched since we moved in so it needs some updating to match what we've done to the rest of the house. Design-wise it is going to be a Game of Thrones inspired room. Inspired, not totally themed, considering the nature of the show. So far I've bought the fabric below for crib sheets and a changing pad cover (I don't know how to do it, someone on Etsy does it for me) We will be using House Stark colors for paint colors. And I will probably get some coordinating 3D dragons for the wall: And we're thinking of looking for a lighting fixture that looks like a nod towards the Citadel chandelier / opening credits thing: Plus possibly an Iron Throne vinyl for the wall behind his crib.
