So, I had Kyleena placed about two months ago (2/23). I've had a non-stop period since 3/6. The provider won't do a placement check if I'm actively bleeding, so that's a no go. I guess I'm wondering if anyone else has had experience with this. My experience here is a little clouded bc the provider hugged me and apologized for hurting me after she did the placement, and now basically won't see me. Is this normal (not the provider thing, I know that's weird as shit) or should I be concerned?

That one has progesterone, right? Progesterone-only bcp made me bleed all. the. time. Is it spotting or a heavy flow? Are you in pain?

Did your provider explain why she wouldn’t do a check if you were bleeding? Is there a medical reason for her stance? I would be concerned in your situation.

Not consistently in pain, but cramping that feels more like contractions that I have to breathe through fairly frequently.
It does have progesterone.
No reason for it specifically just that she won't do it.

Also, the bleeding ebbs and flows, but I've required a pad constantly since 3/6

I can’t speak to the pain, but this is what progesterone-only bcp did to me: ebb and flow bleeding all month long. It sucked. I bailed on it eventually.
You may even out over time. ] The pain troubles me, though. I’d contact again and ask what level of pain is normal.

I would go see another doctor.
eta After her weird behavior I think it's time to see a new one

The placement check is an ultrasound, so I'm not sure why bleeding would matter. Maybe the bleeding means that it could shift more, rendering the check useless? I would ask why.

I got mine checked just out of paranoia of movement, not even pain/ bleeding and they scheduled me in no problem. So I'm in favor of a new doc for you. Sorry, mine is Mirena so I don't know how those products differ but I had spotting for a good month or two.
ETA: my check was not an ultrasound

I’ve had several IUDs and the bleeding isn’t out of the ordinary, it’s still pretty recent if an insertion in terms of the bleeding but the pain concerns me. I don’t think you should be having pain you have to breathe through. I’m on my 4th IUD and apart from insertion pain for a day or two I’ve never had to deal with constant contraction like pain like what you’re describing. I would insist on a placement check. I’m sorry you’re dealing with this. And if this dr won’t do it then find another one.

Actually now that I think of it, they did schedule me for a placement check 6 weeks after insertion. So, that plus the time I was paranoid it's been checked twice in 15 months. OP harass them for a check or go elsewhere.

I had bleeding/spotting and cramping for almost 3 months after insertion. I would think it's gone and then, nope, back again.
My doc had me come back at 6 weeks to check placement. I think you need to call and ask for an appointment.

My doctor preferred doing placement - under ultrasound guidance - while I had my period. So I can’t think of a good reason for the provider not to see you because of bleeding. Time for a new doctor.

I am on my second iud. The first I had bleeding and spotting on and off for 12 weeks. I have had this one for 6 weeks and so far it’s the same. After that I only spotted once a month for three days. Your Dr should absolutely give you a placement check ultrasound.

I’m on my third IUD- with the first one (pre-baby) my cramps were like you described every single period. I almost blacked out with pain the week after insertion a few times. It wasn’t pleasant, but got better after the first week and eventually became period only ridiculous cramping.
Granted, I do the non hormone ones so some salt is needed

Thanks for the advice, everyone. I'm going to call and push the follow up issue and if this practice won't do it, I'll call the midwife who delivered DD and I know she'll do it. It would mean a long ass drive, but worth it for the peace of mind.

The bleeding seems normal but the pain does not. Absolutely get it checked. I had a ton of pain and my doctor sort of brushed it off as normal but when I insisted she did a check and there was an issue. My check was just her looking feeling for it then she sent me for an internal ultrasound.
