easternshoregirl we tried the zen sleep sack when we transitioned out of themerlin with DD and I found it useless. So did you go regular swaddle to merlin to zen? And all was well until the zen? Just trying to plan my escape from the swaddle! And the rnp. Pretty much. We were only in the zen fro a few days and then I went to a quilted sleep sack an she's still in it at almost 3! flippinchica benandjerrys thanks for those tips! Right now I can’t set her in the RnP and rock it (because we don’t have an automatic one) 🙄 and she fusses, but will fall asleep pretty quickly. We’ve had some success with her falling asleep on her own in there (without rocking) and twice in the crib. But it’s not consistent. I guess I’ll just keep at it. I just know at 14 weeks today, I’d like to start the transition to sleeping unswaddled and in the crib, and falling asleep on her own. I feel like falling asleep on her own would make all the other transitions easier though right? I should try to tackle that first? She still spits up a considerable amount and also has quite the cold at the moment, so I’m not planning to go hard core on crib sleeping. I would tackle falling asleep on her own first.

I thought sleep training wasn't recommended until 6 mos? Have the guidelines changed? I think it’s still 6mo but people also mean different things when they say sleep training. I’d say we “sleep trained” DD at 2 months because for us that meant letting her fuss a little (even maybe cry for a minute or two) after laying her down. So sleep training as far as establishing routines & trying sleepy but awake...I think anytime. But CIO etc I think you need to wait until 6mo or so.

I feel like falling asleep on her own is key to mama sanity and everything else follows. But that is my personality. Hell no to laying down with my 5 yo to fall asleep. But I have friends that do that or nurse toddlers to sleep and it's fine for them. But it's not for me. Twins. I am not about that life. I also never nursed DD to sleep & have done my best not to with DS too (other than MOTN feeds). I need to be able to put the kid down & walk away lol. So far so good haha

We sort of sleep trained DD but she loved sleep so it wasn’t a huge deal. What we did with her was set a timer for 5, 7, 10, etc. went in at each interval & soothed her. It didn’t take more than 3 or 4 times the first night & I think she was settling herself by the 3rd or 4th night. DS is even more of a unicorn, since about 6-8 weeks I’ve been able to lay him down awake & walk out. He just goes to sleep on his own. Eat-play-sleep is my mantra...I’m convinced that’s why he sleeps so well & I don’t have to nurse to sleep.

dragonflyinn I’ve done eat play sleep with all four from about two weeks on and they all (until baby four) suck at sleeping, and falling asleep on their own. 🤷🏼♀️

I think it has so much to do with the baby ajetter,! I tried eat play sleep with #1 and no way. He nursed to sleep for naps at home until I nap trained him at 10 months. Naps at day care were baaaad. #2 is all about falling asleep on her own so far :knocksonwood: and eat play sleep is working well! Or even if she wants to nurse before a nap because she needs a snack, she doesn't necessarily fall asleep and then I just put her in the swing awake and she's good. I honestly keep telling DH "she is doing it. she is going to sleep on her own." and he is probably getting annoyed with me but I just can't believe it still.

Dumb question- when you said you went in to DD at different intervals, are you referring to setting a timer for 5, 7, 9, etc... minutes? Was she crying a lot? Fussy?

easternshoregirl I can’t shut up about my baby sleeping through the night. I seriously sleep so much better now than when I was pregnant. I’m not holding my breath that we will make it out of the 4 month sleep regression unscathed, but for now I’m fully celebrating the only decent sleeper I’ve ever had. 😂 I will say the only thing I did differently this time around was stop waking her at night before my pedi okayed it. The first three gained a fair amount of weight and were shit sleepers. She maintained her discharge weight at our first appointment so I was like hell no, I’m letting that kid sleep at night.

Yes so we started with 5 minutes and then the second interval was 7, the. 9, etc. I can’t remember exactly but yes it was intervals of minutes. She cried for maybe the first two minutes but then settled down & sort of fussed herself to sleep. The timer helped bc it always felt like it had been longer than it actually was.

Joining in late to the convo. Sorry!
With DS1 we attempted sleep training at about 8 months and DS screamed nonstop for 3+ hours each wake up and on the 5th night he started banging his head on the crib and had bruises on his poor head. We stopped the sleep training at that point and saw the pedi. The pedi recommended to stop and try again in a little while so we tried again at 12 months and it worked in about 3 days.
With DS2 he is only waking up once to eat and then going back to sleep. Sometimes one other wake up for a paci pop. I'm not bothered by it, especially at this age. I'm hoping we don't have to do CIO for the baby. It was a horrible experience for me and H and I fought about it since I didn't want to try it the second time around after the head banging.
I hear DS2's little tummy growl as I feed him in the MOTN so I know he's hungry. I guess at 6 months I may think about it but I'd rather wake up with him than hear him scream at this point.
Baby is still in the RnP in my room and I'm not looking to move him any time soon since it is so convenient.

I'll need to set an alarm! Thanks!
I'm going to see what my ped says about the reflux. I might need to reconfigure our room and move the PnP in there if reflux is still a thing. Last night she woke up gurgling choking on reflux so I'm of course terrified to not have her by my side.
