Tanning is such an easy thing to just...not do. Like, don’t substantially increase your chances of skin cancer when you can just...not do it. Get a spray tan, FFS. or be like me and just get used to the not so infrequent remarks about the paleness of your skin and wow I can see so many veins in your legs! Yup, that's me. I used to get told I need to tan and I would just say I prefer to be pale over having skin cancer. Maybe I think it's cool you can see my veins, how about that.

@chair www.skincancer.org/skin-cancer-information/ask-the-experts/can-a-tanning-bed-safely-provide-me-vitamin-d"A tanning bed will never provide you with the vitamin D that you need, nor is it safer than tanning outdoors. Not understanding the facts can literally mean the difference between life and death. Both ultraviolet A (UVA) and ultraviolet B (UVB) radiation cause cell damage that can lead to skin cancer. When you lie in an indoor tanning bed, you are exposed primarily to UVA, which penetrates deep into the surface of the skin, damaging the cells beneath and prematurely aging your skin. But it is UVB (the sun burning rays) — not UVA — which helps the skin make vitamin D, so you are increasing your risk of skin cancer without receiving any benefit!"

We are watching Peppa Pig and I'm pretty sure this show is one giant troll. Wtf is even going on? Why is the airplane pilot named emergency? Is everyone high? Just wait until your kid starts making her toys "go on holiday" and it becomes super adorable. Or "go play in the garden"....Peppa is my favorite cartoon she watches. lol

I have an unopened bottle of 10,000 iu vitamin D I can give you for free, @chair I take 50,000 IU once a week. The tanning is just short term. With long term consequences. Drink some milk. They have sunscreen with vitamin d in it as well.

It's not solved by tanning either, but people are sometimes prescribed UV Therapy (in medical supervision) in addition to supplements. It takes at least 3 months to restore Vit D levels once they are below the standard level. So, you know...chill out.

I tanned once before prom. Yes, 18 year old me thought that was needed. 🙄 Did you have a lot of white friends who suggested this?

I’m having a shower beer.
I totally went home with the cash drawer keys in my pocket because we have a silly new policy about them not being left anywhere (like the combo locked box) and having to be ON a person at all times...I am not the first person this week to do so.
I had to take DD with me, which was kind of cool for her though. We got some solo time and she got to pick a few new books to read.

If @chair has been prescribed tanning in a tanning bed by her doctor then so be it, but I don't think that's the case. I can only answer to what I've gathered from her post.

With long term consequences. Drink some milk. They have sunscreen with vitamin d in it as well. Oh please. Tanning for a few months isn’t going to hurt anything. Of all the cancer causing crap I could be doing, this isn’t that big of a deal. One burn from the sun is more likely to be a problem. I’m a healthy person and take care of myself. Getting flamed for tanning a few months to help increase my vitamin D is seriously OTT. Uh. Please speak to your doctor or even try a google search.

I just had an exterior painter come to measure and do a bid. He's sending me the quote later this week but I freaking loved him and his kid, and he's painting my aunt's house so if the price is right.
About to pick up the boy then it's tortas and wine and the fella coming over after friend time later. Boozeday tuesday.

Today’s swim lesson was marginally better for DS. I bribed him with jellybeans and he wore his goggles. Didn’t stop him from screaming the whole time, but baby steps. I was explaining to the instructor that the goggles aren’t medically necessary, they’re solely to protect the prosthetic. So, if it pops out it’s contained in the google. She was horrified at the prospect. I dropped ds2 off at preschool and told him to call me if his tube falls out. They were surprised they didn't need to do much else

I look back at teen/early 20’s me and am horrified at how much time I spent in a tanning bed. Working for dermatologists and MOHS surgeons really changed my outlook. I saw a lot of young women in their 20’s and 30’s come though with skin cancer and some with fatal melanoma. I’m extra cautious now and I honestly think tanning beds should be illegal.

The last time I used a tanning bed I was 16. I burned my ass and the next took the ferry with my dad, his new girlfriend and my new boyfriend to a Giants game.
Torture. It was fucking torturous.

The three large scars on my back from having moles DUG out of my back (because the shave biopsy wasn’t enough) are a nice reminder to not ever go to a tanning salon.

I was pretty bummed to hear Harry Andersson died yesterday. I really loved Night Court. Seems like celebrities always die in waves.

I have a childhood friend who was a slave to the tanning salon. She had to have a melanoma removed at age 24.
