DD1 was all "Mom! The aliens are coming!" I jokingly responded that maybe that's why Independence Day and Signs have been playing so much on tv lately.
Child was not amused.

I vote hoax. The Malaysian Air connection was just too convenient, and everything else seems easily debunked or lacking in evidence. And I love conspiracy theories.
ETA: ok, I kept reading and the “warnings” about how we are destroying our planet read straight out of a bad sci fi novel.
