I've been thinking, if enough of us are interested, we could do a play by post campaign. I mostly do pathfinder, but I'm not opposed to learning a new system if I can access the source material easily. Anyone up for it?

I would love to do this, but I don't think I have the time to devote to a weekly campaign. I've never actually played a campaign through though...every time my gaming group tries to start one it fizzles out after about the third get together.

auri, I feel you on the time thing. Play-by-post is a little different than a weekly sit down and game. I will confess I've never done it myself, but MH is in one right now. You have a time frame for when you are supposed to respond with what your character is doing. It's fairly slow paced in that regards. Here's a description of how one would sort of work: geekdad.com/2017/02/play-by-post-gaming/

Oh! I might be interested! I usually play Pathfinder, as well. But I've also played 3.5 and Exalted. I'll have to read that link. I've never played like this before.

I do the Pathfinder card game. I haven't done much tabletop RPG gaming, but I like the idea of a play-by-post. Some of my problem getting into it IRL is the speed when playing with a group that really knows what they're doing. It looks like this would give me more time to read, think and plan.

MH is dying to start a D&D or pathfinder campaign and he has literally gotten no one to join. Sorry if that comes off as creepy lol.

Looks like we have a decent amount of interest. If people want, i can try running a campaign. We have the materials for Rise of the Runelords for Pathfinder. I also have pdfs of the core books if people need them.

I can set up a Dropbox account to share them. The files are a little large for email.

DD (she's 3) got into my bag of dice yesterday and told me a D20 was an octagon. I wasn't sure to agree with her since it does kinda look like one, or correct her since it has more than 8 sides.

I've set up a dropbox account which currently has the core rulebook and a copy of a character sheet in it. Once I get access to MH's stuff, I can add a little more. Just pm me and I'll send the account info.

So do I need to read the whole book? What do I do now? No. Nobody has time for that. It's too much info anyways. Basically, you need to figure out how to build a character. I'd read through the first couple chapters. The first one (Getting Started) gives a quick and dirty overview of the system. Then you get to races and classes. Before you start building, you need to decide what sort of character you want to play. Do you want brute strength? Skills? Magic? That sort of thing. Reading over the different classes will help you decide what you like. It's slightly daunting the first time. DH usually suggests first timers start with a human fighter, because they are the least complicated characters to build. But I jumped right in with a half-elven sorcerer, so it's up to personal opinion really. That said, I'd stick to the first three chapters to sort of familiarize yourself with the rules for character building and decide what you want to play. I'll help with building the character when you get there. At least as much as I can. That said, we generally do a 20 point buy when it comes to ability scores. That's on pg 16. You get 20 points to allocate between your six ability stats. The higher the score, the more points it takes. And the abilities you need are dependent on what your character is supposed to do.

I just posted the Runelords thread with character creation information. Let me know if you want the Dropbox account information.
