Do we have any early talkers? What was their first word? What are they saying now? What are they getting close to saying? Any signers?

J says dada a lot but not noticeably specifically referring to dad yet. I think he’s really close and I’m sure that’ll be his first word. One time he woke up in the MOTN hysterically yelling DADA DADA!!! and I was like “I guess he wants you, H”. 😂
He’s starting to mimic words and he’s pretty good at saying “blub blub blub”. It’s pretty cute.

I get “yeah” and “nah.” Lots of babble. It’s completely different than DS1 who didn’t do that until after 18 months.
Both my boys know/knew “more more” and “all done” in baby sign language

He signs “nurse” all the fucking time that I’m not sure he knows what it means.
H was making elephant sounds and he was trying to mimic it. 😂

Oh God, this stresses me out so much since DS1 is severely speech delayed.
DS2 babbles a ton. He says "da" a lot but it's not in reference to anything, just a fun sound to make. He started making an "n" sound today so it sounded like he was telling me "nah" all day. So funny.
But for real, if he has the same issues that DS1 has I'm going to lose my mind. Who knew milestones could be so stressful?!

Just a lot of babbling really at 10.5m. I’m not sure if she really gets what she’s saying yet. She says a lot of dadda, momma, and baba. I think she calls DS1 “baba”. She nods her head yes and no which is hilarious. Again...I don’t know if she fully gets what she’s doing, but she does it after we ask her questions lol.

babystandish J just started shaking his head no a couple weeks ago and it’s hilarious. H had mixed up a bunch of snacks into a container and he would shake his head no when we offered him Cheerios or Puffs and would only take the Creamies. I offered him so many Cheerios and Puffs to see him shake his head and he was so annoyed! 😂

lupincat I feel the same way with speech. All I know is what being severely delayed looks like, and I really don’t remember when he started to show his delay because he was mostly “normal” at one. I’m going to go crazy if we’re heading down the same path again

At her one year appointment, she was only saying yeah and dog. I had to convince DH she was saying dog - she skips the g. But she'll say dog when we point at dogs and ask, "What's that?" To my ear it is distinct from dada and from the babble d- noises - I've spent a lot of time working on speech/phonemic awareness with kids, so I think that's why I hear it and DH is less sure.
At 13 months, she's gotten dada and hi. Last night when we got home I gave her a treat to give the dog, and I swear she said his name (our dog's name has 2 syllables and an S sound, so I think it's tricky but it's pretty distinctive). She'll bust out some words randomly - in the tub the other night she said water, sometimes when crying she'll start with mama. But not consistently.
She does a "gimme gimme" hand motion for more, and very emphatic hitting things away and then sweeping off her tray when she's all done. Maybe I should start trying some baby sign language - it would be less messy.
She'll have a whole conversation with you - she'll chatter for a bit, then you say something, then she says something. If you ask a question, she'll say yeah. There's just very few words she uses consistently. Our pedi said 10 words that we can understand by 18 months, so we'll see where we get with that.

moutonrouge, I've been trying to really listen and pay attention to the sounds he makes because otherwise it all just sounds like jibberish (well most of it is). I am starting to be able to hear when he is trying to make specific sounds or mimic words so that's fun. I assume these babies know a lot more words than we give them credit for, we just aren't hearing them.

I was reading the very hungry caterpillar and at the end where he turns into a beautiful butterfly, he went “buh buh fuh” like multiple times after I repeated butterfly and H won’t believe me! Of course I couldn’t get him to do it again for H since.

F's first word was mama :-D She says dada, bub (what we call my dad), and lots of babbling. My mom swears she said gigi, but I doubt that one. I maybe heard it once. You win!! I’m still trying to get J to say butterfly. I shan’t give up! He is getting pretty good at saying cat.

For a while she was saying Beh-a (one of our dogs is Bella) and that had me pretty entertained. Mostly she points at things and makes a shocked sound "Auuuuaaii??" lol Does it sound like a seal? That's J's language. Most adults can't pronounce my cat's name so I am not hopeful on that one.

Lots of babbling at 10.5 months. She says "Mama" which she used to start every complaint sound with but now I think she is doing it when she is unhappy because it's me that she wants since she will keep doing it until I come to her (if H gets to her first). She started pointing at everything this week and so we started repeating the word for whatever she is pointing at. We did "baby" and she said something like "buh buh" and then we did it for light and she said "la". She has definitely been more focused on physical developments and walking than on talking.

It's Japanese and starts with a silent T. Is this the cat that is the pirate? Haha yes. She doesn’t wear a patch but she is blind in one eye.
