I can choose between the Medela PISA and the Spectra S2.
Opinions?

I had a PISA with my middle and liked it, but if I can, I'd totally go Spectra this time around.

I got the spectra after asking around. Haven’t used it yet so can’t really say.

I got another PISA, but I would've done Spectra if it was an option.

I had the pisa before, and I'll use it again this time, probably for just at home. I am looking at either getting the Medela sonata or the Spectra (I would prefer the s1 if my insurance will cover it). There is an adapter to use Medela parts with the Spectra which will be great because I have a ton of Medela parts from before.

All the recommendations I've seen have been Spectra this time around so that's what I ordered, even though I will likely have to FF. If I don't use it I'll donate it to a women's shelter.

I was able to get the spectra s1 via insurance but had to pay a small upgrade fee. Like $60 but it also included a hands free bra. It was $35 without the bra.

I just ordered the Spectra S2 courtesy of this thread. Insurance covered it and it'll be end of this week/sometime next week.

This reminded me that I need to call my insurance and inquire about this. I have a PISA from last time, hoping insurance will cover the Spectra this time.

I’m leaning towards one of the Spectras. I have a Medela Freestyle from last time.
I also have a couple of handheld Medela Harmony’s that were super practical once I had an established supply.

Well now you all have me questioning if I want another PISA. I can't order mine until the baby comes but from what I remember of the extensive excel spreadsheet my insurance sent I have basically every option open to me.

Has anyone used or plan to use the kiinde system? I used it last time for frozen storage and when I traveled and had to pump. I tired to use the feeding system a few times but DS was already used to the Medela nipples. Thoughts?

kiri, my main issue with the kiinde system is that it somewhat assuming that you're pumping one feeding per side. I had/have a super overactive letdown on my right side and every single feeding/pumping was both sides. If I start(ed) on my left side, my right boob would completely drain itself anyhow which is...not helpful.

Don't you just have to get the one adapter that goes from the Spectra tubing to the pisa flange and bottle setup? I was able to get the PISA with the bag that fits everything (including the cooler) through my insurance while the Spectra's bag didn't fit everything.

If I start(ed) on my left side, my right boob would completely drain itself anyhow which is...not helpful. I guess I must have pumped into 2 bags, so both sides at once, and then combined the liquid into one before freezing. I probably refrigerated the empty bag and then filled it somehow later on. I forgot about all of the carefully planned logistics of pumping, combining, rules about temperatures, etc... It’s all such a blur. The old bags also came in handy as convenient ice packs as well.

I pumped into bottles and then measured the next day's bottles for daycare, and froze any excess (when I had excess). I could only use the Lansinoh milk storage bags, the store brands always leaked.
I think I might start pumping a little earlier this time to try and build a stash. I need to figure out how to do that without creating an oversupply. If that's even possible.
I was fine nursing and pumping until our garage fridge broke and I lost 200+ ounces of breastmilk. After that I couldn't keep up with the 16 ounces I needed every day for daycare.

kiri, I just always pumped into bottles then combined into one bag. I pumped every 3ish hours so I was somewhat lax about cleaning the bottles between sessions knowing that you can leave breast milk out for a while. When I dropped a pump session, I'd wipe everything down with one of the Medela wipes. apk4, my stash came from whichever feeding was the last of the night because he'd only nurse from one side so I'd go pump the other side after. I started around 6 weeks since I went back at 12 weeks. It also helped that my left side (not my OAL side) was great at over producing by itself. My soul hurts at the thought of 200+ ounces lost. This is reminding me of all the logistics of nursing/pumping/etc. I'm considering doing some supplementing this time so I'm not as stressed about it but then there's the mom guilt that my son never had any formula and was EBF. Then I remind myself that they don't know the difference.

When I pumped at work I eventually started bringing the actual bottles my son used and poured what I pumped into those bottles so they were ready to go the next day for daycare. I used my frozen stash for Monday’s or to make up what I wasn’t able to pump. I ended up with about 200oz i donated once we were done BFing. And then there was the one time a contractor unplugged the extension cord the deep freezer in garage was using and I lost like 100oz of milk and I was so upset.

He was at half formula/half BM at daycare from 6 months until he weaned right before he turned 1. I've actually considered weaning once I go back to work this time just to eliminate the stress that I felt last time about pumping, but it depends on how the baby does. V was really into breastfeeding, and if this baby is the same, I'll suck it up for as long as I can.

I refuse to EP again, so I’m trying to mentally prepare to just transition immediately if things aren’t working in an effort to save some sanity.

So my insurance covers most pumps and I can go through a dme to get one charged to my insurance and not have to pay. Or I can buy one up to $450 and submit a claim for reimbursement. So if it doesn't cover the s1 through a dme, I can just buy it, but I would rather not have to go that route if I don't have to.

If I can BF this time, I’m hoping to not supplement in the beginning and then start supplementing at 6 months +/- and not stress out about pumping 2x at work. Between pumping, working, taking care of others, I felt like I didn’t take care of myself and I want it to be different this time. The main incentive to BF during the winter is to hopefully have stronger resistance to daycare germs lol

I’m not going to do both at every damn feeding this time around. Not happening. If things aren’t working I’m going to straight formula and not looking back.
