DS’ birthday party is from 3:15-4:45 this Saturday. We’re having it at a venue where the kids will have an activity (Lego building) for the first hour and 15 minutes then we’ll have access to a party room for the last half hour.
We can bring in outside food and will definitely have a cake. I was thinking of ordering a couple of pizzas but I’m wondering if it’s really necessary.
What you you expect foodwise for a party with that timeframe? TIA.

I think trying to do pizza and cake in a 1/2 hour might be tight. I wouldn't expect a full meal at that time, but it is getting close to dinner. Can you do the cake part first?

I would just do cake at that time of day.

Yeah, I thought it seemed like too much. I just don’t want to not have enough food, you know? And good idea about cake first - I’ll have to ask the venue!

Every party we go to has pizza no matter the time of day. I still don’t think it’s necessary.

I would do snacks and cake.
Like bananas and cuties, maybe some cheddar bunnies snack packs, and juice or milk.

I would not be expecting my kid to get more than cake at that time of day.

I've never been to a party without food no matter the time, but I think that if you put on the invitation that cake will be served only somehow it would be fine although people really shouldn't assume anyway

Also, OP, you said the party is 3:15 to 4:45 which is an hour and a half, but if they do an activity for an hour and 15 and then have a half hour in the party room that's an hour and 45 minutes. It's probably a typo but my brain is stuck on it. Which is right?

I would do maybe a fruit tray and some chips.
However, at that time of day, I would not expect anything besides cake if I were a guest.

Just cake at that time. I would not expect anything more than cake and a drink if my child attended.

I wouldn't expect more than cake/cake & ice cream. But, if you'd like more, I'd just do bowls of chips and pretzels or chex mix or something.

If they were in an area where they had food accessible the whole time, then I'd have snacks (but would not expect them).
For just 30 minutes? Nah.

I've never been to a party without pizza or some kind of meal and I would never host a party without a meal. Personally, I wouldn't care, but I would worry people would be offended in our circle since it's the norm.

Cake won’t take 30 minutes. If you aren’t planning on having other food to eat, have additional activities planned. I learned that the hard way.

That 30 minutes includes getting them in the room, getting them to sit down and reasonably shut their mouths long enough to listen, singing, pictures, cutting the cake, handing it out, cleaning up plates, presents (optional), and handing out goodie bags (optional), getting their shit and getting them out of the room.

I would do snacks and cake. Like bananas and cuties, maybe some cheddar bunnies snack packs, and juice or milk. Maybe I’ll grab a fruit and cheese platter. That’s easy enough to grab and go (and help balance the sugar high from the cake a bit)!

Plus also people leave after that. So if it takes 20 minutes, they’ll just go home.
