I know there was a discussion buried in a randoms thread earlier this week, but I’m about 75% convinced I need a Peloton and I have questions.
Where is it in your house? The most logical place in our house is to make room in our bedroom, but I feel like I’ll hate looking at it the rest of the day. How much room does it take up? How hard would it be to move?
I know this is person specific, but how often do you use it? Is it your only work out or what other workouts do you do?
How much variety is there in the classes both in style and difficulty? Pre baby I loved flywheel, are the classes similar?
Anything else I should know?

I have one and love it. It’s in my home office. I use it 1-4x a week depending on what I have going on. There’s lots of versatility when it comes to class styles/length of time/music/instructors. I’m beer bored! There are lots of FB groups too dedicated to Peloton so I love the whole community aspect!

HilarityEnsued, Do you still feel like the bike is worth it now that you use it less?

We have a one story house, no basement. We put ours in our living room, in the corner by the giant window/door. It doesn't obstruct anything, and I don't necessarily like having it in a gathering spot, but it is really the only place it works. Our living room is quite large. I don't love the location, but I don't hate it either.
I love the Peloton. Lately it is my only workout. We have a Y membership but we are getting rid of it, at least while I am nursing/pumping and while DD2 is very small; it is so hard to get out of the house to work out. I feel like I'm still getting a full body workout since there are arms sections, plus they have beyond the ride workouts you can do (I haven't tried them but I have heard they are good).
I use it 4-5 times/week and I vary between as short as 20 minute workouts up to 75 minutes (which I did today, for the first time). It is nice to be able to just wake up early and work out with the kids still sleeping, or fit in a quick workout after bedtime.
I was doing BBM and while I did like it, I found the peloton classes more fun and I was more motivated to do them, so I stopped doing BBM (though I still try to get strength workouts in).
Tl;Dr I love mine so much.

Oh and there is a ton of variety in style, difficulty (you can make it as hard as you want to, but there are also beginner classes), music type, etc.

I like mine. I don’t think anything compares to an actual in-studio class. But it’s great to hop on a bike when you have a spare 30 minutes. It’s a good workout. I use it as a supplemental workout. I do OrangeTheory most days and I Peloton on days I can’t get to OTF or in addition to OTF, about 1-3x a week.
It’s in a corner of my guest room. It has a pretty small footprint, the size of a yoga mat. Once the gym in my basement is done, it will go down there. The sales guy at Peloton said two strong adults should be able to carry it down a couple of flights of stairs. That’s a future Cher problem.

I am obsessed, it's the only thing that works with my schedule. I've had it since the week before Christmas and ride about 5x per week, I just started doing 2 rides a day and I'm hoping to stick with that when I can.
The variety is great, there are new classes added daily to the on demand library so it's endless. I have certain instructors I like best, but I try and mix it up and take different classes.
Mine is in my bonus room, which isn't used for anything else, it also holds my elliptical which I haven't been on since I got the bike. I would not want to move it ever. I don't think it takes up a ton of room, but I guess it depends on your space.

I thought of another question, what accessories do you think are necessary? Are there a lot of add ons when you buy it or is it pretty close to the list price+tax?

I thought of another question, what accessories do you think are necessary? Are there a lot of add ons when you buy it or is it pretty close to the list price+tax? If you don't already have spin shoes, you definitely need those plus the correct type of cleat. I already had a pair of spin shoes, but I had to buy the correct cleats (they were pretty cheap on amazon). Fortunately my shoes were able to use either one. Weights are good to have, but you don't need the peloton brand ones. My weights from target fit into the holder. Headphones are handy if you need to work out in a space where other people might be bothered by the noise (or you may be distracted). A lot of people like having a heart rate monitor. I have a Fitbit which syncs to the Peloton app, so that is really nice. The only accessory I would say you NEED is the shoes/cleats.

The shipping was a hefty fee, and you have to buy a year subscription with purchase, so keep that in mind. I do think they offer 0% financing.

I thought of another question, what accessories do you think are necessary? Are there a lot of add ons when you buy it or is it pretty close to the list price+tax? I got the works accessory pack. I think I use everything but the headphones, although I may use them down the line. I prepaid classes for 2 years because I got a few months free by doing that. With that, the accessories, tax, delivery, it was almost $2k more, in addition to the price of the bike. That was the biggest surprise to me. I had a referral code that took $100 off, but even so, it definitely added up.

I got the works pack and use everything. I really like having the HR monitor, I didn't use it for a while but having an accurate calorie burn is motivating to me. But you could use another brand. A lot of people use the scorsche brand.
The only thing you really need though are shoes. The peloton shoes are pretty famous for squeaking after a couple of rides, this happened to me and I called customer service and they sent new cleats, I've had no problems since. A lot of people prefer using spd cleated shoes and just switch out the pedals, so that's an option too if you already have spd shoes.

Somewhat related, I just saw they’re releasing a peloton treadmill this fall I looked into getting on the waitlist when I bought my bike. It’s about $4k just for the treadmill, before you pay for anything else. It’s going to be like OTF classes. I think, for me, I would prefer an actual class environment for that. Plus there are apps that do OTF style classes on the treadmill.

It’s pretty much identical to Barry’s or Ripped, except you use a HR monitor. I like OTF because it’s a great 1hour workout and an unlimited pass is significantly less than any of the other Bootcamp’s around me. So if the time doesn’t work, see if there are other circuit classes around you. Or do the Studio app, lol.

Unfortunately with my H’s travel schedule I’m pretty much stuck with my gym and their childcare until the baby starts her little preschool in the fall. On the up side, I’m totally using all of his travel on the checklist of reasons I need a peloton

Hi, mostly lurker here but I’ve been using the Studio app for a few months and I’m absolutely obsessed with it. It sounds a lot like the Peloton programs - there are three levels, 20/30/45 minute workouts, and a variety of themes (both by music and workout type). I’ve been running regularly for years but this app has really made a difference in my speed and endurance. If anyone has any questions, feel free to ask.
And I’m not associated with them, I’m just a groupie. 😊

I signed up through FB so I didn't have this issue but I just googled and this seems to be a common complaint. I will say that they are relatively new and they do seem to be working on some of the bugs, so it’s possible they’ll change this at some point. I’m sorry!

I cannot imagine how the concept of the cycling translates into the treadmill situation. For the price there is no way I could justify that. Rode my Peloton today. Did my favorite Emma class. Which one is your fave?

It's one I bookmarked all the way back in January. I will look it up tomorrow. It just has a great Playlist and it's an intense ride but not awful. Sweet! I liked the class I took of hers. I usually go with Cody and Dennis. But all the instructors are great.
