Where would you put the emphasis? In my native language, this name is pronounced like the first part of Stephanie, but I think here the emphasis would normally fall on the A? Is there any spelling to prevent that.
Do you like this name?
More generally, boy names are so much tougher than girl names for me, sigh.

I have only known one person with this name and spelling (in the US). It was pronounced like you said, like Stephanie without the ie.
I know another person who pronounces their name that way but he spells it ‘Stephen’. Of course, he constantly has people pronouncing it ‘Steven’.

Thank you both charlotte & @kelltothekell,. I am so torn: I love the name, but I do want to avoid the constant correction of pronunciation and/or spelling. We are continuing to plow through names that sounds good in English, German and the Slavic languages. Most are so popular, like Alexander (which I do like, btw). If you have any, send them my way.

Emphasis on the first part for me. Like STEF-in. I don't care for it.

I would say STE-fan too. FWIW, unless you pick a super common name, people will probably mispronounce it. I have a common name and people still say it wrong all the time. Or invent new names for me. So I say name him what you like without thinking about that, because it's going to happen unless you name him John, or something along those lines.

I would pronounce it "STEFF-en", but I could see how people would read it as Stef-AHN. I know a lot of Europeans, so that's probably why. People are pretty used to learning pronunciations these days, especially with all the made up names people use, I don't think it's terrible to name your kid something that can be pronounced multiple ways. I didn't think my daughter's name was easy to mispronounce (Ce.cily), but she gets called Sicily all the time.

I would pronounce it "STEFF-en", but I could see how people would read it as Stef-AHN. When I first see it written, my mind instantly reads it as the 2nd way. Yet, the only person I've ever met with that name went by the 1st way.

If I see a name I first recognize as German I end up pronouncing it that way. SHTE-fan
Love, but don't love how it carries over to English.

I have a list a mile long... somewhere... for English/German/French... from before we knew DD was a girl.
We have a Frederick.
Do you like hockey? Try going through some NHL rosters.

My H has a family member who spells his name this way. It's pronounced like Stephanie without the "ie". His mom thought spelling it that way would eliminate the concern of pronunciation. (Vs Stephan). Lol no.

Ugh, I don't even know about this name any longer. Maybe this baby will just be nameless.

My favorite German-ish boy names: Oskar Felix Jacob/Jakob Luca/Luka/Lukas Leon Augustine/August Ansel Hugh/Hugo
Not sure any of those are your style.
For Slavic names (and throwing in some Russian because I'm not sure where the line falls?) Nikolai/Nicholai Dmitri Anton Ivan Milo/Milos

We have talked about Nico lately, it's an option.
